Mine is now junk. It wont read anything, and I suspect is the cause of random crashes I experienced recently.

The Samsung-based drive in my DELL laptop was also busted from the get-go. I think that's the last time I'll get one of those!

Shame because Samsung are usually spot on with their products.

Slips up over time

Here is a drive that when bought will be a useful addition to any PC system (as with mine) but over a few months will become slow, unreliable, and a terribly huge drag on your system (as with mine...).

I bought this in the confidence that it'd be cheap and just 'do the job', as I needed a fast read/write DVD+-RW drive for a brand new hand-built computer. Reviews back then weren't as bad and hadn't mentioned much the problems that seem to occur over time. I'm now in the situation where I'll have to buy a new drive because it just seems to have a mind of it's own, reading discs WHEN IT FEELS LIKE IT (which incidentally is about 40% of the time).

For God's sake, don't buy this if you're hoping to just plug and play and be happy for years to come. Chances are you'll be pulling your hair out when you try to install a new game and you get something similiar to a 'cyclic redundancy' error which is what my new copy of GTA4 is now saying when I try to reinstall it. Shame...

Great product at first, very fast and quite quiet.

However, after a few months of use both this drive and the SH223F(which I had before) both stopped reading discs.
Be careful about buying this drive as it seems these unreliability issues are quite common from what I've also read.
Other than that however as I said it is a great drive shame it has the unrealiability issue.
