Avior 'SK Gaming' Professional Gaming Mouse

The official gaming mouse of SK Gaming, the AVIOR SK is a premium 9 button ambidextrous mouse. The unique ergonomic shape has been developed to be used by either right or left-handed gamers, and to support a palm or claw grip.

The ADNS-3310 gaming grade optical sensor delivers no positive or negative hardware acceleration, amazing accuracy, smooth tracking, and a maximum speed of more than 5.45m/sec (215 IPS) all the way up to 7000DPI.

With the new lift off distance (LOD) Calibration feature we have combined the Surface Quality Analyzer Tool (S.Q.A.T ™) with adjustment of the lift off height to find the lowest possible LOD with optimized tracking.

The lightning fast 32bit ARM™ processor enables the mouse to have many features without compromising the tracking of the sensor. The downloadable software provides access to fully customize all buttons, sensor settings, LED colors, macros and profiles.

Ambidextrous delight

I have been using a Logitech G300 for a few years now. It's OK, but increasingly it seemed that a button click didn't always register. So I looked for a replacement.

This Mionix SK mouse was in the Black Friday sale for 1/3 off, and was bundled with a free "microfiber mouse pad." It seemed good value.

It is excellent to use. It is larger than the pictures suggest, perhaps 10 to 20% bigger than the G300. Similarly shaped, the buttons are higher, and it is less scalloped on the sides. Where I used to develop a big of a sore thumb gripping the waisted G300 with my semi-claw style, this Mionix fills my palm, with thumb and ring fingers lightly gripping the sides.

It is a big step up in comfort. I could use this mouse all day with no trouble.
The wheel has a very satisfying notchy rotation. And it is perfectly ambidextrous, which matters a lot when you use a mouse with your left hand, like I do.
I do tend to catch the side buttons with my ring finger, but the thumb side buttons are perfectly placed. You can set these buttons to have no function via software driver (they do nothing by default - it behaves as a standard 3 button mouse)

The packaging box had a thickness of cardboard I haven't seen in decades. Almost as solid as metal. But the little flysheet of information and some decals were hidden underneath, between the box and a solid carboard insert, that does not have to come out to release the mouse. It would be easy to never know they were there. That would be a shame, because the flysheet tells you to visit the Mionix website to download the driver for user configuration.
That driver is very simple and easy to use, and allows up to five different profiles, all independently configuring the three DPI rates available (you can pick what DPI you want), LED colours (25 options!) for wheel and logo (and whether they should be lit or not - each has an on/off toggle), acceleration, scroll wheel rate, and all seven buttons are user configurable. The usual Right, Left and Wheel clicks can be changed, as well as the pair of buttons on each side. So, absolutely and completely ambidextrous.

The driver also permits you to define a "slew angle". This is the angle that your preferred grip and arm movement differs from the actual perfect horizontal and vertical orientation of the mouse. The shape suits me so well, I don't need to set it, but that was something that my old mouse needed, as that awkward thumb tended to rotate the mouse by about 5 degrees. SO, the mouse that has such good ergonomics that it doesn't need correction, has correction available. Go figure.

There is no red glow from underneath, either. Whatever optical system is used to track the surface, it doesn't seem to produce any visible light. Slightly unnerving when you are wondering if the thing is on. I have resorted to leaving the mouse wheel lit up, to tell me.

The cable is like a braided cloth, and seemed prone to kinking while I was setting it up, but it's been OK in use. The 2m cable length is marvellous, since the mouse sits on the left, but my PC box is on the right, away and to the side of my desk.

I will never need another mouse, so long as this one lasts. For the deal, I cannot fault the value, and am very happy with the feel and comfort. Performance seems assured, with the SK gaming approval.

At full price, I cannot tell if it is worth it, because I've never used a mouse this expensive before (I have no idea how the "oppostition" stacks up. What I can say, is that this mouse feels solid and sensible, with no gimmicks. I can recommend it, especially for "lefties", if the price doesn't bother you.
