C34F791 34" 3440x1440 VA FREESYNC 100Hz Gaming Quantum DOT Widescreen Monitor

The Samsung C34F791 (also referred to as the CF791 or C34F791W with various regional suffixes) provides an upgraded VA solution, with steeper curvature and improved refresh rate. Aesthetically this model looks very much like a significantly wider version of the C27F591FD. The bezels are slender at the top and sides, comprising a very slim silver-coloured hard plastic outer component and slim black panel border. The bottom bezel and upper surface of the stand base uses a silver-coloured matte plastic. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick (JOG button) located at the rear of the monitor, at the right side when viewed from the front.

The panel used is a 34” SVA (‘Super’ Vertical Alignment) UltraWide part with 3440 x 1440 (UWQHD) resolution (21:9 aspect ratio) and a 100Hz native refresh rate. The monitor also supports Adaptive-Sync and hence AMD FreeSync, with a variable refresh rate range believed to be 48 – 100Hz (unconfirmed). The monitor has a steep curvature of 1500R – significantly steeper than the older model and slightly steeper than the newer models (C27F591FD etc.) This is designed to provide a more engrossing experience, with the curve being more of a ‘feature’ than it used to be. Other attractive aspects of the specification include a 3000:1 specified static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and the use of a very light matte anti-glare screen surface. This minimises ‘graininess’ and helps preserve image vibrancy as much as possible. And vibrancy is certainly something that Samsung intends to deliver, with this monitor featuring a flicker-free Quantum Dot backlight. Such a solution employs Quantum Dots in place of the usual backlight phosphors to enhance the colour gamut – 125% sRGB is specified. So this isn’t wide gamut in the traditional sense, but the gamut certainly extends beyond sRGB for some extra vibrancy. A 4ms grey to grey response time is specified, which should be taken with salt as usual.

The monitor includes the ‘Eye Saver Mode’ low blue light function, designed to aid a restful night’s sleep or provide more relaxing viewing generally. There is also a ‘Game Mode’, designed to enhance visibility and saturation in an artificial way – competitive advantage over things looking like they should. PiP and PbP functionality is also included.
The monitor is VESA compatible when used with the included mount. This simply attaches to the back of the monitor allowing for height adjustment even when fixed to a wall.
The ports include; 2 HDMI ports, DP 1.2a (with Adaptive-Sync), 2 USB 3.0 ports (plus upstream) and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The display inputs are concealable with a removable plastic cover, to keep things neat. There is also a Kensington security slot towards the bottom right corner, at the rear.

Great screen

Bought this as a B grade item from Overclockers have to say it is in pristine condition all cables included thanks OC. The screen is big with a sturdy stand and upgrading from a 24" Samsung I am blown away with the screen space on offer. It has rich colours and dark blacks. Even though I'm using a Nvidia card and not using the freesync so far every game I have played looks great and I feel immersed into them like never before thanks to the curve. If your thinking of trying out an Ultawide screen then do it you wont be disappointed.

This monitor is so fantastic! I am a music composer/producer, a graphic artist and 20+ years as a gamer! I run this brilliant monitor with a PowerColor VEGA 64 Red Devil edition and it runs everything sharp and with an amazing view distance and angel, that gives me a whole new way of thinking immersive gaming at it´s basic core value! Samsung created the best allround 34" 3440x1440 VA FREESYNC 100Hz Gaming Quantum DOT Widescreen Monitor.... 10/10 BEST MONITOR EVER! (oh by the way, you can play and watch fils at 4K on this, no problem at all). There is no other option, at the price is very good at the moment. I would pay 1000 U.K. For this! (i almost did when it came out, hahaha)

Stunning Screen

Received on 22nd Dec, this screen is simply stunning. Driving it with 2 x R9-290X's in Crossfire. The Medium Crossfire mode works well, you have two settings for this on the monitor, the advanced does not work very well at all and makes things twitchy. No screen lag at all in CS-Go and other high FPS games. The curve adds depth and feel to games played. Panel is superb, very bright with vibrant colours, and not sensitive with regard to viewing angle. Chuffed to bits with it. Best upgrade in ages.

Best overall monitor

Ok I had the delivery on Tuesday after ordering late Monday afternoon after the deadline so kudos to OC as usual for service.
I have not owned a Samsung monitor for over a decade mainly benq, asus, dell's,and a few others so was curious to see how good Samsung has moved on and I have to get it out of the way first and foremost this is as my title says the best Overall monitor I have owned period.

I had the Asus PG34Q g sync early last year for a week and the stand (for my desk depth 600mm) really poor as it projected the monitor right into my face even had to pull the desk from the wall and leave the rear of the stand hanging off so the monitor didn't sit so close for comfort. This was a relatively big issue but no where as bad as the light bleed! I don't want to alienate any asus users out there I love asus kit I still have a Z97 pro gamer in my case but that panel at a £1000 is totally unacceptable imo.
So back it went! didn't like the OC functionality either it should be a native 100hz or a 75hz out of the box.

Ok so onto the Samsung the stand is simple and an elegant solution giving full access apart from swivel which I never use anyway, but more importantly for users with a 600mm desk depth its perfectly away from my eyes.
The curve took a day to get used too but its strange but the curve has bent back (what magic is going on here Samsung :) and now is amazing to view.

Light bleed is Totally non existent even late at night gaming with for example arma 3 with the night vision every side right into the corners is PURE black! Epic!
It was very easy to setup and as I don't like electronic gimmicks on panels apart from adjusting the brightness and a bit more contrast it is natively stock @100hz as I believe if a panel is good enough stock should give great results period. And it does games (using a NVidia card 980ti on FAST for v sync) is super smooth don't notice any screen tearing or stuttering showing over 70fps in fall out 4 with 3440 hack)
Might even with the new Vega AMD cards coming soon not even bother with free sync however something not mentioned in the spec above is that these newer panels for Free Sync support LFC (low framerate compensation) AMD's main site shows the list of panels that have the functionality and this one is on the list.

Colour shifting was a tiny downside but you have to move quite high above or below the central viewing area so isn't an issue, I use Trackir in arma and move side to side and don't notice a thing.
Overall this is a great gaming monitor and AMD might even sway me to getting Vega soon :) as it can only get better with free sync.
