Intel's new memory solution!
In recent years there has been significant innovations in storage technology. From large HDDs to the development of extremely fast SSDs, it may seem that there is little room left for improvement. However with their new Optane technology Intel have taken storage to the next level.
With Optane, Intel have combined factors such as memory density, speed and non-volatility to make the next generation in memory. As a result, Optane memory acts as a hybrid of RAM and traditional storage media.
The key innovation with Optane memory is that it makes use of a 3D XPoint Memory system. This technology means that data can be stored in a transistorless unit, which improves efficiency and keeps costs low.
Prefect for gamers and content creators
One feature that makes Optane effective for both games and content creation is that it can store frequently used data. For instance, gamers tend to only play a few of their entire collection at one time. The more frequently used data can then be store in the Optane memory making access time significantly better. This means that when Optane memory is paired with a traditional HDD access speeds close to those of SSDs can be achieve.
This is great for gamers, or other users, who would like to store large amounts of data on relatively inexpensive and large HDDs but still have the speed benefits of using SSDs.
