Well done Samsung

These NVMe drives are great and bring extra speed to one of the slowest parts of your computer. Samsung have done a great job here and stuffed alot of technology into a tiny M.2 NVMe SSD.

Installed in an ASUS Z97 motherboards M.2 slot and loaded Windows 7 quite easily from a USB flash drive, just make sure you have the Samsung NVMe drivers in a folder on the USB drive as Windows 7 doesn't have out the box support.

At the part in the custom installation process where you select the drive you want to use for Windows the installer can't see the NVMe drive but if you click "Load Driver" and navigate to the folder on the USB drive where you placed the drivers the installer loads them and you are able to choose the NVMe drive and continue the Windows install.

I haven't tried it myself but I believe Windows 10 has a driver built in so less faffing around.

Anyway performance on the Samsung NVMe SSD is really good, even connected to an older M.2 slot that only runs at PCI-e 2.0 x2 performance was better than a regular SATA SSD with read/writes around 800 MB/s. . . If your motherboard supports PCI-e 3.0 x4 through its M.2 slot *or* you mount this NVMe SSD in a PCI-e 3.0 x4 adapter card plugged into one of your boards PCI-e 3.0 slots then this Samsung SM961 will scream with around 3 GB/s reads and nearly 1.5GB/s writes

If you're in the market for a superfast SSD then these Samsung M.2 NVMe SSDs should be on your shortlist.

Of course remember these are OEM units with less warranty and support than other Samsung Retail units so bare that in mind. If your tech savy and believe the product will last well beyond its 12 month warranty then grab one of these SM961 units while you can! . . .

being a OEM drive there are no drivers therefore your MB will see the drive but windows will not and will work only in win10 unless you install the "stornvme.sys " for win7
