The Phanteks Evolv X in detail:

The Phanteks Evolv X is a stylish Mid-Tower case that can hold up to an E-ATX motherboard. It has multiple sophisticated features for those who are passionate about hardware. For example, with the appropriate bracket and Phanteks power supply, an ITX motherboard can be mounted to the roof of the Evolv X. This makes the case ideal for complex tasks that require dual systems such as server management and live streaming.

An eye-catching case made from high quality materials

With the Evolv X, Phanteks have created a visually impressive case for enthusiasts. They have achieved this by combining premium materials, such as sandblasted aluminium and powder coated steel, with well thought out design elements.

The case features two tempered glass side panels which allows users to display the core build components. The side panels can also be easily attached and removed via an ingenious magnetic hinge system that suspends the panels securely in place. Aluminium handles on both side panels allow you to open them without any unsightly fingerprints. They can even be secured behind the front panel using thumbscrews, which is ideal for LAN events & transporting your system.

In addition, the case has a distinct front panel featuring rugged styling and excellent thermal properties. A 30mm clearance between the front panel and chassis ensure great airflow, which is further enhanced by the front panel's large surface area and mesh sections to prevent dust entry. The top panel features mesh vents on both sides, and an airflow cover is supplied to prevent air recirculation when the top exhaust area is not fully occupied. This adds up to a significantly better airflow experience than the original Evolv ATX Glass edition.

Outstanding cooling options

The Phanteks Evolv X has excellent cooling properties whether you prefer air or water cooling.

Overall the case can accept a total of seven 120mm fans, three in the front, three on top and one at the back. Alternatively it can hold up to six 140mm fans with three in the front, two on top and one at the back.

If watercooling is more your thing, the case can accommodate a 360mm on top, up to a 360mm on the front and a 120mm in the back. Alternatively for 140mm it can hold up to 420mm in the front, up to 280mm on top and 140mm in the back. Phanteks have also integrated convenient fill and drain ports.

A Universal fan hub has been include which lets you to control all the fans within the case and Phanteks have even bundled three 140mm Phanteks Premium fans, which are based on the MP model.

Extensive storage and connectivity solutions

A striking feature of the Phanteks Evolv X is that it is capable of holding up to 9 SSD and 10 HDDs. 6 x SSD and 4 x HDD mounts are included as standard. Not only that, they can be discreetly tucked away into panels that fold out from the case's right side. There are additional panels that are tool-lessly mounted inside the case to conceal unsightly cables, along with dual lane cable routing options and sliding covers at the front side of the Evolv X, ensuring a clean system with minimal effort.

RGB Illumination is great as you would come to expect from Phanteks. There are a pair of digital RGB strips on the front panel featuring wireless connectivity, meaning the front panel can be removed without any cables needing to be disconnected. There is also a digital RGB light strip featured on the PSU shroud. Coming with compatibility for both Asus's Aura Sync and MSI's Mystic Light Sync, the case also has I/O panel that includes a USB 3.1 Type-C port, two USB 3.0 power button, audio jacks, and buttons to switch between illumination settings. There is even a GPU anti-sag bracket included to keep your VGA card straight without spoiling the clean aesthetics of your build.

Great case

by Gordon Wishart star star star star star

Upgraded from a Fractal Design Define 7, and really enjoying the new case. Much more space, easier to work in, and feels absolutely rock solid. Integrated fan and RGB hubs are excellent, and there seems to be much less fan noise, even comparing with the sound-proofed Define 7. One major issue with the Define 7 is lack of space above the motherboard for 280mm AiO - the AiO overhangs the DIMM slots, limiting the height of DIMMs you can install to low-profile DIMMs only, with no RGB - no such issues here, tons of space for the AiO with no obstruction. Added a Phanteks Helos RGB cover for the rear fan, which works great with the integrated RGB hub - this was a great help for me, as my motherboard (Z270 Gaming 8) only has old-style 12V RGB headers, not the 5V headers most modern RGB products use. Going to order more of the Helos kits - they're a great way of adding RGB to any existing monochrome fans. Build was quick and relatively painless, the only (minor) issues relate to tidy cabling in the visible front area. The routing slot on the PSU shroud struggled with 3x PCIe extension cables, and the movable panels beside the motherboard don't allow the bulky ATX PSU wires to route exactly horizontally, which looks a bit messy, as you have to open 2 panel covers. On the whole though, there's a lot of space for cabling, and the clever hinged panels on the rear of the case allow you to hide everything at the back pretty well. There are cheaper cases with most of these features, but the Evolv gives you fan and RGB hubs, 3 excellent Phanteks 140mm fans, a vertical GPU bracket and a GPU anti-sag bracket, so when you compare the costs of adding any of those to cheaper cases, there's not much in it.

