Kaze Server 5.25inch Black Fan Controller

The Scythe Kaze Server Fan Controller allows the user to choose one of three methods of controlling the fan speed: manual, semi-automatic, and fully automatic for control of up to four 3-pin fans. The Kaze Server will show the instantaneous fan speed of each fan, and is also able to display PC temperatures using the four included temperature sensors which can be placed virtually anywhere inside the PC case. In addition, it features an alarm system which sounds in the event that any of its controlled fans fail to spin.

The three different modes

Manual mode - This is self explanatory: you control the fan speed. Turning the dials will increase or decrease the fan speed accordingly. This is the best option if you want to maintain a constant airflow through the system.

Automatic mode - The fans are switched off until they reach a self-defined temperature. The fans then rotate until either the temperature is reduced below the threshold or alternatively the fan speed will increase to provide more cooling if required. This option is best if you want the quietest possible setting when your PC is running cool, safe in the knowledge that if things heat up then the fan speed will increase.

Semi-auto mode - This is a mixture of the other two modes. You determine the start fan speed and the temperature threshold. The Kaze Server will then increase the speed of the fans if the temperature exceeds that threshold, if not it will remain at a constant speed. This option will maintain a constant amount of airflow but fans speeds will increase if the temperature rises.

Does The Job

This is a good looking and well made fan controller. It was easy to install in my Corsair 650D. Just make sure you attach all the cables first and feed them through otherwise you'll never be able to make all the small connections afterwards. There are 3 setting for each fan - auto, semi-auto and manual. Auto is useless as the fans just go to high and stay there. Semi-auto is useful because you can set a minimum temperature before the fan will increase it's speed. I use this for my CPU fan while gaming. The manual setting I use for my other fans setting the level just enough to keep things quiet and cool. The temperature probes work surprisingly well. I placed one near my CPU and it gave the same temp reading as the mobo sensor. My only other criticisms are the coloured cables. Black would have been better. Also I couldn't get the dial increments to work to work in 30's rpm, more like 100's, as stated in the manual. Finally, full marks to OC for service and delive!

I've had one fan controller previously and the build quality was questionable. This Kaze Server has no such issue, its perfectly built and feels solid.

There are 8 cables (4xtemp and 4xfans), so its takes about 30 min to install (but thats half the fun isnt it!)

I have mine on Semi-auto, and its great. while im surfing all fans run around 600rpm and as soon as I start gaming it ramps up the fan speeds without any intervention.

One thing to note, is that you cant run this with out the temp probes attached. I attached the fans first and turned on pc to test and the screen was unreadable. almost all the LED parts were lit up - I thought I had a faulty controller. Once I had plugged in the temp probes it worked beautifully. Nice and clear screen.

The knobs protrude about 10mm, but thats not an issue for me. Maybe to someone?

get one, its worth the money!
