Rival 500 MOBA/MMO Optical Gaming Mouse (62051)

Next-Gen side button layout

The Rival 500 is the first mouse designed to function with the natural movements of your hand. The side button layout is engineered to the natural contours of your thumb to react accurately and fluidly. With Tactile Alerts, you can FEEL in-game events. Everything comes together to create the most dynamic gaming experience possible for the sole purpose of helping you play better.

Armed with gaming’s first flick down switches that are extremely easy to distinguish. It’s more ergonomic and gives gamers the fastest reaction time because your thumb moves faster when you flick down opposed to pressing in. When the battle is the most intense you can ALWAYS find the key you need.

Tactile Alerts

The mouse is no longer merely an input device; gamers can now feel in-game events, aiding them in critical decision-making. Customize every aspect of the alerts from intensity to vibration patterns.

Take it a step further and set individual alerts for multiple triggers like cooldown timers, health status, and more through SteelSeries Engine.

Out of ammo in your magazine, …Tactile Alert. Certain spell comes off cooldown, …Tactile Alert. Countdown timer for that pizza in the oven, …Tactile Alert! Gaming will never be the same.

Our proprietary SteelSeries engineered switches have a lifetime of over 30 million clicks.. All 15 switches have and maintain their consistent and responsive feel.

The Left and Right click are built with a special reinforced plastic, unlike any other mouse to-date. Not only does this make the mouse more durable, but it also helps to evenly distribute the force of each click making for a more consistent click feeling regardless of where you press down.

Expand Your Arsenal

15 fully programmable buttons let you make your Rival 500 one-of-a-kind. Sensor Out-lasthit, out-lane, and out-perform with the best optical sensor for gaming. The Pixart 3360 is the most advanced optical sensor ever made giving gamer the most precise mouse tracking with zero- hardware acceleration

Next-Gen Side Button Layout

The current number grid design seen on competitive mice forces so many buttons in such a small space, making it very hard to distinguish which button you are actually clicking. When seconds matter, you don’t want to be doing finger gymnastics trying to find the right spell.

On top of that, the number grid design was only built to fit in the hand, they are not designed to work with how your hand actually moves on the mouse to reach each button.

The Rival 500 features our Next-Gen side button layout where the buttons are pressed by a rotation of the thumb, rather then pressing in to click. This design makes it much easier to identify the individual buttons and combo spells. This way you actually know what button you are clicking, thus mitigating any margin of error by miss clicking.

Excellent mouse

I bought this as I was always struggling for buttons on my old (m45) mouse. This mouse is very precise, the button layout is logical and works well. I have pretty big hands and have not accidentally mis-clicked the wrong button once yet. The mouse feels great to use, the software is good and intuitive. You set up a profile per game and it will auto switch to that profile when you load the game. The extra buttons are a godsend, it has made life much easier in all types of game and even windows desktop as you can use the extra buttons as cut, paste, move etc. The sensor is amazing, noted as one of the best there is and last but not least the RGB lighting is particularly vibrant and can be fully customised to your needs.

beware, faults and poor Steelseries "support"

I ordered two of these mice for me and my wife, we play a lot of Diablo and WoW which are perfect games for this kind of mouse.

The mice feel great and the thumb button layout is really a great improvement over mice like the Razer Naga that have the 12 button thumb grid.

The problem with the Rival 500 is that they randomly lock up once you seem to reach some sort of button press "plateau", usually when you are frantically pressing buttons in the middle of an intense fight.

This problem causes the mouse to lock up, the cursor becomes non-responsive, the button that caused the lockup will just repeat it's keypress over and over until you unplug the mouse and plug it back in.

It can do this multiple times within a minute, often 10 to 20x an hour, and only in games where you use the additional thumb buttons.

To compound this, regular unplugging of the mouse to fix the hardware fault can cause the software to forget your keybindings, so you have to re-plug the mouse again to fix the secondary issue.

This problem affected both our mice on both our PC's. There is a thread on the Steelseries reddit page where a number of other users have the same problem. RMA replacements also have the same issues.

Then there is the "support" provided by Steelseries...

You have to ship the mice back to Denmark (which costs £50) SS then forgot our RMA was for 2 mice, they only issued a credit note for a single mouse and shut down our ticket as "resolved" even though we sent them photo evidence of BOTH mice sat side by side.

We opened a replacement ticket they immediately shut down as "resolved" without even replying to us.

Just to note, we both tried every possible suggested resolution to get the mice functioning again, but this looks like a firmware problem, not a PC configuration problem.

Promises they made to other affected users to fix the issue have gone unresolved for months.

My repeated requests for assistance on their Facebook page have gone blatantly ignored multiple times.

I would avoid this mouse and this manufacturer as Steelseries are a bad joke right now. Will never use them again.

OCUK on the other hand have always been great and are now assisting with our RMA.
