GeForce GTX 970 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Virtual Reality is upon us with the likes of Oculus Rift already available and HTC Vive coming very soon. Valve have released a SteamVR benchmark which will test your system for VR Readiness, we advice customers to run this benchmark as the minimum specification to be VR Ready is a GTX 970 from camp NVIDIA. VR is a game changer for games such as Elite Dangerous, Portal 3, Flight simulator, Project cars and who knows the elusive Half Life 3 may make an appearance from Valve as being VR optimised, lets keep our fingers crossed.

Maxwell is the most advanced GPU architecture ever made, designed to be the engine of next generation gaming. Inspired by light, it was designed to solve some of the most complex lighting and graphics challenges in visual computing. For the first time, gaming GPU's can dynamically render indirect light using the new VXGI (Voxel Global Illumination technology). Scenes are significantly more lifelike as light interacts more realistically in the game environment.

The GTX 980 is the worlds fastest GPU and the GTX 970 offers the most advanced performance in its class. Each delivers 2x the performance of previous-generation card, bringing new gaming experiences to virtual reality, and ultra resolution 4k displays.

Enable the detail of 4k monitors, on a 1080P display. DSR produces smoother images by rendering a game at a high resolution, then downscaling it to the native resolution of the display using advanced filtering.

GeForce GTX 980 and 970 cards support tear-free, super-fast NVIDIA G-Sync monitor display technology including 4k. Together, these technologies provide the most immersive and competitive gaming experiences possible.

Get VR Ready with GeForce® GTX.
GeForce® GTX graphics cards provide a powerful next-generation platform for the ultimate immersive virtual reality experience. Immersive VR requires seven times the graphics processing power of traditional 3D apps and games. NVIDIA's unique set of features-such as multi-res shading-mean you get the right level of performance, image quality, and latency to ensure your VR experience is nothing short of amazing.

Top Notch

First thing I noticed about the card is the exceptional build quality - it's sturdy and looks great, unlike many cards which seem so fragile. Performance is first class, amazed how much difference it made.

Robert Kimber 2016-03-24

Pretty damn good

I have a somewhat different version to this card. I think it is just aesthetically different rather than specifications. Anyway, this is a cracking card!

Excellent card

Purchased card to compliment new 2560x1080 monitor, a GPU upgrade from prior 670 GTX.

Fantastic performance, playing latest games with ease on Ultra settings.

Card recommended :)

Great Until...

Mine blew up on the 364th day of use in quite a spectacular display. Sparks and a few small flames for about 2 seconds. I have 2 of these and the other card is still going strong. Hoping the faulty card is just a blip and that I will have no other issues going forward.

Can't fault OCUK who I give 100***** for customer service my return arrived with them today and I have received email reporting my replacement will be dispatched soon.

Very good

Perfect for my new 2560x1440 monitor.

Excellent card

Bought this card to replace my troublesome HD7970 ghz windforce edition that is still decent in some ways but crippled by bad drivers. Games used to crash every 5 minutes until I removed catalyst control centre after which it was better but not truely reliable.

This card, under load, is not as quiet as my previous card and louder than I expected but only slightly. Not enough to be noticeable while gaming. Have heard a noise under load what I think is coil whine, but is not louder than the fans under load.

I am now able to use the full 2560x1600 of my monitor at high or very high settings without making significant compromises to maintain a solid vsync 60 frame rate. (Ignoring recent GTA & Batman issues)

The MSI package of drivers and software are easy to use and working well. Not had a need to OC the card more than it is.

Well worth the money, thoroughly recommended.

Fast, Kinda cool, quiet

A great product. I have the ME edition, but since that has gone off here, and these are the same products at the end of the day, i'll review this one ^^

Great product as already said, looks the bees knees. Nice and cool until... You play a game. As the fans do not come on until it has hit past 50degrees, they coincidently, turn off once it is under 50degrees. So you card, after gaming, will sit there idling around that temperature for quite some time until it slowly cools down on its own. I would have liked to have seen a 30-40% fan speed on this since you cannot actually hear it. You can obviously setup your own fan profiles using MSI Afterburner if this is a big issue.

Overall, great card, and for me, its a major step up from the MSI 760 I had previously.

