GeForce GTX 970 EX OC "Black Edition" 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (97NQH6DNB4TX)

Virtual Reality is upon us with the likes of Oculus Rift already available and HTC Vive coming very soon. Valve have released a SteamVR benchmark which will test your system for VR Readiness, we advice customers to run this benchmark as the minimum specification to be VR Ready is a GTX 970 from camp NVIDIA. VR is a game changer for games such as Elite Dangerous, Portal 3, Flight simulator, Project cars and who knows the elusive Half Life 3 may make an appearance from Valve as being VR optimised, lets keep our fingers crossed.

Maxwell is the most advanced GPU architecture ever made, designed to be the engine of next generation gaming. Inspired by light, it was designed to solve some of the most complex lighting and graphics challenges in visual computing. For the first time, gaming GPU's can dynamically render indirect light using the new VXGI (Voxel Global Illumination technology). Scenes are significantly more lifelike as light interacts more realistically in the game environment.

The GTX 980 is the worlds fastest GPU and the GTX 970 offers the most advanced performance in its class. Each delivers 2x the performance of previous-generation card, bringing new gaming experiences to virtual reality, and ultra resolution 4k displays.

Enable the detail of 4k monitors, on a 1080P display. DSR produces smoother images by rendering a game at a high resolution, then downscaling it to the native resolution of the display using advanced filtering.

GeForce GTX 980 and 970 cards support tear-free, super-fast NVIDIA G-Sync monitor display technology including 4k. Together, these technologies provide the most immersive and competitive gaming experiences possible.

Get VR Ready with GeForce® GTX.
GeForce® GTX graphics cards provide a powerful next-generation platform for the ultimate immersive virtual reality experience. Immersive VR requires seven times the graphics processing power of traditional 3D apps and games. NVIDIA's unique set of features-such as multi-res shading-mean you get the right level of performance, image quality, and latency to ensure your VR experience is nothing short of amazing.

Powerful card

This 970 is amazingly powerful and it hasn't failed to play all my games at max settings at a steady frame rate of around 50fps. Even batman arkham knight doesn't stutter with this. The build quality feels very very solid and well made.

My card is branded as Galax, bought before they were bought by kfa2, and after just one year my card has decided to die, strangely stopping the whole pc turning on, which it did on two different PCs thankfully I've been able to get in touch with kfa2 and within 30 minutes they'd approved the RMA and its currently in Cardiff, hopefully waiting to be replaced. So the verdict I'd like to give is its a very powerful card which is well worth the money and hopefully the manufacturers customer service will be both quick and brilliant should things go wrong.

Perfect for 1080p

This was the final piece to finish my build, very happy with the purchase, certianly the best 970 you can buy at this price point (£259 at time of purchase) and possibly THE best 970 available.

- No coil wine at all using 550w Seasonic 80+ Gold PSU
- High build quality and includes fitted backplate
- Not quite silent but VERY quiet even under full load (you can change the fan profile if you wish to make it silent)
- Never goes over 60°C with stock settings
- Boosts at almost 1400Mhz and never throttles at stock settings
- Inlcudes a free game, saved me £50 as I was going to purchase Rainbow Six: Siege regardless

Also, Overclockers customer service was excellent, they answered a question I had before I ordered and delivery via DPD was flawless

review review

i bought this card last week, runs all games that i have including bf4 maxed out. No noise at all and i would
Recommend this card for the price its a bargain,.

Bad Capacitor Whine

Unfortunately the card arrived and had horrible amounts of capacitor whine, after testing a few games out the card was certainly powerful and runs new games well but it screams as if it's in pain at the same time. I have had to RMA the card as I can't deal with noisey squeal when the rest of my PC is quiet.

Better than you'd think.

I already owned the MSI gaming 970 and needed another. The coil whine farse has put off many but let's see it for how it is. This card I just received on the 19 Jan 2015 has no coil whine, silent as you like and build extremely well and overclocks like a beast besting my MSi card easily in clockability. I wouldn't hesitate a second on purchasing this card again. It really is as good as it gets and us alot slimmer build design than most of the others with exception to the mini version with one fan. Get one today.

good good card

Bought last week, runs all games maxed out. No noise.
Recommend this card!

Simply amazing...

Moved from a MSI r9 290 purely because of the heat and noise (comparable to a helicopter) it churned out in my corsair 250D. And wow what a difference this card has made, cannot hear it at all and keeps cool under load. The only downside is the 2yr warranty, especially when similarly priced rivals offer 3yrs or more; hence the 4 Stars. Overall would recommend to anyone.

Nice Card

Its a nice card, its runs quite and temps reach ~60Degrees. Performance is also very good. However it arrived with a screw missing. I would have expected a higher level of quality control for this type of product especially considering it was on the outside cover. But it works well otherwise.

Fast, but not as quiet as hoped

As always, fantastic service from OcUK. It's a decent enough card and appears well made. Fit's my Alienware system easily and needed a 6- and 8-pin PCI-E connector. BF4 runs smoothly at High or Ultra on a 27" monitor.
My only quibble is that it's not a quiet as the Asus Radeon R9 280X it replaced ....

Not disappointed at all

I have a 4+ year old custom built pc supporting pci express 2 instead of version 3 (socket 1366). Decided to upgrade the graphics to see if I can squeeze a couple more years before upgrading motherboard and cpu. This replaced my ageing radeon 5770 so I can really tell the difference.

First impressions.... long, well built and feels sturdy. I had to move a couple of disks to make room for it, but installation couldn't have been easier. (the only remark I have is that the cd provided, doesn't come with the actual drivers, I had to download those).

I haven't had much chance to play with it, but I can say the card is silent. the second fan seemed to be stopped under normal usage, and only starts when you launch a game.

I was a bit apprehensive about this purchase, would my psu handle it, how well with it work with older pci express motherboars? Now I can say:
"I am really happy with this purchase."

Great card, less free games

So basically made the jump from a AMD HD7870 which was pretty good and lasted me a long time. Before this I would never spend more than

Great card and all

But thanks for the haribos.

This thing Is a steal for the price we have it in a micro AT build and this runs far cry 4 on the full Nvidea settings running with no stuttering

Very Impressed

One of the faster 970's out there - 60 degrees C under load, cant hear any coil wine, nice and sturdy with backplate, and (i think) metal fan housing

There is a 26 page 5/5 review of the card here: http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/galax-geforce-gtx-970-exoc-review,1.html

Around 270/275mm long, was originally looking at the Gigabyte but at 300mm long to big for my case

It has 1 x 6 pin and 1 x 8 pin PCIe power requirement, cables are included to convert molex to a 6 and 8 pin PCIe power cable, so your power supply doesnt need to have these already, but note that each cable needs 2 molex's each, so 4 in total

Also in the box is a vga/dvi converter. Only downside appears to be 2 year warantee rather than 3

Coupled with an i7 4790, this card replaces a reference MSI gtx 760, as that setup didnt play The new Dragon Age very nicely. Its a power needy game!. But with this card installed Geforce Experience optimised this DAI to every setting on ultra except for MSAA x2 instead of x4

DAI benchmarks at 35- 45 fps, but after 12 hours of play ive not seen the fps drop below 55, and it looks stunning and plays butter smooth ... the best looking game ive seen yet

Despite the great power efficiency my pc does seem to be using 100 more watts per hour whilst gaming. But the card is being worked hard

Nicest surprise is that v sync seems to be much more intelligent than on my 760 ... on or off seems to make no difference to fps, but the game runs so much smoother with it on

An expensive purchase for me, but worth every penny
