Great little drive

I picked one of these on offer to supplement my 120GB Vertex 2e boot drive (which I've had for ages). Now I have all my programs on a solid state, and use Steam Mover to put my current favourite games on there to boost load speeds. Such a cheap way to get more from your pc.

Kieron 2012-09-09

30 quid? you gotta be kidding me!

Bought 2 last week and put them in raid0. Instantly increased my Win7 rating to 7.9 for the HDD and giving 515mb / sec write and 552mb / sec read. Insane price which you'd have to be mad to miss.

Nigel White 2011-04-22

In Raid these are MAD

Title says it all.

I'm getting 421MB/S Read
I'm getting 471MB/S Write

show me a 120G drive to match this at

Awesome drive

Use this in my W7 HTPC

Boot time has gone from 1 min plus to <25 second with Media Center, itunes and other apps fully loaded.

System is so much more responsive now due to minimal latency which comes from moving to SSD from a traditional HDD

Desktop at the speed of light

Simply the best upgrade i have ever made.
Added this to my new I7950 based system, it is jaw droppingly quick. i have four external backup drives & one internal for a large mp3 collection, they will all be replaced asap with more Vertex 2 ssd's. The futures here, The futures SSD. Ordered this Wed am, delivered Thurs am. Very well protected by the packing will be useing Overclockers A lot more. Stop hesitating, Buy one, you know your going too.

It Flies!!

Order delivered next day, excellent service as per normal.

The drive is a 2.5" (laptop size), but comes with a mounting bracket to install in a desktop (as I am doing).
I installed a new copy of Win7 and it took about 15 mins.

If you're getting one of these, remember to set your IDE drives to AHCI and not IDE otherwise you won't get the full speed from the drive.
This comes as SATA II, but will run perfectly well on a mobo with SATA I - mine is an old ASUS P5LD2 and it installed with no problems.

Overall, extremely pleased and very impressed. With a stated MTBF of 2,000,000 hours if this runs as expected it will last into the next millenium, although I probably wont!

Together with a RAM upgrade, this is the single best thing you can do to speed up your PC. Apps open in an instant and everything just works so damn quickly!

Nice Drive!

A fast drive, have only had it a day so havent got much to say about reliability yet. The OCZ RAM that I got at the same time is faulty though.

Wish I could've afforded a bigger drive. I have a lot of software to install and I'm expecting it to be a very tight squeeze.

"Clean install of Windows 7 took up 22gigs"???? How did you manage that? I did a clean install of Windows 7 64 and it was just over 10GB. I've never heard of a windows install being near 20GB.

Paul 2011-01-24

Performance upgrade you can't miss!

Trying to boost a flagging XP based system, I have opted for this drive.

Its not running optimally as XP does not really support it properly, that said, the performance is superb.

Formatting the disk for example, whilst installing XP. The "Regular" format is quicker than "Quick Format" using a normal mechanical drive!

Seriously consider a higher capacity, XP, a few (large) games and thats your lot.

On the other hand, for me, its superb. I have everything else installed on mechanical drives in the PC, the OS, BFBC2, FSX, BF2 live on the SSD.

I have about 9GB left!

So think about getting as high a capacity as your pocket will allow but make no mistake, you won't be dissapointed with this drive.

The best Ballpark

Great upgrade

Easily the quicket way to boost overall performance of your computer. I have one of these as my C drive and a 2TB non-ssd hard drive as my D drive. Blistering launching of apps. Peformance is even better thna I thought it would be. Be warned though 60gb doesn't go far. Clean install of Windows 7 took up 22gigs..

Richard 2011-01-18

As it says!

Figure I can add a good review in the interest of diversity. Arrived yesterday and was installed with no problems into my Macbook Pro, so I am actually running this drive under OS X. Very good practical results, power on to desktop in eleven seconds, obtaining full 3Gbps link speed. Benchmarks showed a practical performance speed of over 2x that of my old 250GB 5400rpm Hitachi drive. And with the Sandforce controller, a great buy. It even came with a satirical sticker and a desktop mounting adapter! If you are looking for an SSD for your mac that gives good performance and aren't willing to pay the higher prices for Apples older SSD options then this is for you!

vertex 2

I was looking for something to speed up my sluggish computer and this is the ticket. After reinstalling my favourite operating system win 7 which did not take long this hard drive flies. Boot times are in the seconds and apps launch in the blink of an eye multiple apps on screen withour hanging.

