Kova Ultra-Light Gaming Mouse

It doesn’t matter whether you’re left or right handed, you use a PC or a Mac, or you’re a fan of red, blue or green – the ROCCAT™ Kova satisfies any wish; and it does all that without you needing to install additional drivers. With this component of the ROCCAT™ SDMS, another foundation stone has been laid for feature-packed, efficient gaming.
As part of the ROCCAT SDMS, the Kova has been fine-tuned for pure performance. The mouse can be configured just by pressing simple button combinations - and all without the need for drivers. For instance, the dpi resolution can be increased from 400 to 800, 1600 or even 3200dpi without needing to go through the tedious process of configuring the software - and it's just as easy to switch between right and left handed mode. The 5 (+2) mouse buttons come preset with the most important functions for all the latest games and applications.
The ROCCAT Kova features a customizable lighting system which can be adjusted to suit at the press of a button. You decide which color the mouse should light up in. The discrete LEDs on the sides of the mouse will cast an atmospheric aura on your desktop, particularly when you set them to pulse slowly.
The LEDs also indicate the dpi setting you've selected with the help of the dpi-change feedback system. The default resolution is 800dpi. By simultaneously pressing mouse buttons 5 and 7, the mouse will flash green twice, indicating that the dpi setting has now been changed to 1600dpi. Change the resolution again and the mouse will flash blue twice and the resolution will increase to 3200dpi.

Average gaming mouse

Ok, so this mouse is fairly average as far as gaming mice go. Yes it is light and does feel plasticy and cheap but this does make it quick and easy to use.

For me the worst thing was that it conflicts with my Razer Arctosa in Windows 7 Ultimate 64! If you start the PC with the KB and mouse connected the mouse will fail to start, this means that you have to start the PC with the KB disconnected then connect it once Windows has loaded. I contacted Roccat Customer Services..... who at first glance sounded helpful but will deny that there is any problem with this mouse (do some net research and you will find otherwise), they also got quite rude and aggressive with me!

The mouse itself gets a 3/4, Roccat Customer Services get 1. That's why I gave it an overall of 2.

Decent, but room for improvement.

I bought the Roccat Kova soon after my Razer Diamondback broke, after a good 4 years of service.

The first thing I noticed when unpacking was that it felt very light and flimsy, unlike the Razer - This came to prove itself just 3 months later when it fell about 3 feet from my desk, and shattered (The Razer survived this countless times). Also the DPI settings felt very restrictive with only 4 options - Sluggish, Slow, Normal, and Too Fast - Again, Razer trumps with a greater choice of DPI settings to suit your needs.

The size/shape's good though if you have fairly long fingers, all buttons are easy to reach and use, and being symmetrical it doesn't matter which hand you use.

If it had been built a little stronger and had offered more DPI choices, this would be a pretty awesome mouse. Unfortunately, it hadn't.

Some faults

Can't fault OCUK for service, yet again fantastic.

The mouse arrived and is ok as long as you have long fingers, however for someone like me with short fingers your third finger uncomfartably rests on the sharp edge of buttons 6 + 7 which quickly causes redness and blistering after prolonged use.

Apart from that it worked fine.

Nice mouse, shame about win7 support

The mouse is great to use, light and quick.
But, be warned, if you try and use this in windows 7 you may struggle to get it to function. The lights come on but that's about all it does.

However is cancel the auto install of the drivers and use the "HID Compliant Mouse" drivers instead you will get a functioning mouse. It took a while to work this out. It seems to be a fatal flaw in the mouse's compatibilty with common OS's.

Maybe one day a firmware update will fix this problem and then 5 stars might be appropriate.

