Product information: Fortress FT03 Tower Case - Black (SST-FT03B USB 3.0)

As SilverStone engineers started working on the third model for the Fortress series, they had contemplated on the future of computer chassis and ways to improve it for home/office integration. So the Fortress FT03’s design goal was to simply give back as much user space as possible by reducing chassis depth to unprecedented level. The engineers also wanted to accomplish the change in design without compromises to the chassis’s ability in accommodating upper mainstream components. Traditional computer chassis designs take up desktop room by not only their physical footprint, but they also require additional space for cable connections. With the FT03, there are no such restrictions because its beautiful, 2.5mm thick, sand-blasted and anodized aluminum outer shells have no cable connectors to be found on all four sides, which frees up tremendous amount of desktop real estate for its users.
The interior of the chassis utilizes SilverStone’s unique stack effect cooling layout so a Micro-ATX motherboard is mounted in 90 degree rotation to take advantage of hot air’s natural tendency to rise. This design also enables the FT03 to support graphics cards that are as long as 13.7 inches without the chassis taking up similar room depth-wise. In addition, the chassis also supports three 3.5” hard drives with one capable of hot-swapping function and one 2.5” drive bay for excellent storage flexibility.
For a chassis that may redefine a new design direction for the desktop computer with its revolutionary new proportion and usage model, the Fortress FT03 is simply perfect for anyone looking to build a striking yet fully functional and discreet system.

- Super small footprint design with no cables on four sides
- Stack effect layout with 90 degree motherboard mounting
- Support graphics cards of any length
- Support full tower CPU coolers
- Mandatory cable routing design
- Includes hot-swap bay for quick data storage needs
- Backside hard drive mounting with passive cooling for silence

Have had quite a few cases in the last 5 years and for air cooling this rates as the best.
The 3 internal fans are positioned at strange angles but do a great job. (im changing mine out for some Akasa Apaches) The air filters are easy to remove as well.
The only downside is that the usb top panel connectors plug into USB ports rather than the motherboard, what it really needs is a USB3 motherboard connector.

Brilliant case

I was a little apprehensive when I bought the case thinking it was going to cause all sorts of issues, but needs dictated the need for such a style/size case.

All doubts were washed away when it arrived, its a lot smaller than it appears on screen and light too. A tonne of space inside and access is not an issue as the sides and front slide off.

My main niggle is you need to buy a SLOT LOADING drive which wasn't made apparent on the product spec's. And you can only eject the drive via the OS or pull the front cover off to press eject!

I've fit the following with ease:

Gigabyte GA-Z68MX-UD2H-B
2GB MSI HD 6950 Twin Frozr II/OC
i5 2500K
Corsair Hydro H60
120GB Agility III

All components fit easily and can safely say, I could fit another GFX card with room to spare!

Overall it has been a pleasure to put together and would definitely recommend this case.

This case is amazing!! Small on the outside with a lot of room on the inside... I managed to fit two GTX 570, 2600k with a Corsair H60 and the performance is superb. The air flow is not bad either, the temps are similar to the ones of my Corsair 650D. Would definitely recommend!!

Quality case

Great case. It looks the business especially if used as a Gaming/HTPC. Fits quite well with the AV gear. Is challenging routing cables especially if you fit a fan controller (which I'd recommend). Keeps components as cool as when they lived in my Bitfenix Colossus. LED strips can be rigged near the DVD entrance & top panel which looks very cool but is also very fiddly considering the cable routing.

As mentioned by the other reviewer you need a slim slot loading DVD drive. These require a special type of data & power connectors. If you google search it these can be found for a couple of pounds.
Only issue I have is that the slot in the front plate for the DVD to eject from is a little cramped. DVD's will half eject & have to then be manually pulled out otherwise the DVD drive try's to suck it back in & eject again & again & again. Can't seem to find a way round this. If anyone else has overcome this snag please let me know.

Other than that I think the case is quality.

Fantastically designed case

have just assembled a new computer into this case and it is simply one of the greatest cases i have encountered. If you're looking to save on some space but, like me, found most Micro ATX cases to be rubbish, then this is the case for you. I have fitted:
Asus P8P67-M PRO Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 MicroATX Mobo B3 REVISION
Core i5 2500 3.3GHz Socket 1155 6MB
Antec TruePower New 650W Modular PSU
G-Skill 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz Ripjaws
Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 32MB
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2
MSI GTX 460 Cyclone OC Edition 1GB GDDR5

With room to breath. The case comes with 3x120mm case fans, all placed to allow excellent are flow. One thing to note is that this case requires a slot loading slimline optical drive like this one - Samsung SN-T083C 8x DVD
