GTA VI

It went early! I’m sure I wasn’t alone last night, being jolted awake just after 11 pm to see GTA VI’s trailer dropped early. In this post, we’re breaking down everything we know so far about Grand Theft Auto 6.

We’re back in Vice City, baby! Whilst we’re working with pretty limited info at the moment, Grand Theft Auto Six’s first trailer has revealed we’re heading back to the Miami-inspired Vice City. What’s more, it looks like there is going to be a huge map to explore in GTA VI. In the trailer, we saw everything from the beaches and city, all the way to the Everglades.

Why Did Rockstar Release The Trailer Early?

As with seemingly every Rockstar title, leakers decided they needed to try to spoil the show and posted the full trailer online a day ahead of schedule. Not wanting everyone’s first experience of the trailer to be some 480p vertical TikTok video, Rockstar themselves decided to release the trailer early.

Whether we like it or not, leaks and Rockstar are a tale as old as time. No matter how you personally feel about gaming leaks, it is a shame that the team who worked hard on GTA 6 didn’t get to experience the trailer as intended.

It’s been a while

Ten long years since GTA V launched on console, and we finally have our first look at the next game in the franchise. Grand Theft Auto Five is the second best-selling video game of all time and one of the most financially successful entertainment products ever. The game has generated over $8 billion in worldwide revenue, leaving GTA 6 some very large shoes to fill. Already rumoured to be the most expensive video games ever produced, GTA VI certainly has our expectations set high.

Grand Theft Auto 6 – Rockstar Games

Mr Beast, eat your heart out. At the time of writing, Rockstar Games’s Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 1 has over 53 million views. If anyone in tech has a story they need to hide, today might be the day to post it.

Social Media

It was hard to miss the references to social media in the GTA 6 trailer. A not-insignificant amount of time in this first trailer showcased what looked to be a new mechanic. Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen the likes of services such as LifeInvader playing a part in the franchise. This time, it looks like we might be getting Live content, and a full social media experience similar to Instagram or TikTok.

When Is GTA 6 Launching

This is probably the most debated question in the front of gamers’ minds right now, but we think we might know when GTA VI will be available.

Back in August, as part of Take Two’s earnings call, CEO Strauss Zelnick claimed that the company had positioned itself for a significant inflexion point in fiscal 2025. Essentially, Take-Two is expecting record levels of operating performance during the 12-month period ending March 31st, 2025, which is a hint that Grand Theft Auto 6 is planned to be released between January and March 2025 now that Rockstar have confirmed it will be released in 2025. Considering Grand Theft Auto 5 was originally set for a March release date (before being delayed to September of the same year), March 2025 is looking likely for a release date for GTA 6.

Finally, with our usual gaming tin foil hats on, there’s one final clue. Fans are already claiming to have discovered a potential date from the same place Rockstar hid the trailer release date in GTA V. An in-game shirt called “ONEDAYWILLREVEALALL”. The string of numbers contain 040125 or April 1st, 2025. Which just so happens to be a Tuesday, and Big Game launches historically usually occur on Tuesdays or Fridays. This could be the future date for GTA VI’s launch or just one elaborate April Fool’s joke.

No PC Gamers Allowed

I genuinely want to believe this was an oversight, but given TakeTwo’s history, it almost certainly isn’t. Yes, it’s true. In the Press Release we received alongside GTA VI’s first trailer, there is no mention of a PC release date.

When GTA V launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, it would be over a year and a half before PC gamers finally saw the game show up in April 2015. Here’s hoping we’ll see a PC release of GTA VI before the tail end of 2026.

Grand Theft Auto’s First Female Protagonist?

Errr… not quite. Some outlets that reported this last night somehow forgot about the first Grand Theft Auto, where gamers could choose their own character. To be fair, however, the original GTA didn’t exactly make much use of the character you selected.

Excited for Grand Theft Auto Six?

I know I am! We’ve barely scratched the surface with the first trailer so make sure to check back soon as we’ll be breaking down frame by frame everything this first trailer is hiding.
