AMD Share price overtakes Intel:
Despite Intel announcing good profits during Q2 2020 earlier this week, the main focus was that the company is experiencing yet more delays to the 10nm desktop and 7nm processors. Intel let slip that they are 12 months behind schedule which is likely to push product launches back by around six months. All these delays have allowed AMD to edge even closer and its share price has soared with investors putting their faith in AMD as a big player in the CPU market. Intel’s share price has dropped to a low of $48.10 while AMD has hit a high of $77.11 at the time of writing. It seems Intel is no longer the undefeated king of the CPU market and AMD has made huge strides thanks to the success of it’s Zen 2 architecture. AMD is on target to release it’s Zen 3 CPU architecture and RDNA 2 GPUs later this year while Intel will likely ship 10nm desktop CPUs in the second half of 2021 and the first 7nm CPUs in 2022. Rockstar announces big game updates:
The player base for both GTA Online and Red dead redemption online is huge and dedicated, and Rockstar has announced big updates in the coming weeks. For Red dead online, there is the new Frontier Pursuit that will introduce players to the secrets of naturalism as part of an all-new Role. There’s also a new Outlaw Pass, tons of community-requested features and fixes, and more to discover in the months to come. GTA Online is getting a mix of diverse new content to keep players busy until the biggest ever update for GTA Online, featuring a new take on Heists in an entirely new location which is coming later this year. Rockstar also said they are cracking down on modders, cheaters, hackers which has always been a problem when joining online lobbies and must have put many gamers off playing the games over the years.
Microsoft showcases XBOX Gamepass:
Microsoft is keen to promote the awesome titles that are coming to the XBOX game pass as soon as they are released. For a monthly fee of $10, you can get unlimited access to a large game library which is set to include 17 big titles which will be playable on day one. Samuel Bateman tweeted out 17 big titles including Halo Infinite, Forza motorsport and Fable. The company has moved away from trying to sell consoles like the hugely anticipated and powerful Xbox Series X and is instead trying to be the biggest game subscription service going. The pass is available on PC, and it’s great to see Microsoft giving gamers access to all the latest titles no matter the platform.
Halo Infinite showcase:
On the 23rd of July Microsoft and 343 gave gamers a look at the official gameplay demo for Halo infinite. Overall opinions on the gameplay have been positive with many comparing it to the glory days of a more classic Halo we all know and love. Iconic weapons, vehicles and environments are mixed with new features such as a grappling hook, a drop shield and updated graphics. The Graphics were actually the main topic of discussion with many people calling them flat and current Gen thanks to the way dynamic lighting works in shadow. One solution to this problem is raytracing and it has been confirmed that Halo Infinite will receive a free update for ray tracing following the game's launch. The Xbox Series X, the console that Halo Infinite is being released alongside, can handle ray tracing. You’ll also be able to play on an RTX equipped PC. The developers have also stated that the game is still “very much in development” until it’s the release date of Holiday 2020.
There was a lot of stories to cover in this weeks news! There’s plenty of new hardware launches if you’re looking to upgrade your PC and it’s great to see how much competition there is in the CPU market. Epic continues to bolster our games library with free titles and it’s great to see Microsoft treating gamers equally no matter what they play on. Not forgetting there will be no more clowning around in Red dead redemption online as Rockstar has finally given players more content. Remember to check back next week for more stories and announcements!