Sli msi gtx 970

Upgraded to two of these after crossfire 7950 I switched to the green team as I felt amd was neglecting the 7000 series when when r9 came out with driver updates always updating there new gpu's and saying the 7000 would soon get fixed so got sick of waiting. And I am glad I did the performance of these gpu's is great battlefield 4 ultra setting at 1920x1080 always keeping my refresh rate up to 144 runs witcher 3 and Gta v with no problems.
Got 17334 on firestrike with i7 5930k and msi x99 gaming 9 ack using oc genie not tries oc my self yet.
And as usual great service from overclockers

Amazing Card

I recently upgraded from a crossfire 6950 set up to a single MSI 970 and the increase is amazing! game codes emailed on dispatch, great value imo! no 'coil whine' and generally a very quiet card. just makes me want/need a 1440p monitor :P

I bought this card as an upgrade for my Radeon 6870 2GB, and wow what an upgrade!

All the games run I have(including some recent ones) run at max settings and rarely go below 60FPS. Its got a much lower power consumption than my old card, and generally runs cooler. It is a little bit noisy when its working hard, but if you have gaming sound, music, etc you wont hear it at all.

Get one

Very happy, gone from a MSI 670 PE.... had to return the first 970 i had. There was a frame rate issue dropping and rising but after the RMA I found out it was caused not by the card but a bad install of Riva Tuner, sorted that and coupled with the Asus Swift Monitor (went from a 47" LED TV) I was amazed on what I had been missing. Overclockers have been amazing as usual with any advise and and the RMA.

Awesome card

I sold my GTX780Ti for one of these, i was so impressed by its overclocking potential it matched the 780ti in almost everything in gaming and passed it in many others, so i went out and bought another one to SLI, its blistering speed in SLI far out performed a lot of cards on the market, especially with MSI afterburner and this version comes with its own gaming app, it ran Far Cry 4 without breaking sweat, and never reached above 60c, and is very quiet. In all a terrific card, go get one.

What a card, epic speed, what a jump fro

Have been tempted by the new cards for a while, and came across the sale on black friday, and picked this up. What a card, played DAI and FC4 no problems at all, the detail is amazing, runs crazy cool for the power it has. Can't recommend it enough.

Although delivered a day late, OC were crazy busy with the sales, so very understandable, and they still refunded my delivery, and got a FC4 free with the promotion. So can't say fairer than that. Many thanks OC and happy to use you again.

Excellent Card

Hello potential 970 owner,

I recommend you become a full 970 owner, these are the reasons:

Running Farcry 4(1920x1080p)on Ultra with Triple buffering is flawless, I haven't checked the fps yet but it is incredibly fast and smooth, and pretty - it's at least running constant 60+ fps.
Running CSGO in ultra settings i maintain a solid 300fps constantly, so you will for sure experience no fps lag here.
Darksiders 2 is beautiful..

I am running with the new I5 4690 haswell devils canyon, 8gb 2400mhz ram. MSI is much better than any other manufacturer's GTX 970 in my opinion, and everything MSI makes seems to be excellent.

For those people who are reading up on the fan issues, I have not experienced this so do not let it put you off!

Highly recommend this product, enjoy!

Great card however only 110% TDP

As you can tell from all the other user reviews that this is a nice card however couple issues i have come across on my MSI GTX 970 cards.

1. Only 110% TDP. Trust me its a really annoying issue when overclocking the cards. these cards could clock much higher if it wasnt for the low TDP.

2. On one of my cards there is a slight coil wine. i have heard that some of these cards can have some serious issues with coil wine so keep that in mind.

Other than that they are good cards. mine dont go above 64c in sli on auto fan profile, that said they are in a carbide 540 with the side panel off.

Do your reserch on the GTX970's and dont buy the MSI just cus there are lots of user reviews. there are better brand name GTX 970's out there depending on what you are after. ;)

It's just too good!

Building myself a new box I wasn't sure what card to get but decided to 'future proof' and get the 970. Even though I'm linux-only so can't use the 'special sauce' options it just handles everything I throw at it without any issues. The white dragon is a nice touch but so far I can't make it change colour as nothing i've done seems to make it work hard!

Also, great service and fast delivery from OCUK ;-)

Amazing graphics card and service from O

Good day,

I picked up this baby just about a week ago, i didn't overclock it yet but i do plan in the future. Out of the box it proved to run very silently as well as stay below 60 degrees under stress tests, very pleasing. , i've been buying parts from you guys for over 6 years now and i have to say you guys never cease to amaze me, as always thank you for the great service, delivery time under 2 days as well as the haribo pack :). I had to contact you due to promotion that has taken place few days later than i purchased the card and you guys came through for me. Can't thank you enough :)

Very solid graphics card!

