SM961 Polaris 1TB M.2-2280 PCI-e 3.0 x 4 NVMe Solid State Drive

The top-ranging SM961 makes use of 2-bit MLC V-NAND flash and provides sequential reads of up to 3,200 MB/s and sequential writes of up to 1,800 MB/s. Likewise, random reads and writes are listed at 450K IOPS and 400K IOPS respectively. The SM961 is available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB capacities.

What you need to know

This device is fast., perhaps the fastest I have seen 3500 MBsec read here. But....
With my ASUS X99A BOARD If I overclock the board it slows down the drive to reads of 1700 !
Apparently this is because the Bios, when overclocked only, sets the M.2 slot to Gen 2 and there is no setting to bring it back (unlike the PCI slots).
The solution (apparently) is to miount thje M.2. on card, dont use the on board slot. One like this Hyper M.2 X4 PCI-E Mini Adapter Card - Black PCB

When it is in a slot then you can overclock, then set the drive back to Gen 2.
This is no loss because using the M.2 slot disables a PCI slot anyway
