X299 Motherboards (LGA 2066)

X299 Motherboards

X299 Motherboard

Motherboards that utilise the 2066 socket and X299 chipset are designed for Intel's Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors. The 2066 socket replaces the aging 2011 V3 as the processor socket for Intel's high-end consumer segment.

Also referred to as LGA 2066, the 2066 socket provides the perfect platform for enthusiast gaming PCs and high-performance workstation PCs. Motherboards with the X299 chipset / 2066 socket offer great connectivity and allow the overclocking of Intel CPUs with an unlocked multiplier.

Socket 2066 motherboards with Intel's X299 chipset

Socket 2066 motherboards with the X299 chipset serve as a performance platform for high-end Intel Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors. The X299 chipset, codenamed "Lewisburg," proves to be a true all-rounder with up to 30 HSIO lanes (high speed input / output) and a maximum 24 PCIe Express 3.0 lanes.

Here is a brief overview of the maximum possible I / O connections:

  • Up to 10 USB 3.0 ports
  • Up to 14 USB 3.2 ports
  • Up to 8 SATA-6G connections
  • Possible raid modes: 0, 1, 5, 10

X299 motherboards support quad-channel 2666 Mhz memory and typically allow both automatic and manual overclocking of the RAM. Another benefit of the new enthusiast platform is the increased M.2 slots supporting the latest NVMe SSDs. For simultaneous use of multiple NVME SSDs, the X299 chipset provides 24 PCIe 3.0 lanes.

Socket 2066 motherboards and Intel's Skylake X CPUs & Kaby Lake X CPUs

Skylake X CPUs

Core i9 X sereis CPUThe socket 2066 and X299 chipset forms the perfect basis for Intel's extreme CPUs from the Skylake X with up to 18 cores. The Intel Core i9 and Core i7 CPUs are perfect for not only enthusiast gamers but also for content creators. Multi-GPU setups with up to three high-end graphics cards are possible and provide the ultimate combination for 4K gaming and Virtual Reality (VR) gaming. The high number of cores is also ideal for video rendering.

Kaby Lake X CPUs

KabyLake X processors have fewer cores than SkyLake X processors, but have a much higher CPU clock. Kaby Lake X CPUs are particularly overclockable on the Socket 2066 platform and many games benefit from the higher CPU clock speed.
