Razer Ornata V3 Mecha Membrane Keyboard

Here at Overclockers UK, you’re sure to find an amazing keyboard suited to almost any application, including gaming and office work. Our range of keyboards offer excellent ergonomics and outstanding durability, meaning you can use them for longer. Choosing the right keyboard is imperative, as it’ll be the peripheral you interact with the most. Keyboards come in a variety of types, including membrane, mem-chanical, and mechanical. Furthermore, our range offers different features, such as customisable keycaps, wired or wireless models, and even RGB lighting.

What types of keyboards are available?

Keyboards primarily fit into three main categories, denoted by the types of switches they utilise. The three main categories are:

  • Membrane - The membrane keyboard utilises pressure pads to register when a key is pressed. When actuated, these pressure pads complete the circuit which in turn sends a signal to your computer with every keystroke. The advantages of a membrane keyboard are that they are inexpensive, highly portable, and resistant to dirt and liquid spills.
  • Mem-chanical - A mem-chanical keyboard is the halfway point between a full mechanical and membrane keyboard. They still utilise the pressure pad membrane system, but add spring loaded keys. A signal is still sent to your PC when the pad is depressed by the key, but thanks to the spring-loaded keys they feel closer to a mechanical model.
  • Mechanical - With a mechanical keyboard, when you depress the key, two electrical contacts meet. After you’ve finished the keystroke, a spring quickly returns the key to its original position. Many varieties of switches are available, including linear, tactile, and clicky. Each of these offers different feedback. Mechanical keyboards provide a greater response time and durability, when compared to a keyboard that uses any type of membrane switch.

Alongside these differences, many keyboards offer an array of features. These can include media controls, allowing you to pause, skip, or even stop media played on your PC. Furthermore, there are a variety of choices to consider for connectivity, such as built-in cables, detachable cables, and wireless. Aesthetics are key, as there are an immense number of options when it comes to the style of a keyboard. You need to take shape, size, colours, layouts, and even RGB lighting into consideration when choosing your perfect keyboard.
