Excellent PSU for the money

I bought this PSU to replace my old ThermalTake Toughpower 1200w that has served me well for the best part of a decade, still works but I misplaced most of the modular cables over the years and can no longer get replacements for my model, so thought it was time for a new one.

I did a lot of research before buying and read countless reviews, I was torn between this and the EVGA G2, but eventually the slightly cheaper price swung me in favour of this one.

* Decent, well provisioned cable selection
* Cable lengths are just about right for a clean build (CM 690 III case)
* All flat ribbon type cables except for the 24-pin motherboard which is high quality sleeved
* Black "stealth" wires - no ugly multi coloured wires
* Compact unit (a good few inches shorter than my last PSU, can finally use my cases bottom fan mount)
* Inaudible fan (at least I haven't heard it over my case fans)
* Rock solid power delivery and ripple suppression (according to reviews, I have no personal method of testing)
* Every kind of protection feature you could wish for
* Relatively cheap

* Cables are stiff and due to the way they're folded in the packaging have acquired bends that detract from the neatness of being flat
* PSU side connections do not all "lock in" properly, I found myself having to re-insert the connectors numerous times while pulling cables into tidy positions
* Ribbon cables are of a cheap shiny plastic coating, I would have preferred material sleeving, this is also the cause of the stiffness I believe
* Logo and specification sticker are on the wrong sides if you have a case with a bottom PSU fan intake, this means that if your case has a window you'll see the (ugly) spec sheet instead of the model logo, which would be more aesthetically pleasing
* The 3 PCIe cables all have 2 6+2-pin connectors; its best to avoid connecting more than 1 GPU power input to a single cable (where possible) to avoid too much current draw on the 12v wires potentially burning them out - an extra pair of single connection cables would have been nice
* Only Bronze efficiency (if you care about your electric bill)

The above cons are mainly cosmetic, and may not really be cons to some people. Certainly not deal breakers for me, and for the price I'm very happy with my purchase.

I can not speak of reliability yet as I've only had it installed for 24hrs at this point, but its made by Seasonic and uses high quality components so I have no doubt it will be going strong for years to come.

Also a big thanks to OCUK for the excellent service as usual, and for the Haribo - my misses loved pulling them out the carpet after the youngest got hold of them lol! ;)

As other reviews noted this PSU is fully modular with nice flat cables. It's a perfectly good PSU other than one thing: the noise.

When I start gaming this thing is by far the loudest thing in my case and the loudest PSU I've ever owned. I can even hear it though my headphones!

I am not the only person to have experienced this problem, despite noise never being mentioned in the reviews I read before purchasing it. For this reason I would not be able to recommend this PSU to anyone.

Big, Beautiful, Quiet

CONFIRMED: Not as shown in picture with semi-modular. PSU delivered is FULLY modular, i.e no cables attached.

This PSU is larger than the OCZ Stealth Xtreme II it replaced by almost an inch in length. Was a tight fit in my Thermaltake Armor LCS case.
Deathly quiet in operation. Cannot hear the PSU over the low hum of my case fans.

Comes with more cables than you could ever need, so any combination of components are catered for. Well packed, looks gorgeous, and does exactly what is needed of it.

Does the job nicely but not as in the pi

I was surprised to find the delivered PSU to have no attached cables as it does in the above picture. Now I know fully modular should mean no cables attached but some manufacturers do use it when the mobo and CPU power connectors are permanently connected. To me this makes sense as it's not like you can get away without connecting those two.

I know that may sound like a moan but it's not, this PSU was recommended to me and I am glad I bought it over the Corsair I was going to buy.
