PC-Q10 Mini-ITX Case - Black

Lian-Li Industrial Co. Ltd announces the PC-Q10WX Mini-PC chassis. A continuation of Lian Li's lineup of small PC cases, the PC-Q10WX is the first Q series case to feature an acrylic side wall: perfect for showing off the high-performance hardware and cooling systems this conveniently sized chassis can accommodate.

The Lian Li PC-Q10WX is very compact, weighing only 2.3kg and measuring 207mm x 277mm x 335mm. Despite its size, its clever layout still offers enough space for a 270mm VGA card, a CPU cooler up to 140mm tall, and a PSU up to 150mm long. The PC-Q10WX supports up to two 3.5" drives or three 2.5" drives. A 5.25" drive bay fits a slim optical disk drive or an additional 2.5" or 3.5" drive. It supports a standard ATX power supply for builders who do not want to sacrifice high-performance components for a small form factor. Two expansion slots provide enough room for full-sized video cards.

With space for a 240mm radiator on the top panel, and 120mm on the back panel - this little case gives builders enough flexibility to install almost any kind of water or air cooling setup. The water cooling grommets allow all-in-one cooler tubes to pass from inside to out; a small touch that gives DIY enthusiasts more freedom. And with room for up to 140mm CPU air coolers, it is possible to outfit the PC-Q10WX with air or water cooling.

Almost entirely composed of brushed aluminum and acrylic, the PC-Q10WX is robust, beautiful, and minimal. Even its power button is cut from aluminum. Aluminum pegs with rubberized feet provide clearance along the bottom panel for increased airflow. The power button, two USB 3.0 ports, and HD audio ports are available on the front panel, along with a small air vent, for convenient connectivity. The top and side panels pop open and closed securely while the glass wall uses 4 thumbscrews for easy access.

Much better than previous small gaming cases from Lian Li - still needs a few detail improvements

This Mini-ITX case has a far better layout and size for a small volume (19liters) gaming system than Lian Li's previous efforts in small cases. Material and manufacturing quality is extremely high as always.

But they still seem to be day-dreaming on a lot of details:

- if you install a GPU, you can't install the 3.5" HDD as shown by Lian Li's instructions.
- the PSU is hanging in the center between left and right side of the case, leaving inadequate space for the 3.5 HDD on either side. The PSU should be moved toward the left side (window side), then there would be ample space for a single 3.5 drive cage to the right of the PSU, not interfering with looks or anything else.
- the internal tray that holds the main board is placed well, but the thin aluminum lacks creasing or any other reinforcement, so it bends too easily. Further, the rear of it lacks cable management features, which it should have, given that's the preeminent space to hide extra lengths of cable in this case.
- the slim slot drive faces up, meaning dust will get into the drive eventually.
- the slot opening in the case is extremely narrow and consists of sharp edged aluminum - better be very careful not to scrape and scratch your Blu-Rays, installation media etc.
- with the drive opening facing up and the entire top perforated, this case is at much greater risk in case of a fatal liquid spill than others.
- given that liquid cooling can't be implemented well with the position of the PSU anyway, they should have at least provided mounting points for a 140mm fan at the top rear instead of the undersized 120mm mounting points.
- with the GPU fans facing down and relatively small clearance from the case feet, its best not to place this system on carpet.
- The positioning of the front USB+Audio+Power Button is poorly chosen, as the cabling interferes with GPUs longer than 270mm. For a 300mm GPU, you'd have to move that up by 30mm - in a needless project of drilling and cutting the front :p

In spite of this laundry list, I'm currently using it with a custom cut aluminum piece to move the powersupply as I described and gain space for my 3.5" data storage drive. I fitted the SSD into the same tray as the slim optical drive - even though Lian Li does not show that option in their documentation, it does fit a Samsung 850 Pro with clearance.