An excellent purchase and I may buy another for raid, better with ahci also and turn off defrag/superfetch/indexing/etc.

It's like the tiny gun from Men In Black

If you're upgrading at this time, an SSD should be top of your list. This beauty is the best you'll get in terms of cost/speed right now, runs perfect as your OS and application partition. My boot time (measured from login to idle) for Win7 has dropped from three minutes to twelve seconds, and any program I can throw at it opens before the Enter key has returned to its normal position.

Just got this incredibly fast ssd drive from Overclockers UK today. Firmware was 1.23 and flashed immediatley to 1.24. It is running very good on my maximus extreme x38 mobo. Not a single issue so far! Windows 7 WEI score is 7.7! This is my first ssd and was without words on how fast
windows 7 installed from my corsair usb pendrive! Boot times are almost under 10seconds on my machine! holy crap! I wonder what happens if I get another one to setup in raid 0. I am very happy with this OCZ SSD! it is a sandforce based ssd and OCZ seem to have the best relationship with sandforce.
OCZ latest firmware 1.24 is very good! This is the biggest/best/noticeable upgrade I ever made in years! Finally i have 0.1ms seek time bye bye to my 3x wd caviar blacks! SSD is the way to go..no more mechanical harddisks that are more prone to failure! Thank you Overclockers UK for the fast shipping!

Massive Improvement Over Raptor

I bought this drive 2 weeks ago as replacement for my 150gb raptor boot drive. The difference in just everyday use is massive, apps open in less than half the time, games take only a few seconds to load and even web pages open instantly. This is the best performance upgrade you can get for the money, and what a bargain at

Paul 2010-11-20

The biz

Awsome drives. I've only just ordered them so they'v not been delivered yet but I know by the sustained writes these drives have that they're gonna be fast. I've just got two to start with will buy a 3rd in 3 months slowly incresing the speed cappacity buying more over the years up to 480GB, which is better than buying single a 480GB HD because of the advantages of Raid.

Brilliant, been waiting for 4 years for the price to come down enough for these to look an attractive buy and now came the time.

Greg 2010-11-17

best for c:

rly lov it , after 15 years change normal hdd to sdd its like drive a ferrari :)

michael 2010-10-25

Fast but nothing special

I am use to running 2x sata II raid 0 for the past few years on an ich9r & ich10r

i bought one of these for my main drive [os] and it does seem quicker when loading the OS & playing games but nothing special using winrar, quickpar & transferring files

i would say if your looking to buy one and you mainly browse the web, load up office, open emails then go for it but for the heavy duty downloading, winrar, quickpar, and application installs then stick to your Sata 2 3.5' drives for the time being

I really dont believe the loss of capacity and performance in some areas is worth the sacrifice or cost atm

Gorebrush Tripwood 2010-10-14

I already have two of these disks in RAID-0 which is yielding 500MB/s read/writes, and I've just decided to order a 3rd given the amazing price they are up for today.

I am looking forward to a boot drive of 180Gb with read/writes into the 750MB/s

Can't wait. Top job OCUK

Johnnie 2010-10-09

Tested on Rampage III Extreme + i7 950 3.06 GHz + 6GB Ram Corsair 8-9-8-24 2000 MHz.

Windows are faster also extracting files (winRAR) are much more faster but it never writes or reads more than 150mb/sec :-(

Ross Walters 2010-10-05

Sweet mother of god

I knew it'd be fast, but oh my. Probably one of the best upgrades i've ever had, moved from my Velociraptor to this, such speed!
Best performance upgrade for the price, even better with Overclockers' nice prices.

Huw Sharpe 2010-09-19

Mine scores 7.5 on the windows index and benchmarks at 260/212. I notice that people seem to report various speed which can obviously be down to the benchmarking software, but i imagine most will be using the ocz bench32. Anyone know why we see this variance? With windows index score varying from 7.2 to 7.7? I guess its probably the mobo, but just curious. Id like to see mine at the full advertised speeds. Not complaining like, replaced my raptors with one of these tiny drives.

Qazax 2010-08-30

I picked up two of these and had high hopes after coming from an original OCZ solid series which had many stuttering issues and caused windows to occasionally hang for about two seconds while i was in the middle of something.

a RAID 0 of two of these beasts can pull just over 500mb/sec in some benchmarks and is ridiculous. if you want speed, get two of these.

