PC-Q34A Mini-ITX Case - Silver

Lian-Li Industrial Co. Ltd introduces the PC-Q34, its latest small form factor (SFF) Q-series case. Like the PC-V33 and PC-Q33, this mini ITX chassis includes a flip-open canopy for easy access to components. Builders no longer need to squeeze hands and fingers into tight, out-of-reach spaces. The PC-Q34 comes in four colors – silver, black, red, and gold.

After removing the snap-on/off side panels by removing two thumbscrews on the back panel, users can swing the canopy open along a hinge in the front. This gets the top and front panels out of the way for easy building and maintenance. Many small form factor (SFF) cases are notorious for being troublesome to build; choosing the PC-Q34 is a good way to preempt these headaches.

The PC-Q34 supports ATX PSUs as long as 180mm. The PSU mounts on a rubber vibration dampener along the bottom panel, along with a removable drive bay fitting two 3.5” drives or one 3.5” and one 2.5” drive. The front panel also includes mounts for one 2.5” and one 3.5” drive – all together, a total of four possible drives. Motherboards are installed horizontally on a panel above the PSU, leaving plenty of room for CPU coolers up to 180mm tall and VGA cards 220mm long. It includes two expansion slots and supports Mini-ITX and Mini-DTX motherboards, while weighing only 1.85Kg.

The PC-Q34 does not include a fan, but can optionally mount a 120mm fan on the back panel. It instead includes large vents on both side panels and emphasizes natural convection for cooling. The thermal design positions the PSU to recycle its own air, while accommodating a large CPU cooler and VGA card that breath well on their own through the spacious side vents. It’s minimal, simple, and elegant for SFF enthusiasts and beginners alike.

Amazing, but with a couple huge flaws

Okay, so I love this case. But there are a few things about it that confuse the ever-living SHIT out of me.

Pros first:
- There are plenty of high-performing graphics cards that can fit in this little beauty nowadays. There's even a 1080 from Zotac coming soon that can fit. No need for ITX cases to need full-length GPU support nowadays IMO.
- Oh, right, it looks awesome. Build quality is also great.
- Building in this thing is like a dream. ITX cases, even high-end ones like from NZXT or Phanteks, are always a pain in the ass to put together. Not this. My god that hinge, it's beauotifuul.
- It can fit HUGE cpu coolers. I have a Noctua D15S in there.

Now, the cons:
- Top ventilation would have been nice.
- I really wish magnetic dust filters were included, or at least available like they are for the Dan Cases A4-SFX.
- The power LED is blue, which is irritating. Please case makers, always just have white or RGB...
- There's no ATX to SFX power supply adapter, which would have been nice.
- THE HARD DRIVE BRACKET BLOCKS GPU INSTALLATION. This is one of the big ones. My GPU wouldn't go in because the bracket blocks the, like, metal prong parts on the I/O plate. The ones that are standard on every GPU in existence. I had to remove the hard drive bracket, put the GPU in, and then re-install the bracket with the plate wedged in between that and the case. Huge design flaw.
- The rear fan mounting point is retarded on all levels. Not only is the vent pattern idiotic and makes the fan noisy, but I couldn't even MOUNT the fan properly- the holes seem to have been designed with anti-vibration washers in mind similar to the way hard drives are mounted in this case. But there aren't any. My fans screws go right through the holes, and any other fan's screws will too. I managed to mount it on a skewed angle by shoving two screws into the "in-between" part on the holes where you'd shove the washers into place, but it's clearly not right. I don't understand what the fuck this is about; why are these rubber fan mounting rings not included and why do normal screws not fit?? It's not just a case of my box didn't have them, either; there's no mention in the case manual or on the Lian-Li website of how you're supposed to mount a rear fan properly. At least it can be done, though.

So all in all, I love this case for the fact that I can put a Noctua D15S and a GTX 1070 into a tiny footprint that looks great. The rear fan issue is infuriating, though, and I feel like this case's other little niggles could have been solved with barely any effort from Lian-Li whatsoever. They're not compromises, they're just annoyances for no reason. I can live without the adapter and dust filters but top ventilation same as the sides and non-problematic GPU mounting, not to mention a white power LED like any reasonable person would want, seem like no-brainers. The rear fan mount situation is beyond my comprehension.

It annoys me that I'm going to buy this case a second time, because I love it and want it myself (this build the review is based on was for a friend/client).

I recommend it but be aware of the problems.
