The Kolink External Drive Enclosure is a mobile home for large 3.5-inch hard drives. The black external case is made of brushed aluminum and therefore feels and looks of high quality.
The installation of the hard drive in the Kolink housing is very simple by hand. The Enclosure includes the required screwdriver to help with the installation process. The integrated SATA interface supports the proven SATA 3G standard, whose realistic achievable bandwidth is a maximum of 300 MB / s (= 3 Gbit / s) and therefore more than adequate for all hard drives. The enclosure supports volumes up to 3TB in capacity.
Although even the fastest desktop HDDs can only achieve just over 150 MB / s as the transfer rate, they are slowed down considerably by the classic USB 2.0 standard, so that Kolink's external housing here relies on a current USB 3.0 port with a theoretical data rate of 640 MB / s (= 5 Gbit / s). To supply the built-in 3.5-inch hard drive with sufficient energy, the operation of an included power supply is needed.
The connection between the external drive and a PC, laptop or other device via an appropriate USB 3.0 cable from USB Type A to USB Type B, which is also included in the delivery. Thanks to its rather compact size, the external Kolink housing is a practical aid for outsourcing or transporting large amounts of data.
