Update to previous review.

I can now say that this SSD is a much more solid product now that the firmware has been updated a few times. On the latest firmware, I have no issues whatsoever and speed doesn't seem to have degraded one bit since delivery.

My only gripes are that the price between now and when I first bought this product has dropped a fair bit, and after a good few months use I've come to the conclusion that 120GB (111GB formatted) simply isn't enough even for a laptop.

High hopes for the future with SSD sizes catching up!

Good + Could be better!

Upon installing the new SSD (new to these hard drives). My machine did detect it, but windows couldnt install on to it :( Once working that out i installed windows, did the correct firmware updates, everything.. Booted SOOOO quick, and it loads games very fast! Tip i had lookin around to solve my freezing lock up problems, Dont plug this SSD into sata port 1.. use another port and tell windows power management to go at high performance, this should solve your problems if you have the same as me. However once solved! Great hard drive :D Once saved up abit more money i'll be getting a bigger drive :)

Success and failure

I brought two of these drives, using them in a new i5 build. I used one as OS drive and the other as a pure data drive.

The system boots really quickly, impressively so but the data drive failed within an hour of use whilst copying files over from a usb hdd. It simply disappeared from the system during the file transfer, and is no longer detected by the bios. I tried it in another machine which didn't detect it either.

Thank god it was the data drive and not the OS drive. Looks like I will have to RMA it, as its as dead as a brick.

Smilie face

Like others I was unsure about needing a SSD, and to be honest when upgrading a system, or building anew ppl mostly thing "how many films can i fit on it". I'd read reviews and allways thought 'get a better gfx card' or alike.
Well i took the plundge and absolutly love it. I use it to boot windows, and it boots and loads all services within a minute opposed to about 5mins on my old HDD / rig; (the bios seems to loop twice).
I haven't had any problems with the firmware, and the only issue i've had was trying to get my head around bios saying "no hard disk detected" to which i reply "yes i know, carry on".
I also forgot the drive bay converter however i fould some selotape in my house and was able to covert a 3.5" bay with ease.
I highly recomend this to anyone who wants windows to be and feel faster.

As for games etc, they certainly seem to load faster, and apps install in mere seconds. I did have to remove wow however as @ 30+ gb it was eating too much space.

OMG!!!

I was very skeptical about getting a SSD but decided to take the plunge and get one. Rang OcuK and asked them there advise on which would be best for me and my needs (Gaming). Brilliant service from them, This drive came with the latest firmware so didn't need to mess about with it, its lightening fast as well, boot times have been cut by more than half I would say. Just make sure you plug in into an inter SATA III controller on your motherboard as I made the mistake of plugging it into a Marvell controller and got bad speeds, but that was soon fixed by changing the SATA port it was plugged into.

Thanks again OcuK, I wouldn't shop any were else for my hardware.

Easy to use

Not sure why people are having problems with this drive, this was the easiest windows install i've ever done.

Set bios to AHCI before putting the windows disk in and the total installation took around 6 minutes. Boot up time is around 30 seconds.

If you're thinking about getting a SSD I would strongly recommend this as excellent value for money - especially considering the ridiculous costs of normal HD's at the moment.

Now I'm considering getting another to use in raid......

Mint

People complain about the firmware and setup. But I bought one recently for 122 bucks, and you cant beat it for the price at the moment. As far as speeds go, I have it with a 6g/b cable and from pressing the on button it loads windows fully in 26 seconds. It took me 10 minutes to install windows 7 64U. I had no problems with installation, it was literally plug and play out of the box, I don't know what other peoples problems were, they must of just been unlucky with an earlier batch. Excellent product easily 5*

Fast but FAFFY.

Sure it's fast, but it was a real PITA to get running correctly.

For speed I would happily give 4 stars, but the nightmare it was to set up brings that down to a 3.

Great performance, but there are some pr

It's crazy fast, like another reviewer, I am using this drive in a SATA 3Gb/s laptop, but the speed is much better than my old Corsair F60 (Built for SATA 3Gb/s).

I would've given it 5 Stars if the drive came stable out-the-box, but it doesn't. I've updated the firmware, enabled AHCI, and everything.

I still cannot put the PC to sleep as waking it causes a BSOD, when starting up, the BIOS will usually boot to OS in a few seconds but randomly the BIOS will say "Detecting AHCI device on Port 0..." and freeze there. Sometimes it'll go in a minute, sometimes it's permanently frozen and I have to do a cold reset. Sometimes the system fails on the Windows 7 logo screen, and at times it will do this repeatedly, without avail. Doing a few cold resets works 50% of the time.

Because of these issues I usually keep the PC on for as long intervals as I can manage, and performance is great, but for the price and reliability, it's not worth it for someone who doesn't know how to fix these issues.

Awesome

This drive if by far the best upgrade I have ever had, everything feels faster now. I'm only using it in sata 3gb as my mobo wont go up to 6gb but you know what... it doesnt matter!

Fantastic service again from overclockers... I really cant fault them or this drive!

Rob 2011-11-13

Fast !

Very fast drive, make sure to enable/install ahci in bios and windows.... using 100mb test load sequential read speeds were 167mb/s (ide mode) and 208mb/s (ahci mode). Great price and great service from OCUK again too, thanks !

Stunning

Simply stunning. Added this to the 2500K gamer bundle and the system is so fast it has to be seen to be believed. Windows is a fast boot but the most impressive is how quick you can get other apps up and running so soon after boot compared to my old HDD.

Note if you are trying to clone an existing Windows 7 boot disk you are likely to get the BootMgr missing message. Update the firmware to 1.25, then clone the disk and it works a treat.

Exellent

My first SSD, since my 1TB HDD failed on me. Very impressed, getting full read and write values. No problems installing, Get it while prices are cheap.

Ideal for gaming rigs

I purchased this drive to improve the overall performance of my AMD quad core gaming PC and I have to say it hasn't disappointed me.

The overall performance of my PC is much better, but I must admit I didn't get the "WOW factor" that many SSD users/upgraders get when they first install their new SSD drive.

However, where I have noticed a considerable improvement is in game loading times. Having been slowly upgrading my PC during the course of 2011 to get ready for the awesomeness that is Battelfield 3, the only thing I didn't do was replace my HDD. Prior to installing the OCZ SSD, I would regularly miss the first 2-3 mins of a new MP round in BF3 due to slow map loading times.

Not any more!

Now, I am halfway the first flag/MCOM station well before the rest of my team mates spawn!

If you're serious about your gaming, or the overall performance of your PC, then look no further. I chose to upgrade to this SSD, rather than upgrading to a new Mobo+CPU and I am so glad that I did.

easy firmware update

its a quick little hard drive once stable needs firmware updated

Marlon 2011-07-20

Incredibly fast

I received this piece of kit the next day GJ OCUK! It is very fast, so fast it skips the welcome screen on windows 7, but the reason i gave it only 3 start is the BSOD issues that so many complain about.

Playing around with settings and firmware solved the problem. However do not be tempted to try everything at once, work step by step and once its stable leave it!

If you have the time to play with a brand new and expensive piece of hardware then go ahead and buy this as when it starts working you will be impressed.
