Radeon R9 390 PCS+ 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (AXR9 390 8GBD5-PPDHE)

AMD Radeon R9 390 and above are VR Ready, virtual reality headsets such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are game changers in the way we play games. Valves SteamVR benchmark is the best way to test if your current PC is VR ready, ideally you need a score of 7+ and a 390/390X tend to score 7-8 which means they meet the minimum specification for virtual reality. VR will change how we play games as titles such as Elite Dangerous are out of this world when experienced in VR and with upcoming titles such as Portal 3, Half Life 3, Doom the future looks very exciting for PC gaming and AMD is ready with Liquid VR.

The 390 series from AMD offer great future proofing for upcoming game titles such as Star Wars Battlefront, DOOM, Half Life 3 and Fall Out 4. Featuring DirectX 12 support and 8GB of memory makes the 390 series great for current and future games at resolutions upto 4k.

The AMD R9 390 8GB features the latest GCN (graphics core next) architecture from AMD with 2560 stream processing units and an enhanced engine clock of up to 1010Mhz. It is equipped with 8GB of the latest high performance GDDR5 memory on a 512-bit interface and now clocked at 1500 MHz (6GHz effective) delivering higher bandwidth than earlier models.

Bought this card after extensive research and having a bad experience with the MSI equivalent (not purchased here) Played everything on ultra or very high!! BF4 Shadow of Mordor, CS:GO It hasn't struggled with anything i have thrown at it!!

Shame its not available anymore I would happily buy another for SLI

Brilliant card

Had a faulty card turn up that caused nothing but pixleated screens, phoned overclockers and they replaced it quickly and without hassle. I've now got a working card which is simply fantastic value for money, runs anything I throw at it at good temps and with little noise.

Great Purchase

Before buying this card I have done a very extensive research in order to decide which card is suitable for me. Secretly, we all would like to have the most expensive top of the range most powerful cards. But think about it, what is the point? Not even a year ago the r9 290x was £330 and now with this card costing less and you get more performance. Point is technology runs and if you consider that at some point this year AMD is bringing out the Arctic Islands chip then there is really no reason to go for the most expensive.

For the specific card; Same as the previous reviewer I never owned a PowerColor card. I stuck to the more famous ones i.e. MSI, Gigabite etc. What PowerColor put together here is better than all of those famous brands own versions of the r390. The built quality is apparent and it is really quiet until the fans decide to give a burst of air briefly and then back to quiet.
I have watercooling on the CPU with Noctua fans which are really silent and I have one fan cooling the HDDs which is again Noctua very silent fan. My PSU is absolutely silent (check OC Leadex 1200w Platinum 80+). Point is, I barely hear anything and after installing this GPU I still can barely hear anything and thats how silent this card is.

Most of all I can detect absolutely ZERO coil whine which is a major plus to me.

This card is probably underrated or unappreciated. It is a really solid built and for the cost a winner.

Fantastic Purchase

First up, Delivery... DPD were just not on the ball, but OCUK were there to help through-out which was great.

Now to the good stuff:

Powercolor isn't a brand I was familiar with at all, I'm coming from Team Green to Team Red and this was my first purchase, and also first time purchase on OCUK. First impressions where sheer shock... I've never seen a card to big (29cm for you guys that need to know), its three slot design and build quality are second to none. Luckily I have enough room in my ATX case for this. I also have an arm that holds the card in place to prevent any bending.

Performance wise, fantastic, i wanted to see what this Coil whine and fan noise was all about. Il be brutally honest with you.. if you have a graphics card like this set to 100% fan speed.. you're gonna have a bad time.. it will lift your machine from the floor so strap it down. It can be loud at those ranges, but honestly if your like me and just casually game and no overclock and just want the advantage of having a high end card. Set the fan speed to around 35-40 and you wont be hearing it.. Im not a noise snob either as i dont hear or understand what half the people who review cards like this, say when they go on about the noise of fans. Its perfectly fine.

However i did hear the coil whine.. To fix this i just prevented any old titles form going above 60FPS (one game had me at 200FPS, it was very noticeable). I think however i may have some driver issues as one of my old games just will not play properly at all, My old GTX 750TI played it completely fine, and in fullscreen but now i get this screen with two black blocks either side.. only with this game so il have to figure it out.

All in all, FPS in the AAA titles is consistent for me. Sticking around 60-80FPS (I'm not very demanding but I do love attention to detail) this card for me tackles all of my previous issues with my old card. So much so that I don't feel the need to go for that cutting edge AA/MSAA/SMAA/FXAA or whatever.. it auto sets to ultra and i get seamless gaming.

Next step: Dual monitors.

In Closing, Thanks to OCUK for keeping me up to date with DPD, going from a two day delivery to 3-4 isn't such a big issue for most but it was for me considering I've been wanting a decent graphics card for so long.. I had the itch, so Send my apologies to the guys i spoke to on the phone.. they were fantastic!

Loved my Haribo!

Cant wait to play Hitman!

Much Love OCUK!

So far so good.

Simply excellent.

I was skeptical at 1st because not only have I never owned an AMD GPU in the last 20 years I've also not heard much about Powercolor either but after the recent fiasco over dx12 and constant game crashes with Nvidia game ready drivers I lost faith in them and decided the r9 390 was my next upgrade ( a much needed one the gtx 660 was starting to show its age).
Unfortunately I didn't get to enjoy my free tangfastics as the kids spotted them as soon as I opened the box but it was a nice thought so TY OCUK how ever that was soon forgot about once I had the card installed and running.

It's not loud unless the fans ramp up to max but I solved this with having them at 40% constant with afterburner, so far card has not gone above 63c under load which is more than comfortable.

ARK survival evolved epic settings no tweaking, max res scale etc etc 35-45 fps albeit very very smooth something anyone who has played this game would agree is an achievement on its own.

Rainbow 6 Siege maxed settings 130-160fps without breaking a sweat.

Very pleased with my purchase so far, great card for a great price.

simply amazing

First off I would like to thank ocuk for another trouble free amazing service coming from a r9 290 which thought it was normal to game at 95 degrees I'm glad I was sat down when I tested this thing fans don't even come on till card goes to 60 degrees I have never seen this card above 64 degrees without creating a fan profile I'm playing tomb raider rise of the tomb maxed out 2560x1080 hitting between 45-70 fps even when overclocked to the max stable 71 was highest point on a 2 hour burn in test with furmark I was able to acheve 1100 clock and 1675 mem speed without the need for voltage adjustment at £259 an absolute bargain power consumption was 244 wat stock and 314 when overclocked
