Seasonic Gold Goodness at a Great Price

This power supply sits at the apex of the price-performance charts. It is virtually impossible to find such an efficient, quiet PSU from a similarly reputable company at this value.

I used it on my parents' Dell Inspiron 560. Even in this worst case (pun) scenario (one 92mm exhaust fan, top mounted PSU space) the G550W is imperceptibly quiet. The only two wires that are hardwired are the logical ones, 24 pin and 4+4 pin; everything else is modular and optional. The only thing to heed is if you are wanting to run CrossFire, there are only two 6+2 pin cables which means unless you have cards which only have one power connector each then multiGPU is a no-go.

The system that I used it on was upgraded from an OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W 80 Plus to this PSU. Using a Kill-a-Watt to compare before and after, I am saving about 10-20W at idle, 20-30W during gaming and just above 40W doing Prime95 + FurMark. These savings plus the fact that the fan is slow/off a lot of the time means that the upgrade was well worth it.

Overall, I can heartily recommend this PSU. Thanks to Seasonic for the great product and OCUK for the great service!

I received the product the day after I ordered it so that was really helpful to my PC build.

Now I have been using it for about 1 month I have gained more knowledge of the product and its totally amazing really, REALLY good price to performance ratio and I believe that with the OC I'm running and the Card I believe that sometimes in really hard hitting areas of a game/programme I actually use more than 550w not by much but I do believe I'm pushing it and so far absolutely nothing, I have heard that it is basically the same as the 650w but they kind of forced a bottleneck, I'm not too sure it's true but that's what I'v heard so that would explain how I can push it a little bit.

The fan is hardly used as it only kicks in at 50c and so far I have only heard it kick in once and I have been playing some really hard hitting games and it has never kicked on apart from when I ran Prime 95.

Overall its a really good price to performance, really efficient and really quite, defiantly recommended.

Good for value

The box is simple and the user manual is leaking
Positive :
-12Volts drop from 100W to 300W is 0.01V
For whatever reason power off status has 0.04Amps without motherboard
The number being the same as my old PSu i will ignore it and blame the multimeter
