- Do not exceed 1.425v core voltage, doing so could limit lifespan of the CPU
- Aim to keep temperatures below 70c underload if at all possible
- Do not overclock with BCLK, again doing so could limit lifespan of the CPU
- Recommended memory voltage is 1.50v, so make sure to run your memory at 1.50v, higher than 1.60v could limit lifespan of the CPU
- These recommendations come from OcUK and Intel, your warranty is un-affected but we highly recommend you adhere to the above to make sure your CPU lifespan is un-affected
- All Sandybridge CPU's worldwide should be run at the above or lower voltages, no higher!

Great chip even now

Bought this at launch, and I've had it at 4.2GHz since then (It went higher to 4.6GHz, but I figured I'd leave some headroom since I didn't need any more performance). Runs surprisingly cool on air, and it's just great. It's a shame it hasn't dropped in price with the ivybridge i5 being a batter deal now, but it's still a great chip.

Brilliant bar the fan

Absolutely brilliant processor this and the onboard graphics isnt bad either. No need to overclock for my needs (but am going to try anyway!). Only annoyance was the fan that was very noisy even at idle for some reason.

Great chip

this is a great cpu got this running @ 4.5 on a Asus P8Z68 DELUXE GEN3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) with 16 gig of Corsair Vengeance Blue DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz cooled by a Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H70 Liquid CPU Cooler temps do not go over 59c and it idles at 35c well happy with it got all bits from overclockers accept the water cooler as they stoped selling this

4.5 ghz

first day i assembled my machine i clocked it to 4.5 ghz w minor voltage correction and it has been running like that for around 3 to 4 months and the system has never crashed. going from a laptop 2.2 ghz dual core T7500 processor the difference is mindblowing.

Incredible upgrade

This is easily the best value CPU on the market- within 2 minutes I had it running at 4.8GHz on just 1.325 volts, only hit 61 degrees max after several hours of Battlefield 3 on air cooling so it has plenty of scope left, not that you'll need it!

It's a must have for any serious gaming rig. Buy it. Now.

Superb CPU

4.6Ghz with very little effort.
Munches through applications & games. What more do you want?

Gareth 2011-11-19

Excellent CPU

May not be the cheapest kid on the block, but this CPU sure is willing to go A and B the C of D.

Overclocking is simple, and awesome. Happily hops up to a 45x turbo multi with very modest voltages, and retains speedstep for cool idling. 47x also fine, but runs a bit warm. Wouldn't be totally shocked if a 1.4 vcore took it to 50x, but that'll need much better cooling and I won't be trying it!

Has my PC booting notably faster than my previoius Phenom II quad, and turns out a visible Photoshop and Paint Tool SAI performance improvement (even simple things like rotating or mirroring). For reasons unknown, my Wacom tablet draws more smoothly with it, too...

Games; WoW is no longer CPU bottlenecked, BF3 frankly wasn't on a Phenom II, but now tends to load about 60% on all cores and "feels" smoother. Neither game takes this CPU over 65 degrees with an old Zalman 9700 on low fan speed. Prime temps about 75.

Crazy good technology :)

Great Overclocker

Overclocked to 4.60GHz by OCUK. Runs everything I chuck at it, no problems at all.

Ifan 2011-09-26

No Brainer

Gaming, multi-tasking this cpu does it with ease! Finally playing Black Ops at 100fps with help from gtx460. Get it you won't regret!

Ian 2011-08-25

A Beast.

This processor cannot be rated highly enough. It laughs at everything you tell it to do. Total War: Shogun 2, The Witcher 2 and beyond; you name it, it will have no trouble giving you top notch speed and stability. Can be overclocked easily to 4.5Ghz on air gaining further performance.

Joe 2011-08-20

Really good for the price. Highly recommend it.

Anil 2011-08-06

Good chip

I'm a gamer and it plays everything I through at it including GTA IV at 60 FPS min with just a small overclock on a 580 so all in all not too bad a chip. Should last fairly well gonna get the Ivybridge next though so as to give a bit of longevity to my expensive mainboard.

Paul 2011-07-04

Quality CPU

Great CPU.

Runs cool with a decent HSF and easy OC to 4.2GHz by just changing the default turbo boost ratios from 37/36/35/34 to 42/42/42/42 and everything else on AUTO. CPU voltage never goes over 1.266v.

brilliant overclock

i love this cpu i have it overclocked to 4.8ghz stable using intel burn in test, really good speeds and it also boosted my fps in blackops from 150 ish to 250 -350 easy well worth buying, make sure you buy a hidh quality mobo to give with this sweet little chip

matthew brough 2011-05-24

Amazingly Fast

This processor is definately worth buying, I have upgraded from a Q9300 2.5Ghz and can definately tell the difference in speed, excellent for overclocking as well.

Daniel Parker 2011-05-12

Bought this for a build for a friend who was wanting a machine to zip through his Photoshop projects.

This chip absolutely flies even without overclocking. I was also very impressed by how quiet it is with the stock cooler.

The onboard gfx are more than enough to run a full HD screen. In fact, it ran MW2 at 60-70 fps (1280x1024 minimum settings) and CSS at 120-200 fps (again, 1280x1024 minimum settings, but on a full 32 man server). Once I plugged in my GTX 460 I got 250-950 fps on full settings (seriously, I have posted screen shots on UKCS forums).

In summary, an outstanding chip. I can't believe the performance for

PC Plum 2011-05-04

Super Fast

Upgraded from amd 4890 quad core and what can i say its super fast easy to overclock and smooth.

New motherboard and bios take a bit of getting used to but really easy to use and worth every penny.

Anthony 2011-05-03

really worthwhile upgrade

wow, as others have said, after an overclocked q6600 at 3.6ghz even at stock this is half as fast again and with an easy 4.5ghz overclock its twice as fast. I reused my watercooling loop which struggled with the old q6600, with this cpu the temp maxes out 29 celcius with prime 95 running!! and idles at 16!!, a half decent
air cooler will easily do on this even overclocked!!!.
one thing to note, installing it in the asus mobo, the cpu holder arm really takes some efort to close over the chip (i was waiting for the cracking noise!) but this appears normal so have faith!
A great upgrade from q6600.

Warbo 2011-02-03

Brought to replace a decent overclocked Q6600 system the i5 2500k has not disappointed. Even at stock this processor was able to beat the Q6600 (@3.6ghz) in benchmarks at much lower temperatures. Looking forward to see the overclocking potential of the i5 2500k. A note to anyone looking to buy a new processor and struggling to decide to go 2600k or 2500k, save yourself the money and buy a decent mobo or something, as the 2600k will only do better in benchmarks and processor intensive applications like CAD or photoshop.

Huw Sharpe 2011-01-22

Worth IT

Great Chip, Overclocked mine to 4.9ghz with a H50 & Asus P8P67

Mike R 2011-01-12

The 2500K is an amazing chip, I'm sure you've all read the reviews - but yes, it really is that good. It stamps over my old Q6600. One of the largest upgrades I've ever done.

Paul 2011-01-11

Finally Worth The Upgrade

Been waiting for something like this to come along, the 760's wasnt worth the money for the performance gain from the E8400.

This is a beast and well worth the money.