Got this card for my first gaming rig. I am very satisfied with it! I haven't got round to buying any games to really test it but I have played the Evil Within demo where I got 55fps+ on highest setting on 1080p- the optimization for games is also a fairly useful feature too. It optimized Counter Strike Source and now runs at way over 150fps, but it's not exactly a graphically demanding game, so ignore that.

Overall, a very solid buy!! 10/10 would buy again- and will buy again to game in 4k at 60+ fps ;)

Incredible Upgrade

I have just upgraded to this card from my old MSI GTX 460 Talon Attack. Immediate performance increase. Noise level slightly lower since my old Twin Forzr was quite quiet anyway.

Definitely recommend. I was going to wait till next year to build a new pc but this is too good to pass up.

Superb hardware

Having recently purchased this card as an upgrade from ancient crossx'ed 5770's I'm extremely pleased with the hardware. Suffice to say the performance is spectacular.
There's no apparent coil whine as you could have read in few places around the web. In fact, the only thing that can whine from time to time is my PSU...which is a little surprising, it being Antec Trupower 750W but then again I've had it for a while and perhaps it's on its way out.

The Geforce Experience program that comes bundled with the card is superb, it optimises games for you (in this card's case - maxes all out) and where applicable it switches the DSR... that means that the games can be rendered up to 4K and downsampled to 1080p for improved quality. Again, superb feature.

I made a short video of unboxing and first look if you're interested to see the card and what's in the box for you:

All the best,

Simply Amazing

I have yet to find a game I cannot run on ultra at either 60 FPS or very close to that, it runs cool, quiet and looks epic.
Will not find better value for money and I'm not even going to get into overclocking potential!!!

Bargain of the year, easily.

I was in two minds whether to get this card or to stick with my MSI 780 Lightning. On one hand, the 780 was adequate for my needs, but 3gb on it vs 4gb on this 970 would have been beneficial as I play at 1440p.

However, my mind was made when I managed sell my 780 for a good price, so I thought I might as well go for it, and what a card this turned out to be! It outperforms my old 780 out of the box, and the overclocking potential is brilliant. I managed to match most of the overclocks that people and reviews have been reporting while staying well within the TDP limit, and with fans on auto. I am sure if I push harder I could get more out of it before the limit is hit, but there is no need for it at the moment. Out of the box I think it matches the 780 Ti, and once overclocked, it outperforms it without breaking a sweat.

All of this was achieved while keeping temperatures under control, and noise to a minimum! The fan does not start up until temperatures hit 50

Fantastic card. Fan's don't spin until the card reaches a higher temp so it's totally silent while desktop browsing and when doing light gaming.

Overclocking is where the 970 shines and the MSI is no slough.

+240 on the core and +600 on the memory (afterburner settings) sees my card boost into the 1600s and gives the card an effective 8200 memory speed.

Great, until...

Coil whine. Myself, and a lot of other people are having problems with these cards and the coil whine they produce. The card looks great, runs cool, and performs well, but if you're like me and very sensitive to high pitched noises, the coil whine is unbearable, so be warned. It seems pretty random as to which cards have coil whine, but it's a fair possibility you may get one which does.

Fast n cool!

Got this to replace an MSI 7950 twin frozer... alot faster and much quiter! It is barely auidable even when benching and is fast enough at stock for me now playing at 1080p.

Nice solid build and cracking for the price!

Best card you will buy this year!

I upgraded, and please note how I say UPGRADED, from an MSI HD 7990 which is a dual GPU beast of a card to this monster! Not to discredit AMD, it was a great card while it lasted but their driver/interface support compared to Nvidia's is abysmal and they cannot maximize their hardware's potential. Its such a breath of fresh air to have returned back to Nvidia and be using Nvidia Control Panel again, and the lovely addition of GeForce Experience.

Right, now down to Brass tax. Here are the facts guys...You will not purchase a better card this year for this price putting out this much performance. It's simply not going to happen. There is a reason this thing is getting write up's all over the internet. This thing has beaten my 7990 in benchmarks for the majority of games I have played and a substantial increase in performance in Nvidia optimized games like Watch_Dogs and AC4: Black Flag. 1080p, max settings and a smooth 60fps. Absolute bliss! I also notice a substantially smoother experience, likely due to the fact that I am back to using a single GPU instead of dealing with the microstutter encountered when using the pre-configured crossfire setup with the 7990.

