Powerful CPU

Even though this generation CPU is getting along, it's still powerful as hell!
Supports anything, and only a few secs behind all the newer CPUs and keeps nice temps.
4.2Ghz stable for 6 months, 4Ghz prior for a year.

ridiculous power! lol

Bought one of these to go with an Asus p6x58d-e, 12gb corsair dominator 1600mhz ram and evga gtx 570 HD. First impressions upon stock clocks was wow!! It's fast as you like!! I then decided to tinker with overclocking and have currently got it sat at 4.2ghz @ 200bclk, 22x multiplier and 1.34v. Runs stable and max temps I've reached was 71c. High.. yes. But only because I'm using a single 120mm radiator and xspc bay reservoir. I will be installing a new watercooled loop next month so temps will be considerably lower :D overall a superb chip and superb service from overclockers again! 5/5

MunKy 2011-05-09

super saiyan

This thing is fast... so fast in fact, that when I only had 2GB of decent ram in it still runs crysis 2 and DOW 2 retribution on FULL graphics (I modded Crysis 2 with the graphics mod to boost them past the options you normally get)
Im sure the ATI 5770HD helped, but without the processor being this quick, there is no GPU on earth that can handle high end games with even a decent processor. If you want super fast lurve at a good price, buy this.

top quality

Coming from a Q6700 , noticed speed straight away just from installing windows,20 mins it took me.
Paired with a Asus rampage 2 extreme it flies @ stock , imagine with overclock that my motherboard recomends me to 4.00ghz.
Once again thanks ocuk for great delivery service.

first class

Have had this Proc with a Asus P6X58D-E motherboard and Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MH for just over a week now & it

A proper Einstein

I think, with this, my rig has gotten to the point where the only thing slowing down my workflow is me. I'm going to be spending a lot less money on teabags as well, since rendering before was a perfect time to stick the kettle on. But why are you reading this review? The fact all the other reviews are 5-stars across the board means your choice should have been made for you.

Bought over the counter today.
Paired with ASUS Sabertooth and TT FRIO HSF and 2000mhz C8 DominatorGT.

Wanted 4Ghz overclock which was easy as setting the profile from the ram and ramping up the 'fsb' to 182. started at 1.2VCore (well under limits) and am just starting the slow process of finding the lowest stable VCORE!
Already impressed at its overclocking though :)
Could go higher but i dont personally have a need atm.

Very fast CPU

I hadn't upgraded for a while and this actually replaced an AMD 4800+ which I thought was still fairly quick but OMG this is unbelievably quicker and you effectively get 8 cores with the hyperthreading. It just laughs at everything you throw at it.

Adam 2010-12-24

Got this and installed it into my GA-X58A-UD3R along with a Noctua U12P-SE2 heatsink.

An upgrade from an AMD Athlon x2 5400 so this was obviously an insane boost in performance. What more can I say? After comparing it with other processors - I picked this over the rest of the competition due to the performance in games but also because it seemed to beat AMD processors outside of the gaming bracket. I'm looking to do a lot of video editing and recording on my new machine and this processor seems top notch.

yes impressive, fast service from oc, as normal. running with 4870 has lifted my card power as well. i never OC my pc. compaired to my old cpu q66 i got 4000 bench more with ocz ram 1600=2000. thumbs up. its effortlessly powerfull

TimDrake 2010-12-18

I got his 11/2010

Running at standard.
First thing I did was move 200 Gig of data from one disk to another at the same time loading Fallout NV. I minimized FONV and it SNAPS to desktop. Then I loaded Batman AA and minimized and it SNAPS to desktop so I could load COD BOPS load a saved game and minimized, it SNAPPED to desktop.
Cntrl Alt Delete..your chip is is at 50% load!
I had no idea how powerful this chip was when I brought it.
That'll do pig.

so far so good

upgraded this from a phenom ii x2 550, ULed to x3 and OCed to 3.8ghz, comparing the OCed phenom to the i7 950(at stock speed), i didnt really feel the i7 is significantly superior, bar using photoshop and proengineer. oh, and black ops! having said that, i did buy the i7 for its OCing ability which i have yet to try out fully. i did do a quick auto OC that came with the r3e board to 3.7ghz, and superpi mod 1m went from 19.2s(phenom x3 @3.8) to 10.3s, pretty impressive. think i will settle this little beast to 4ghz when i have the time over xmas, will post a another review here then regarding the OCing ability.

one thing that i didnt quite like about this i7 is that it runs a little hot, i like my chip to run nice and cool at idle, my old phenom @ 3.8 was about 25 on air. this i7 idles at about 38 on all cores(thermaltake frio, push pull, minimum speed), HT enabled. anyhow, max load on intel burn test extreme was about 57, so i guess load temp is pretty respectable tho!

I sold my X6 1055t and decided to go with this baby and i wasnt wrong. I see a huge improvement in everything i do form install windows to just browsing and opening applications.