Excellent Mouse

Not quite as light as the on-box advertising might suggest but its still a very nimble thing. Very precise movements, vertical to lateral G movements at high speed are completely uncompromised, especially if you're using a good mouse mat. Buttons are nice and clicky, the scroll wheel has a reassuring robustness to it and the side grips give you much needed purchase when playing quick paced FPS's. The SDMS system by Roccat also ensures hassle free installation, this mouse is essentially plug and play and ready to go in 5 seconds flat; no third party software required. My only gripe (but not worthy of knocking a star off) is if you're wanting to change the DPI you have to execute a very unnatural combination of clicks from the side buttons which can really slow you down at those crucial points in the game. The same can be said for changing the lighting arrangement around the mouse, however that is a little less important. All in all, an excellent mouse worthy of your money.

After a couple of weeks

starting to get weird noises from the right click. Its like you have to press it down twice, you only notice this when you put your mind to it. when your playing games you dont notice it a all. The bottom of the mouse feels like its about to come off, when i rest my hand on it squeaks and crunchs like badly made plastic. Then again my dad doesn't know how to use a mouse properly. he rests his hole hand on top of the mouse and doesn't go with the grove of the mouse..thats probably whats caused this. Just thought id give you a word of warning. Dont put a lot of pressure on this mouse! its VERY fragile!! scroll, all the buttons, left click all seems perfectly healthy and they get the most punishment!!

great mouse

6/5, exceeded my expectations. I expected this to be a bit bigger than my logitech mx 400. But its smaller!!! and looks better.
As soon as i took it out the packet i was like "OMG". As for being a "ultra light" mouse. Its a bit heavier than my mx400. But thats not a complaint. Its got some weight to it to make it easy to control! As for comfort. Took me a while to find the right hand grip. I still cant get the hang of using the buttons on the right side of the mouse. But i can say the same for the mx400. I couldnt use the 2 buttons on the left hand side until it came natural to me. There are small rubber patches below the buttons what make it comfy to rest your thumb (and 4th finger) on when your not useing them. Doesnt seem a lot but it makes it a hell of a lot more comfy than other mice! This is my first gaming mouse iv bought. I dont know why im compareing to the mx400. This mouse is in a league of its own! up there with the more expensive mice!

The Roccat Kova is an all round great mouse, perfect for CS Series and COD Series.

Build quality is amazing as usual from roccat and is a very big step up from an old dell mouse from my old school...

The mouse comes with a quick start guide and you will sort the mouse in seconds to how you want e.g. DPI and Lights. The mouse was just a plug and play for me.

The looks of this mouse are great, the lights just set the mouse apart from the rest.

5/5 for roccat yet again.!

My opinion

4.5 star
i upgraded from a mx 518, this mouse is just superior over it, it feels more accurate and easier to use and much more compfortable, i know picture doesn't like it is but it is. i played at 800 dpi with old mouse as 1600 dpi was way too inaccurate but this mouse makes 1600 dpi easy to use and it makes such a difference.

It has cool funky lights with it

The bad part:
DPI, you have only 4 choices of DPI 400,800,1600,3200. these are most commonly used so w.e.

It is almost inpossible to change DPI settingsin game. you have to press the back 2 buttons to gether to only go up, you have to cycle back again, oviously you go in game settings and change vehicle sensitivity up.

AS the 4 types of dpi don't effect me i don't care and i never seemed to change dpi anyway in games so that only costed 0.5 star

overall i love it, Very good designed mouse.

P.s. when researching it, people were having problems with windows 7, tested it on win 7 32 bit ultimate and it worked fi

I purchased this mouse along with a roccat sota mouse pad. I used to play with the razer diamondback but after it broke I decided for a change. I play CSS and go to all the i series, and now after recieving (in super quick time from OCUK may i add) this mouse I cannot wait for i39! This mouse delivers in every area! precision, comfort, ease of use! its brilliant and I dont know how ive played without it before? with the sota aswell they just seem to fit together like a glove :) i would advise anyone to try one of these and not like, its not gona happen, all i need now is the arvo and apuri from roccat and i will have the complete SDMS set. I cant wait!!!!!!!!
