Product information: i7-5820K 3.30GHz (Haswell-E) Socket LGA2011-V3 Processor - Retail (BX80648I75820K)

Intel's latest Haswell-E 2011-v3 processors is the most powerful desktop gaming processor you can get, perfect for gamers, video encoders and professional audio. With a whopping 6 cores which means 12 threads with hyperthreading technology the power on tap is unlimited. The 5820k is also Intel's lowest ever priced 6 core, 12 threaded CPU ever, making such power more affordable.

As always Overclockers UK have done some overclock testing and the results are very impressive with speeds of over 4.5GHz being achieved which for an 6/12 processor is very impressive. We are recommending custom water-cooling loops for people wanting to overclock beyond 4GHz to keep things cool and OcUK has the largest range of in stock DDR4 memory from Avexir, Crucial, Corsair and G.Skill.

Just upgraded from a q6600 and wished I did it earlier. I have this on a Asus Sabertooth X99, using a Samsung SM951 and now my is very very fast. Boots Win 10 aprrox. 20 seconds. No lag now when I open applications and video/music editing brilliant.

Quick, but potentially limiting

This CPU is pretty fast, everything opens up instantly - and I can run quite a few VM's.

However there was one thing that has given me a bit of grief over the last few days. I have the EVGA X99 FTW mobo and it can support up to 128GB of RAM. I have two quad-channel kits of 32GB DDR4 2400MHz. However when installing that amount - the board would not boot. When lowered to 32GB, it booted fine.

After much messing about - and emails pinging back and forth to EVGA support about trying this and that - I checked the CPU specs on Intel ARK - and the i7 CPU's (even the extreme) can only support a max of 64GB - and this is single channel (I have 2 kits of 4x 8GB Quad Channel DDR4 2400Mhz).

To get the system booted - I had to slow the RAM down in the XMP profile to 2133MHz - otherwise it would either fail to boot, or only register some of the RAM (for example 48GB, or 32GB when all 64GB was installed).

If like me - you need this amount of RAM (or more) go for the Xeons instead.

I bought this CPU with the MSI SLI PLUS bundle and it is fantastic, i upgraded from a 8350 here from overclockers and its night and day's difference in everything.

I do thing this is the best CPU of the range, still a bit expensive but i think its worth the cost.

Easy to over clock mine is at 4.4ghz using 1.275volts.

It's Big & It's Clever

The first thing you notice (coming from a 2600K) is the size of the's huge. It doesn't come with a cooler (let's face it Intel stock coolers weren't the best anyway) I got mine coupled with a Corsair H105, at stock it doesn't go over 35'c. Benchmarked at stock (3.3Ghz) it gave a score of over 31000 in 3DMark06 which is close to my 2600K running at 4.5Ghz!
With the latest BIOS update in my EVGA mATX X99 it was simply a case of change multiplier to get 3000Mhz RAM and 4.0Ghz CPU, temps only rose to 41'c!
Fantastic CPU...highly recommened for the price

Awesome CPU!

There is very little doubt that this is the Haswell-E CPU with the best price to performance ratio of the three currently available. Though this "only" has 28 PCI-Express lanes compared to 40 of the other two, this does not pose a problem in 99% of the cases. If you were to use a PCI-Express SSD coupled with say, three high-performance graphics cards, there would perhaps be a need for the 40 lanes. However, this CPU can run three graphics cards in SLI with no real-life drop in performance above the 40 lane CPUs (as PCI-Express x16 and x8 are "the same" with today's graphics cards and games).

The overclockability of this CPU should match that of the 5930K's, given that both are 6 core (within the usual "silicon lottery" margin of error). I have this currently overclocked to 4.375GHz with 1.29V on an Asus Rampage V Extreme motherboard. This is with the DDR4 RAM running at 3000MHz with 1.35V.

Overall I recommend this CPU to anyone not wanting to go for four graphics cards or three graphics cards and a PCI-Express SSD, due to the 28 PCI-Express lane limitation. Other than that, I would save the money over the 5930K CPU.