David 2010-08-29

Wow! That's all I can say!!

Upgraded from an OCZ Summit SSD to this after reading so many reviews on SSD's using the SandForce controller.

I cloned my previous SSD onto this one, employed the registry modification to enable AHCI and can immediately see an improvement after a reboot; no insanely fast, but noticable on load times and shut down times.

For a price like this, it's practically a steal considering I purchased the aforementioned product for around

Neil 2010-08-26

Stuck this in Zotac ZBOX HD-ID11 mini-PC, brilliant.

Oliver 2010-08-21

Practically plug and play. Drive came with a 3.5 adaptor, but it looks like you could just blue tack it to the side of your case should you want to!

Exceptionally fast, I'm getting 240+ on read speeds and 229 random seek/write, which is impeccable. Windows gives the drive 7.7 on the Windows Index.

I had my doubts, but it really was a simple matter of installing (don't worry about firmware, it's up to date) and having a look at all the little tweaks out there on the net, some better than others

Go for it!

Richard Todhunter 2010-08-20

What a beast!

This SSD is simply awesome. It comes with the latest firmware so it's 'out of the box hassle free'.

I'd recommend rebuilding from scratch if you're using this for your OS. This way you can enable ACHI in the bios without having to do the registry hack, plus it only took me 10 minutes to install Windows 7.

Window's boots up and shuts down in about 10-20 seconds. Read and Write speeds average around 260m/s.

Overall I am very happy with the product. If I could afford it, I'd buy another and whack it into RAID 0.

Patrick 2010-08-10

Easy to set up, very fast, great value, great reputation. leaves mechanical HDDs in the dust! if you dont own an ssd, get one!

Greg 2010-08-06

Also has this drive couple of weeks now, very please with it. Works fine on a 680i board, get not far from max speeds when i bench with attos. Loading times are much quicker for os and progs, win 7 shut down about 5 secs. Pleased enough I am considering a 2nd one for the wife's PC.

Robert 2010-08-02

I've bought this drive for my laptop and used it for about a month now. I have to admit, I was in doubt about purchasing an SSD before. I was wrong! This product is a turn-point in computing! Windows 7 will load in 10 secconds at fresh install and under 15 secconds with startup programs. The overall price-quality ratio is more than enough to justify the use of these devices in both desktop and portable computers. As a bonus, now I can keep my hand on the left side of my laptop, where the SSD is mounted, is barely warm, as opposite to my old HDD @ 7200rpm wich was both hot and noisy. The win.7 instalation takes less than 14 min almost as fast as restoring an image backup! 5 stars for OCZ performance and OCUK's excellent price!

Dean Stelfox 2010-08-02

Just installed my drive over the weekend. You need to select ACHI in your BIOS rather than IDE to get the best performance. You should do this before you install Windows 7 though. If you install Windows under IDE you will need to edit the registry to change IDE to ACHI otherwise Windows will crash on start up. This is all very easy though and covered on the excellent OCZ forums.

In summary, the best upgrade I have ever performed. I just wish I bought the larger drive now.

Samarlian 2010-08-01

Best Upgrade

Lightning fast wipes the floor with my 2 x Velociraptors in Raid0. Well worth every penny spent installed W7 and Antivirus along with BFBC2 and all other drivers i required and still 29Gb left. Also W7 10 seconds start, shut down 2 seconds! Its the best

James R 2010-07-20

Jake 2010-07-19

Perfect Drive

windows 7 10 seconds start, shut down 2 seconds!HD Tune: Write speed 270mb/s!! Read Speed 280mb/s!! Perfect drive for Windows!

Aquanox 2010-07-17

This is my second SSD, running on windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. This SSD drive is much much faster than my previous SSD. I think the key word is responsive. It has high-end server like reaction qualities. At the 4k level is where the true value lies in this drive, and they are dropping in price. Get one, you will not be disappointed. The best upgrade you can give you computer for

Sy 2010-07-10

Absolutely rapid, picked this one as it has fast write speeds too. Use it for work win 7 and adobe creative suite. Photoshop/illustrator etc
open at warp speed, no more waiting around. 60gb is easy to fill though.

Get one! heck get two if you can afford to.

Xenios Christofi 2010-06-04

Worth it

Bought two of these and tested both on two different systems. This drive is worth every penny, while it's more expensive at the moment just look at its specs its 4x faster than the others it also has trim support on windows 7 but its lighting fast.
