Update 2: Tech Specs of the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti & GTX 1660 Leaked?


wccftech.com (external link) has gathered some new rumours about the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti and GeForce GTX 1660 gaming graphics cards from NVIDIA. Both graphics cards are based on the TU116 chip with Turing-based GPU architecture. We have amalgamated the possible technical specifications of both the new NVIDIA graphics cards below:

In addition to these rumoured specifications, wccftech.com has also mentioned a version of the GeForce GTX 1660 with 3 GB of VRAM. As with its predecessor, the GTX 1060, there may be two distinct versions on the way, both of which would seem to be based on the PG165 PCB. Interestingly, the GTX 1660 Ti seems to share the same PCB layout as the RTX 2060: PG161. This could be related to the GDDR6-VRAM that both cards use. Information is yet to come to light in regards to potential performance increases, although we may not have to wait long since a release date could be pencilled in for mid-February.


Update 1: Rumour Mill: GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Benchmarks Leaked?


At wccftech.com (external link) the first benchmarks of the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti have appeared. Offering approximately 20 percent greater performance compared to its immediate predecessors, the internal benchmark of Ashes of the Singularity has seemingly tested a GTX 1660 Ti.

At Full HD "High" settings, the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti scored 7.400 points. Average frame rates of 75,6 FPS were recorded. That said, such numbers are to be taken with a pinch of salt, even though emerging rumours surrounding specs would seem to support these numbers. In terms of a release date of the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, February looks likely. Alongside the GTX 1660 Ti, it seems that the GTX 1660 will also be arriving around the same time.

The difference between both graphics cards seems to lie in the amount of VRAM at their disposal. The GTX 1660 is suspected to come with 6 GB GDDR5X, while the GTX 1660 Ti comes with faster GDDR6.


Original Post: Turing Without Ray-Tracing - GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Spotted in the Wild?


Ray-tracing is the headline feature of the GeForce RTX series of graphics cards and is possible thanks to its Turing GPU architecture. The feature is so fundamental to the line up that NVIDIA felt it appropriate to preface their Turing-based graphics cards specially with the "RTX" nomenclature. Yet the RTX series may not herald the end of the famous GeForce GTX branding just yet - the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti has apparently been spotted in the wild sans ray-tracing capabilities.

Videocardz.com (external link) was one of the first sites to report on a possible GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. Other sites, such as wccftech.com (external link) seized on the rumours and added further rumours into the pot as well. The German language magazine Computerbase.de (external link) has reported on a potential GeForce GTX 1660 Ti.

Here is a short rundown of the potential specs we might see on the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti:

  • TU116-GPU
  • 12 nm manufacturing node
  • 1.536 CUDA Cores
  • 6 GB GDDR6-VRAM
  • 192-Bit memory interface
  • 150 Watt TDP

With 1.536 Shader Units (CUDA Cores) the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti brings fewer compute units to the table than the bottom end of the RTX series of graphics cards. Whether the ray-tracing cores situated on the TU116 GPU used in the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti will be deactivated or not remains to be seen - it could also be the case that the cores are excised from the GPU entirely, although this is just speculation for now.

In terms of performance or a potential release date of the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti rumours remain thin on the ground. The GTX 1660 Ti offers 20 percent more compute cores than the GeForce GTX 1060. Additionally, the Turing-based shaders operate at greater speeds than those of the previous gen's Pascal cards that featured on the GTX 1060. What also remains to be seen is just whether the GTX 1660 Ti will arrive with GDDR6- or GDDR5(X)-VRAM. There could even be variants with both, if past releases are anything to go by.