I cannot stress to anybody enough that is thinking about buying this card to just go ahead and do it. Overclockers have sold out twice now for a reason. I was lucky enough to grab one on sale for

Monster of a card

Bought this along with my CPU and MOBO upgrade and holy smokes! What a card!

BF4 in 1080 with everything on ultra, solid 100+ fps.
ARMA 3 with everything on ultra, solid 50-60 fps.

I've not even OC'd this bad boy yet...

Cracking Card

I got this card to replace two 6850's I had in crossfire. Originally I was going to spend less and go for a R9 280 or similar, but after reading the professional reviews decided to fork out some more to get this card. As expected, I have seen as massive improvement in FPS in games and am currently playing Shadows or Mordor on ultra settings, with some overclocking. Happy days! Don't hesitate - order one now.

Excellent card

Bought this to replace a GTX 560Ti in a new build. The diference is incredible. I just set every game to max settings @ 1080p and it runs like a dream. Crysis 2 looks like a new game. The fans don't spin at all until under load and even then they're barely audible. Great value considering its performance and newness.

Incredible performance for the price

Got this card the other day, so far really impressed both with how quiet it is and how well it performs, out the box I got more than double performance of my MSI gtx760, which increased even further after I got 1.5ghz overclock on core and 8ghz effective speed on memory.

If you have an older card and are looking to upgrade, this is a must buy, will 100% get 2nd to sli very soon.

Beast of a Bargain for performance!

This card is such a win for price>performance value. I upgraded from a gtx 770, games are a lot smoother, a noticable 20-30% fps increase. Super resolution options available via geforce experience which were not available for the gtx 770 and every game looks super sharp.

designed for higher than 1080p resolutions, will eat any game at 1080p
looks nice
best value GPU i have ever seen from nVidia, no reason to consider AMD cards

No mousemats in the UK?? free in US or was it just me??
no backplate (stingy, wanted the asus but they were too slow at getting in stock)
very mild overclock at stock

OC Monster

I bought this card to upgrade from a MSI GTX 770 OC edition in preperation for grand theft auto 5 and so far im more than impressed. I managed a +200mhz on core and memory and went from 3480 on "Firestrike" extreme preset with the 770 too 5556 which is more then a sufficient jump to justify the price. BUY IT NOW

Great card. What a difference.

Upgraded from my MSI GTX 660 and an AMD 3.5Ghz X4 970 Black Edition chip to this card and an i5 4690k. What a difference. Was getting 10-11 FPS in Fire Strike 3D mark on my old rig, now getting 50-60FPS. Amazing!

Divinity:Original Sin runs much smoother. Now re-downloading Skyrim again to enjoy some ENB goodness.

I had to fit a 6 pin AND an 8 pin 12v connectors to the card to make it work, but the card comes with a 6 to 8 pin adapter so it wasn't a problem. Card runs quiet too. Much quieter than the 660.

Great service as usual from OCUK. Thanks. :)

amazing card amazing price

overclocks like crazy 8ghz gddr5 and boosts to 1545mhz @ 70 degrees with only 52% fan speed
will buy another soon to sli

What an absolute cracker!

Fast, cool and quiet. It looks great too.

Performs on a par with a GTX 690 for half the power and at a fantastic price point.

Overclocking headroom is huge, producing GTX 780ti beating or GTX 980 equalling performance.

These are so good, you just have to buy two.

Maxwell GPU's also introduce some nice new features and technologies. Like Dynamic Super Resolutions, to give 4K image quality on a 1080p monitor!

Even The dragon logo on the top lights up! Every one's a winner.

Impressive looks and quiet!

Just recieved my card from OCUK, upgraded from 770 4gb version.

Getting an extra 20fps in Arma 3. not tried others just yet

Impressive looking card

Well Happy

Very fast!

Every game so far 60+ fps with max settings at 1440p. On top of that it's cool, quiet (silent most of the time), and supports latest nvidia technologies.

Very very happy

Was a bit wary of getting this as I owned an evga gtx 780, but I decided to and I'm glad I did, out of the box it's slightly faster than my 780, the card didn't go above 62 degrees, the fans don't even come on until it reaches 60 degrees. Looks great in my case, white led lit Msi logo and a nice red glow from above that. I overclocked this by 150 MHz and 200 hz on the memory and it matched my old 690 and 7990 in benchmarks! Amazing for the price, when overclocked it didn't go above 64 degrees, so I'm sure it will overclock more, it's true this beats the 780 and when overclocked easily matches the 780 ti, get one!
