OcUK Tech Labs - Pre Noise Dampened Case - Enthoo Pro Glass Midi Tower - BlackNoise is a serious business, and although when we think of noisy environments our thoughts probably spring first to places like airports and busy roads, it's at home where noise matters most. Moreover, it's where people go to great lengths to minimise it too. Unfortunately, and all too often, it is our home PC which produces a disproportionate amount of environmental noise.
The potential sources of noise within a PC can include, and are not necessarily limited to, all components with moving parts - particularly fans and mechanical hard drives. These should have their vibrations dampened and their speeds reduced to the minimum necessary. Many cases nowadays are built with such aspects in mind, and even fresh from the factory they will include several quality of life improvements that assist in keeping unnecessary noise to a minimum.
That said, insulation can go a long way towards reducing unwanted noise to the absolute minimum. This modified version of the PHANTEKS Enthoo Pro with Tempered Glass side window takes this approach and is equipped from the factory with pre-installed insulation.
The benefit of this setup is that, aside from the pre-installed insulating mats, additional insulating material also comes included with the case. This is likewise custom cut to fit the case itself and enables users to selectively insulate additional elements of the case. The result of all this is that users themselves are free to choose exactly how much insulation their case has, allowing them to find an individual balance between cooling and noise reduction.
In the factory default state, the PHANTEKS Enthoo Pro has the insulating mat for the right section pre-installed. Three further mats are installed to their respective locations and effectively perform their task of minimising noise and unwanted vibrations, although if necessary they can also be glued in accordance with your personal preferences. Moreover, there are four mats that are included loose with the case, and of course these can be mounted as and when needed.
These loose mats are intentionally not preinstalled so as to avoid compromising on the case's ventilation. As such, users are free to achieve the right balance between insulation (noise reduction) and cooling that meets their needs. The exact locations of pre-installed or bundled mats are detailed in the specifications below.
All additional insulating mats are also labelled, something that in conjunction with the detailed instruction manual helps to ensure a straightforward setup. The instruction manual is customised especially for the needs of the PHANTEKS Enthoo Pro and goes to great lengths to explain in detail just how to install everything, also including helpful tips and explains the options open to the user as well as other insulating options.
In terms of function: the insulating mats aim for minimising noise by two means. Firstly, the soft materials help to absorb and minimise the noise from airflow and turbulence. Then, the mats help to reduce vibrations conducted and produced by the case itself. This combined approach helps to make sure that noise and vibrations are kept enclosed within the confines of the case and not allowed to escape. The included fan can also have its speed throttled to minimise noise even further.
Note: Please be aware that due to the insulating mats, there may be less total space available inside the case. Under certain circumstances, users may be restricted when it comes to laying cables behind the motherboard tray when compared to the non-insulated version.
