Radeon RX 580 GAMING X 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
The MSI Radeon RX 580 Gaming X 8G with semi-passive Twin-Frozr cooler achieves a base clock of 1340 MHz in silent mode, which can be boosted up to 1393 MHz. The 8GB GDDR5 video memory clocks at 4000 MHz (effectively 8000 MHz) and are connected to the GPU (graphics chip) with a 256-bit memory interface. An 8-pin power connector provides power to the 27.6 cm long graphics card, and a power supply of 500 watts is recommended for operation.
In order to acheive the full power of the graphics card, it is important that the electronics of the card remain as cool as possible. MSI relies on the popular, very quiet and effective Twin-Frozr cooler. In the case of the semi-passive Twin Frozr VI, The rotor blades of the two 10 cm Torx fans rework, the fresh air through large aluminum heat sinks and several nickel-plated heatpipes.
The Polaris graphics chips of the Radeon RX-500 series are manufactured in the optimized 14-nm FinFET-LPP process, which has increased the performance compared to the RX-400 series. The number of shader units of the Radeon RX 580 remains unchanged at 2,304 compared to the Radeon RX 480. However, the Radeon RX 580 offers nearly 10 per cent more computing power than the direct predecessor. The reason for this increase in performance are the increased clock rates in the boost, which are possible through process optimization.
Among the various innovative features of the Polaris architecture are a new command processor, a geometry processor, reworked multimedia cores, an optimized display engine and an improved memory controller. Other supported technologies include Async Compute, Vulkan, DirectX 12, and AMD's FreeSync 2 technology .
The Radeon RX-500 series is based on the same control, power and clock rate technologies as the 400 series and accordingly, the Radeon RX 580 (in the reference design) has a low TDP of only 185 watts. Monitors can be connected to the graphics card via display port, HDMI or DVI-D, and EyeFinity technology allows up to four screens to be connected in a multi-display setup. The HDMI connector in standard 2. 0b transmits 4K / UHD resolution at 60 hertz and has HDCP 2.2 to send and receive encrypted signals (4K-streaming, 4K Blu-Rays), while the DP 1.4 port supports even 8K at 60 Hz.
