As gaming grows ever more sophisticated, the memory and graphics capacity required grows with it; the processing demands on your PC escalate at an equal rate. If you're looking to run the latest Gears of War or Mafia release, you may need to buy more DDR 3 RAM to ensure that the gameplay remains as smooth as you're used to. At Overclockers UK we stock a wide range of DDR3 RAM from trailblazers within the memory manufacturing industry including, but not limited to, Corsair; Kingston; Avexir; Crucial; G.Skill; and Teamgroup. If your computer supports DDR3 memory then it’s important to ensure that you have adequate capacity to support your latest games and software. At Overclockers UK we are dedicated to providing the latest upgrades in DDR3 RAM as well as other hardware and software solutions.
DDR3 memory (double data rate type three memory) is a synchronous dynamic random-access memory that has been used since 2007. It is the upgraded iteration and a higher-speed successor to DDR and DDR2 RAM. DDR memory was the answer to the limitations of previous memory technologies—mainly SDRAM, or synchronous dynamic random access memory—and allowed information to move almost twice as quickly as SDRAM. As technology developed, DDR soon became obsolete and DDR2 emerged. This was followed by DDR3 memory, and now DDR4 RAM. You should keep in mind that DDR3 RAM is not backwards compatible, and so it is not possible to use it with older legacy systems. The differences between DDR3 memory and its predecessors are found within its signalling voltages, timings, as well as data transfer rates. The primary benefit of upgrading to DDR3 RAM is that it can transfer data at twice the rate over its immediate predecessor. This enables higher bandwidth rates and, with a memory clock frequency of 100 megahertz, a maximum transfer rate of 6400 MB/s.
This isn't as straightforward as it may seem, and with such a wide range of options on offer, many people struggle to find the right fit. Shopping for computer hardware is generally quite easy, even if you're building a custom PC, but understanding how much RAM you need is a different matter. And to answer this question you will have to know exactly what you intend to use your computer for. Gamers and developers will generally need a surplus—16GB or more—of DDR3 RAM in order to meet the demands of the high-processing software they will be using. However, if you prefer to use your computer for general office-related tasks or simply watching films, then 8GB of DDR3 memory should be enough.