Overall a Great case in the current premium case market, though not without some subjective shortfalls

by Jake Mitch star_border star star star star

This might be a premium price for a case but you can be assured that for that price you are getting a case that includes a thick metal chasey, 3 140mm fans for more than ample airflow even with a filter & front metal panel, along with a subtle amount of RGB everyone can enjoy (you can always disable it and still enjoy the case by itself). I cant talk too much regarding space as I dont have 2 systems within the case, or a large custom water filter, or even an e-atx motherboard, but I can say it is very spacious, in all honesty I couldve got a smaller case, though I do like my components to not be squished together. As for cable management in this case, it is amazing, a dream for even the most novice of pc builders (lazy cable managers I see you just throwing the cables in there with no care, and just slapping up them metal cover panels and calling yourself a pro cable manager). Though with most things there are the shortfalls in a product, this products problem is subjective I guess some would say, but in my opinion there are 3 areas where this case is rather tacky in its design/ look, first being the 4 plastic back panels rather than the traditional rubber cable holes as they are really hard to get some cables underneath them to get uniform straight line of the 4 panels without showing the gap where all the cables are (main of which is the 24 pin motherboard cable, and any usb 3 cables for the front IO, with some good force and work you can get the 24 pin to an acceptable level but traditional rubber holes would be far easier, though the worst being the USB3 cables for front IO, which shows lack of thought behind the design as you can either heavily bend the cable underneath the plastic panel which Im personally not comfortable doing or you can have the USB cable laying over the top of the panel when plugged in which is far from visually appealing). The second being the plastic panel over where the water filter would go, its really flimsy even with the 2 magnets to hold it in place (I currently have something underneath it just to hold it up in place). Third is the plastic graphics card cable sliding panel, it just sticks out like a sore thumb really weird design, I get what they are trying to do but it doesnt work at all visually (also leaves a very slight gap where you can see underneath it). Overall I feel this is a really solid case with a lot of thought that has go into most of its design, and offers a lot of unique useful features which make you really love this case, from its metal/ glass opening panels (giving you easy access to your components), to metal panels to hide your dodgy cable management, its just a shame that there are just a few little design implementation errors (In my personal opinion), that take this PC from a 10 out of 10 to more like a 8/9 out of 10, though in the current market with its unique features set its hard not to recommend this case even with is subjective problems, perhaps in the future when these features are less unique my opinion may differ but for now I dont see any cases with the same quality, and features that I got with this case currently for less than the 199 I paid for this monitor (of which came with free RGB KIT).

A triumph

by Mark Connor star star star star star

I had reallyhigh expectations of this case. I saw the copmputex videos, but how often do things look great at shpws and then get messed up for production? Not this time.I came from an NZXT S340 Elite and before that the original Cosmos S. I was so tempted to go for the H700i, but it didn't have USB Type-C, which is just not acceptable in late 2018. I waited and waited for this, and I'm so glad I did.My build has an ASUS 1080Ti Poseidon (which really doesn't like being mounted horizontally, so I sent for the vertical cable as well), the EK 360 PE rad up top and 3x Noctua 140s in the front. It's not tight, there's just the right amount of room free. At first I had my doubts about the interior temperatures, but sealing off the holes in the rad plate up top immidiately fixed it. If you don't do that, too much hot air recirculates back in. There were a lot of worries about breathing on this. In my view, it breathes fine, but does suffer from that recirculation issue. You can fix that with a roll of insulating tape, so it's no biggie. The finish of the aluminium panels is superb. The attention to detail in the flexibility of the space shows that somebody spent a long time making sure the design was just perfect.Mine did have a slight misalignment of the front panel. I contacted Phanteks who have sent me out a couple of replacement bits that should sort it. That's great service. Thanks Phanteks, it'll take me a while to want to change from this.