This bad boy will last me for another 5 years.

i7 950, Asus Sabertooth x58, Crucial 6GB 1600, XFX 5870, Prolimatech Mega, x64 Win7

Bought this tuesday, arrived wednesday, installed wednesday night, unbelievable improvement over my core2duo e6750! was so worth the upgrade, long time waiting!!

was stuck between this and the amd 1090T... but the triple channel memory on the core i7 sold it to me.

get it now!!

Piotrek kosq 2010-12-08

950 Stock

I don't need to overclock this CPU, never really seen it loaded above 40% during stuff what i usually do - lots of gaming. Although there is a nice Prolimatech rev B paired with Apache Fan cooling it - which gives good temps for future overclocking.

I am verry happy with this cpu. My max temps punishing cpu with Prime95 for long time is 57C on each core. Is it good, You tell :)

Dan 2010-12-03

had this chip a while now and wow it's the best price to performance chip you can buy
i put this beast in a sabertooth board with dominator gt's and hit 4.5ghz, temps a little high so backed it down to 4.3ghz and this chip smashed everything you can think to throw at it, seriously if you are looking for a fast chip look no further you deninatly won't be dissaponted

i'd give it 10/10 if i could

Great speeds: good price

I bought this processor as it was the best I could afford. I am very glad I chose the i7 over another AMD. It is lightning fast and, while I haven't overclocked it yet, I am sure that it will be a whiz.

Games play quickly and everything loads quickly.

Gazman 2010-11-17

Buy It Now

I was hesitant to go down the I7 route after considering replacing a core 2 dou e8500 with a 775 socket quadcore, how ever i took the plunge a got it, omg frame rates in games are over dbl with max settings and this thing is a beast...get it...get it now

Assad 2010-11-11

Fantastic, Fast and Awsome!

awsome processor, easily overclockable, can't fault it and excellent service from OclUK.

Great Performance i7

Primary use of my PC is for gaming and watching/editting videos.

Using this with a Coolermaster Hyper 212+ and Arctic Silver Thermal Paste, according to the program "SpeedFan", my computer sits at:-
Idle: 24-27'Celsius
Stressed (Video Rendering 50 minutes): 52-56'Celsius

Generally though, with just using this for World of Warcraft and watching Series/Movies, the CPU will hover around 32-36'Celsius.

This is my 1st i7 & I have to say i'm amazed with the performance leap over my previous q6600 @ 3.2Ghz. Easily O/clocked to 4Ghz & at 1.18V running very cool with the Eco ALC 240 w/cooler. Hottest core hit 50c whilst gaming, Idle's about 38c at ambient 21c. Very impressive CPU and excellent service as usual from Overclockers Thx.

JohnM 2010-10-07

Good Buy

Does what it says on the tin.

Initial OC (30%) to 190MHz x 21 4GHz
1.25v Idle 38c, Small FFT 80c (New thermal paste)

Corsair Dominator GT 6GB running at 8-9-8-24 1.25v 1.6v 1523MHz

Asus Rampage III Gene

Prime stable, Small FFT 1 hour test.

Sol 2010-10-06

This is my first i7 and i have to say its sweet, it cant be beat on price for the power you get, (its pratically the same price as the 930). Ive got it running at 4ghz easily and playing crysis maxed out at 1920x1200 its using around 15-30 percent of the cpu :0

Jamie 2010-10-04

Great Stock Speeds

Being somebody who's always reluctant to overclock, I was happy to pay a few pounds more for the increased stock speed of this processor, over the 930. Can't fault it so far, excellent performance, at a reasonable price especially for those wary of pushing their system too hard.

Karl 2010-10-01

Originally I planned on buying the i7 920, but Intel had stopped making them by the time I came to buy.
I thought about getting the 930, but when I saw the 950, the jump in speed I thought was worth the extra money and it was.
This is a great processor, using it with a GTX 480 at stock speeds, the performance gain over my old Q6600 was incredible, jumping from 30FPS to 60FPS in some cases. It's clear that the older quad-cores are not as up to the task as they used to be.
Don't be put off by the price, it's well worth the money and very future proof thanks to the easy and stable OC.

Lock and Loaded!

First of all id like to say topmarks to the AMD Athlon 64 Dual as its been rocksteady for almost 6years. never had a single issue since the day i dropped it in.

theres not much i can say about the i7 that you havent heard already, but i will say this, GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, IM COMING TO GET YOU! =)

Simon 2010-09-25

Great Processor

This is my first i7. I was amazed at how easy it was to get it running stable at 4ghz + compared to processors I have used in the past like P4, Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad this was a breeze and paired with the Corsair H70 runs at 38c idle at 4ghz in my case (CM Stacker). I paired this with Asus P6X58D-E and OCZ Reaper 6GB module.

Jeremy 2010-09-21

Oh My God

An amazing processor for the money. This cannot be beaten o price/performance. Another fabulous chip from intel
