Incredible 1440p Gaming Performance: AMD Radeon RX 5700 Series with Navi Available Now!
The new AMD Radeon RX 5700 series uses new Navi technology and is based on the RDNA GPU architecture, and this time it utilises 7nm FinFET lithography. The biggest development in the AMD Radeon RX 5700 and the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT thus far lies in support for PCI Express 4.0, along with H.265 / HEVC video (encoding & decoding) as well as support for more technologies like Radeon VR Ready Premium. All in all, this new offering from AMD looks to promise high performance and an incredible gaming experience at 1440p.
PCIe 4.0 requires a compatible motherboard (e.g with AMD X570 chipset), but backwards compatibility is assured and RX 5700-series graphics cards can of course be used without issue on older PCIe 3.0 motherboards. More welcome developments include changes to the Boost functions in addition to the 8GB of GDDR6-VRAM clocked at 7.000 MHz and the 256-Bit memory interface. The DisplayPort 1.4 connectors on RX 5700- graphics cards offer DSC compression to support resolutions up to 8K at 60Hz.

The Navi 10-based GPU of the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT is clocked, in the reference design, with a 1.605 MHz base clock, with a max Boost Clock of 1.905 MHz. The Game Clock of 1.755 MHz gives a nominal average frequency under load during gaming. The AMD Radeon RX 5700 reference design is clocked with a max Boost Clock of 1.725 MHz, while the 1.465 MHz Boost Clock and the Game Clock operates at 1.625 MHz.

When it comes to cooling the Radeon RX 5700 series, the reference design utilises a radial-style blower cooler that exhausts warm air from the case (Radeon 5700 XT TDP: 225 Watt; Radeon 5700 TDP: 180 Watt) via the PCI slot. Power is supplied via 8- and 6-pin PCIe connectors and AMD recommends a 600 Watt power supply. In future, newer models of the graphics cards will include custom cooler designs from the respective board partners – possibly with raised clock frequencies!
