Died after just shy of 3 years.

Served me perfectly well for a while. Sometimes got the sense it was a bit slow in the last year.

Made a fun clicking noise tonight, and now it can't be seen by my bios. Time for a replacement I guess. Just looking to see where the warranty is because, urgh, can't really be splashing cash at the moment.

BEWARE!

Seagate released two different versions of this drive x3 platter and x2 platter. The x3 platter drive is slower and noisier. Make sure that you get x2 platter version.

very nice silent HD

had this running for 3 days non stop now and no issues what so ever! i disabled the AAM/APM in crystaldiskinfo to stop the clicking noise that some hd's have etc.
at the time of writing this review, these seem to be the newest versions from seagate and come with the newest firmware on them which is CC43 for these versions, hd runs cool and silent, very impressed with it, looks like seagate have fixed the issues now! great hd at a great price!

Good Hard Drive

I was slightly worried about this Hard Drive after reading some of the reviews but after buying and fitting it's seems perfect. I'll update if this changes.

Loud but fast and big storage

It's slightly louder than other hard drives I have owned, It has a massive storage space. This is an essential for any video editor or gamer.

good

nice and fast, plenty of storage. and quiet running. very happy (so far, fingers crossed)

yes it does make a very little click noise when parking the head or waking up. but thats normal and hardly does it anyway.

Excellent Upgrade

I own an old model of this drive (1TB version) and I was struggling with recording @ 1920x1080p / 30FPS due to dxtory reporting a benchmark of 80mbs average. It meant I was having to scale it down which meant losing quality.

After some research it was either these or WD Blue/Red/Black and as I hadn't had a problem with Seagate before I went for two of these through experience and price.

First thing I did when I set them up (Windows doesn't automatically install them, its a simple process of activating them though) was tested the dxtory benchmark, to my pleasant surprise i was getting 176mbs on each drive, a day later after a fresh reboot (not reinstall) I'm getting 186 on one and 195 on another, now dxtory isnt the most accurate of benchmarks and I would say the lower results I got on the first day were more accurate but I can 100% confirm that I can record no problem @ 1920x1080 / 30 FPS. I can even record at 1920 x 1080 / 60 FPS. I haven't tried any higher.

I'm also using a 2500k @ 4.4Ghz / 8GB 1600Mhz DDR 3 / 7970 / OCZ Vertex 2 180GB SSD with no problems at all. I did find that my old 1 TB Seagate Barracuda was when recording, causing me to lose more FPS than normal so whether it was on its way out or not I don't know but I know that this is an amazing upgrade for recording purposes! This was with playing the game from my SSD and recording to the harddrive mentioned that wasn't being used by anything else.

Some of the reviews here say they are noisy but the ones I received as as close to silent as you'd expect, even my old Seagate Barracuda is still silent after what must be 4+ years.

Great drive!

Very very quiet, cost effective. 5 out of 5.

Superb silent drive

OCUK sent me the latest model its 100% silent you can hear a very minor seek noise but its way less noise than a silent case fan you only even detect the noise as its a slightly different tone (I sit very close to my PC). Very fast as well great buy for the price I may need to buy another now is the only downside for me!

Good

A good 2tb drive for the price but I would recommend using a silent case with it because it makes this strange whirling noise.

Stay Away

I have 2 of these from another Web Shop since Jan as they were slightly cheaper than here..Strange Noises, Clicking and Grinding RMAed them both within a week its the end of March and i have still not got a working drive.. Hence i am back to OC looking for a another drive Stay away from these DM001 Drives the model number may aswell spell DOOM. Need to Stress the drives were not from OC..

Fair for the price

Holds a nice amount of storage (around 1.8TB), however since the drive has been making a weird pulsing vibration noise, I'm now pretty concerned mine is about to fail. I understand all hard drives have a relatively high rate of failure, however I don't think I'll be buying Seagate again, shame though :(

WhoppA!

have just purchased 2 of these now. one is Sata6gb wired the other on the only spare SataII(3gb)left on my X79 motherboard, 150mbsec on the 6gb line:O) niiiceee, 82mb on the standard lesser SATA II. So cant complain. No idea what peeps were saying about the clicking, both of mine silent, perhaps just newer models?.. either way VFM superb! easy to fit (im an idiot too) just had to add a volume using the windows help and then format...job done superb buy buy or its bye bye !

What a price!

have been looking to buy a large drive for over a year now, but with the prices being as stupid as they were, i just deleted the files which weren't as important!

But now, I couldn't say no.

The drive-fistly, it's very light, no reassuring, but a tribute to the engineering which has gone into this thing (probably)
Speeds are good, Transfaring files i got over 70Mb/s for a few hours, access times are snappy, comparing to my (aged) 640gb Caviar Black.

Only thing is, it's louder than my other two drives (Barracuda 500gb and Caviar Black 640)
it makes a whirring noise and a clicking noise when the arm parks.
But I'm odd when it comes to noises.

Can't go wrong for the money....

Really good

Well, its a harddrive, what can i say. Plugged it in, switched on the PC, went into the manage thingy for Windows 7 and formatted it. It works like any harddrive should :)

Some folks in other comments have noticed a click, its a double click on spin up and spin down, simply the heads moving on and off the parked position. Apart from that the drive is super silent.

Luke F 2012-07-30

OK

It does make a loud clicking noise at completely random times occasionally, as the other posters have pointed out. But it sounds like the heads parking or unparking so I'm assuming it's normal.

Other than that, the drive performs very well. HDtune reports 177MB/s max, 37MB/s min, and 120MB/s average, with access time of 14.3 ms.

I can't tell you how snappy the loading is because my OS is actually running on an SSD and I'm only using this for data and large programs (like games). But games load quickly enough that I never feel limited by the hard disk. Other than that, data transfers from the SSD to the HDD in windows 7 generally happen at over 60MB/s so I'd recommend this drive to anyone looking for a cheap 2TB HDD.

Strange Clicking

I agree with the other 2 posts, this drive does makes a strange noise when about to seek, It also has me concerned that is on the edge of a fail ran a full format an drive has formated fine with no errors got to admit though am a little concerned now this is the 3rd post

Other than that, it is very fast!

Strange Clicking

I would have to agree with the other poster, this drive makes a strange noise when about to seek, It also has me concerned that is on the edge of a fail (I will run some tools from UBCD) and see what happens.

Other than that, it is very fast!

Will it break or won't it?

It would get 5 stars, if it wasn't for one nagging thing; it seems to make a strange momentary clicking noise when beginning a seek on the drive. I put this down to the arm moving over the magnet, maybe it is a little more noisey because the needle is closer to the plate than with smaller HDDs. But then I thought no, I have a 1.5Tb seagate barracuda that does not make any such noise when seeking, so I am back to the question of whether it will fail and lose all my files. Here's hoping not! - I will keep you all aprised.

Other than that, the drive is quiet, efficient, and as fast as you can get with a SATA HDD. Good buy all in all, if not a tad concerning.
