10TB IronWolf NAS 7200RPM 256MB Cache Internal Hard Drive (ST10000VN0004)

The Ironwolf ST10000VN0004 is a 3.5-inch, 10 terabyte (10,000-gigabyte) hard drive designed by Seagate for long-lasting continuous use in NAS servers or home server systems.

The drive features a state-of-the-art SATA 6G interface, a 256 MB cache, and platters rotate at 7,200 rpm. The reduced speed of the HDD has a low power consumption of only 6.8 watts and can simultaneously transmit data with a sustained data throughput of brisk 210 MB / s.

The Ironwolf series NAS hard drives feature Seagate's AgileArray technology. This provides improved disk balance, RAID optimization and reduced power consumption. Advanced troubleshooting ensures that your hard drive meets NAS system requirements for better data integrity.

Reducing the vibration effects typically associated with multi-disk solutions improves reliability. This is made possible by integrated sensors for measuring rotational vibrations (RV). Optimized power profiles enable low power consumption for NAS applications with continuous operation.

The plate is also filled with heliumand hermetically sealed. Helium has only one-seventh of the density of air, so replacing air with helium in a hard disk drive significantly reduces the air turbulence caused by spinning disks. It also minimizes power consumption and temperatures, allowing Seagate to offer more discs in a traditional 3.5-inch form factor.

This design offers a 50% capacity gain while still saving up to 23% energy. So the hard drive consumes only 6.8 watts in operation and runs about four to five degrees below the temperature of standard hard drives. With 4.42 W in idle and 0.8 in standby mode, the remaining power consumption of the IronWolf HDD show relatively low.

Attention: Please note that this hard drive model with 26.1 mm is slightly higher than that of most other 3.5-inch HDDs. If necessary, measure whether the hard disk can fit into your PC, NAS or external hard drive enclosure.

The Perfect 10TB HDD

Ran diagnostics test on the 10tb drive and everything was fine, no bad sectors or any other issues.

Transfer speeds are amazing. Using a WD 6tb green drive copying to the Ironwolf; 8gb file took around 40 seconds with an average speed of 180mb/s.
Copying the same file from the Ironwolf to the WD Green was incredible! The burst speed started off at 1.5gb/s maybe more, file was copied in around 10 seconds. Even my Samsung 850 EVO SSD burst speed isn't that high!

Also copied a 1.6gb file from the WD to the Ironwolf which was about 2-3 seconds. Ironwolf to WD for the same file was instant, like you were copying a picture file.

I would say average writing speed would be the 150mb/s mark (Only if you are copying large files to the drive such as over 10GB, otherwise it is higher) Read speed is over 200mb/s.

After having the drive on for around 20 minutes it was warming up but only around the controller part. The WD drives were much hotter. Very little noise was heard even during heavy use and testing.

Highly recommend this drive, was worried spending so much money on just a HDD and also prefer WD over Seagate for their reliability. I have had one external & one internal Seagate drive fail (DOA). All WD's are still working which I have had for longer, but to get a 10tb and have quality performance makes it well justified.
