A quick heads up

I swapped out my old Pioneer DVD drive for one of these, and at first it was recognised by my PC, but showed "No disc" no matter what I inserted. Searching the net I found it was a common issue, so I took it back to overclockers who found it to be working on their machines. They supplied me with another sata lead to test with my machine at home and it worked a treat.

Great product

So far so good. Easy to install and arrived very quickly. I will say though for anyone who is fairly new to installing things themselves that you will need both a SATA cable to hook it up to your motherboard and a SATA Power cable from your PSU to power it- there is no option to plug it into the pins, it's all SATA.

Other than that I'm very pleased with it! Fits in my BitFenix Prodigy case perfectly and easily connects to my Mini-ITX motherboard.

Does what is says on the tin and does it well.
Always good to get a product that just works!

I've not burnt anything with it yet, but as far as watching dvd's and Bluerays it works perfectly. Integrates with Windows Media centre using Power DVD for BD's which seems to work ok..

Worth every penny

Went for an LG Blu-Ray because I've had such good experiences with their DVD drives, and I was again completely satisfied.

Burns onto the cheapest BD-R blanks I can find at 4x - 30 of them with absolutely no errors so far; DVD burns are, of course, excellent - my numerous DL discs are all error free. The drive is beautifully smooth and quiet, and looks great with its silver pinstripe and gloss black frontage.

It's a good inch longer than a DVD drive, so make sure there are no clearance issues in your case.

This is a no nonsense bluray burner that has so far not given me 1 error burn on any blurays/ dvds or cds & hasn't failed to read a single disc yet...

Top marks LG for another low to mid ranged priced peice of hardware that seems to perform as good as the more expensive 1's do...

well worth the

Great fast drive compatible with anythin

This is definitely the ultimate optical drive. It supports every know format of writeable disk be it a CD, DVD or Blu-Ray.

It has impressive write speeds for all disks, making burning a 25GB BD-R far less painful. It also features the fantastic Lightscribe disk labelling capability which uses the laser to 'burn' a monochrome label onto your Lightscribe disks.

I strongly recommend Verbatim's selection of Lightscribe disks for this drive, although you might only find them online. You can now find Verbatim dual-layer DVD+R lightscribe disks which are perfect for backing up your movies and having a professional quality label on them. Currently Blu-Ray lightscribe disks do not exist so you'll need a disk-safe marker or some other labelling method for those.

Caveat emptor

The good is the unit; easy installation, picked up by Windows, a good quality solid feeling player.
The bad is the bundled CyberLink PowerDVD, which gave the message 'there is a disk with an unsupported format in drive' on putting 'genuine freshly unwrapped' District 9 Blu-ray disk in. Googling that phrase showed showed similar problems, and suggested upgrading firmware (there is a util to do that, installed with the bundle, but no new firmware was available). Upgraded various chipset drivers, no deal. Suddenly started working (hoorah!) only to suddenly shut down half way through the film (boo!), then repeated the 'unsupported' message.
There is a later CyberLink PowerDVD version, but in the end I tried (and bought) ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre 3 - which works fine.
So slightly disappointed at the extra cost (but the bundled was a primitive, upgradeable version anyway) and effort, but got there in the end and am happy with the product now.
