very loud fan above 30%

fan is very loud under load , otherwise good card

powefull but a little noisey

This is a decent card for the money. However I find it produces a lot of noise under load compared to my previous card Power colour 4850.

When I say under load I mean any fan speed above 30% produces an annoying and loud winey noise

So much noise in fact that I am currently shopping for an aftermarket quiet GPU cooler and they appear to cost around

Great card

This was an amazing card and is very quiet whilst giving good performance. A MUST buy, but ATM the MSI is probably better value.

Further note to my post below

Further to my review below, I just want to point out that the XFX card I received is a non-reference design, featuring the fan in the middle of the card rather than on the end. It is also slightly longer than the reference 5850 (this is about 10", rather than the reference 9.5").

I am yet to find any conclusive info on the differences between this 5850 and the reference design - apparantly this uses cheaper components, but having the fan in the middle also apparently keeps it slightly cooler.

I doubt there is much difference in practice, this is still an awesome f'n card!! It is also very cool and quiet - my card idles at about 37 degrees, and goes up to about 70 degrees max at load (though I have modified the fan speeds to run slightly higher than default in MSI Afterburner).

XFX Radeon 5850 1024MB GDRR5

I upgraded to this card from a Radeon 4670, and the difference is incredible. I've been playing games like Bad Company 2 and Modern Warfare 2 at very high settings at 1920x1080, and the gameplay is silky smooth.

Service from OCUK was excellent - ordered the card on sunday evening and it was delivered tuesday morning! The card also came with a free copy of the recent Aliens vs Predator game. At

Simply Awesome

This card is simple amazing, and a huge upgrade from my last card: Nvidia 8800gt
despite the price increase im still glad i bought it. Just finished a benchmark on crysis this runs at Ultra high settings 1280x1024 AAx4 with 32.10fps average. Im using a Q9650@3.00ghz with 4gb DDR2 RAM@1033Mhz so pretty respectable performance.

Wow runs at around 90fps maxx i seen was like 300 XD minimum was about 50. CS:S average was 300fps. Red Faction Guerilla runs really nice average of about 50fps minimum was 24fps.

Thanks OC uK! another fantastic service! delivered on the day i asked for at 8:30AM!!!

Blank Screen

Just to add to the review below by Ian. I run Windows 7 and i dont get the blank screen. The fan does whoosh at start but settles down very quickly to an inaudible level (seasonic 850W psu and noctua coller on i7 - so it's damn quiet.) So i'd say not all 5850's have this issue :)
Also ran L4D at 16X AF with 8xMSAA, all highest settings - top temp on 1900x1200 was 62 degrees with average fps 120 (crossfired mind).

DX10 whoopsy Part II

Have now installed Windows 7 and my cards are running fine. Ran L4D at 1900x1200 res, settings all highest with 4xMSAA and 8xAF (or th eother way round..). With my GTX 295 the fan blew to full pelt and system crashed once with heat. On these, the fan barely whispered above case noise and handled the load fine. Can't wait to try new games...

Great card

Very hard to get it seems this card right now. Lucky i was able to order from here the other day and very quick delivery.

So far it plays every game at max. Seems quite and it looks rather nice.

One annoying feature which seems with all 5850s. When your booting up, you get an annoying 30s of blank screen with the fan poweing up. Then it boots up. Hopfully software related and a fix is comming.

Other than that well worth the money. Hot product get now.

DX11 whoopsy

Got two of these for crossfire. Have come from a GTX 295 and went with this for higher performance, lower noise and power consumption. Major boo boo in that i run XP 64bit and the 5 series are not XP compatible....
Never mind, i have win7 on delivery as we speak.
On the review side, nice size and after initial fan clear out on start up, they really are silent at idle. Can't wait to get them running applications!

Stunning card

Just got one of these yesterday (not from Overclockers as they aren't in stock yet). The performance is just mindblowing, and so is the image quality. I upgraded from a BFG 8800GT OC2 and am very happy with this card - the new AF algorithms are extremely high quality and the AA options are brilliant, with minimal hit using 8xMSAA vs 4xMSAA and/or enabling adaptive MSAA.
