mSATA SSDs / Solid State Drives
Differing in form-factor to 2.5” inch SATA drives, mSATA uses a far smaller form factor while still delivering the same performance. This type of drive requires a direct connection to an mSATA port on the motherboard and is also featured in a variety of laptops. mSATA drives are ideal gamers and productivity users, delivering a noticeable performance improvement over regular HDDs.
As the mSATA uses a smaller form-factor, the benefits over standard 2.5” SSDs extend to lower power consumption and increased resistance to shock and vibration. These two features give way for thinner laptops with improved battery life and greater quantities of storage. As the mSATA drive is based on the SATA interface, the performance offered by the drive is similar to that of a SATA SSD. This allows for read and write speeds upto 600MB/s peak.
This allows for system boot times being significantly reduced, averaging around 15 seconds, along with instant loading of applications and games, system stability is drastically improved.
As with all SSD based storage solutions, mSATA doesn’t contain any moving parts, this means quiet operation and increased longevity.
