Still More Gaming Easter Eggs!

Like the big bunny themself, we here at Overclockers UK are hoppin’ mad for some great gaming Easter eggs!

Of course, this isn’t our first rodeo! We’re once again chomping at the carrot to dig into some awesome titles and discover their intriguing easter eggs!

Resident Evil Requiem – Tofu

Tofu was something of a secret character from both the original Resident Evil 2 and the subsequent 2019 remake. But did you know he also shows up in the franchise’s latest entry, Resident Evil Requiem?

As you make your way through the desolate remains of the RPD, dear ol’ Tofu makes a quick cameo outside a nearby window (or what’s left of it). To catch a glimpse of this majestic meme character, you may need to do a few laps of the first-floor corridor – it will show eventually!

Hillary Clinton – GTA IV

Hillary Clinton was once at loggerheads with Rockstar Games. She even sought to have federal regulators investigate the developer over content seen in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It was an episode deemed to be part of a wider controversy, referred to as the ‘Hot Coffee’ incident.

Rockstar’s response? Only putting Hillary Clinton in their 2008 sequel, Grand Theft Auto IV. The former presidential candidate is the face of the Statue of Happiness, which also appears to be holding a coffee cup instead of its IRL counterpart’s torch.

The Last of Us TV Show – Joel’s Original Voice Actor

Ashley Johnson wasn’t the only actor from the original video game to appear in the TV adaptation. While Troy Baker voiced and motion captured Joel in the 2013 release, he had a very different part in the show…

Baker played James, a member of David’s group of survivors. He appears late into the first season, with a fleshed-out role that allowed him to show off his live-action acting chops.

Death Stranding – Conan O’Brien

When he’s not busy hosting the Oscars, Conan O’Brien is apparently living it up in video games! In particular, Death Stranding!

To find him in-game, complete a delivery scheduled for The Cosplayer. Once you’ve linked up the facility with the UCA’s Chiral Network, the loveable television host will materialise with some funny dialogue. It’s a great surprise and joins the ranks of voice acting cameos that have blown our minds.

Cyberpunk 2077 – Bridge Baby

Bridge Babies (BBs) are a staple of Death Stranding. They are confined to pods and plugged into a porter’s suit, helping the user detect and evade the ghostly Beached Things when crossing the United Cities of America.

However, it seems the BBs have also ventured over to Night City! In Cyberpunk 2077, when helping River Ward on a quest called The Hunt, you’ll need to break into a shady-looking clinic. Go around the building, up the fire escape, and enter through the window on the second floor. You’ll find a BB in the room to your right.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater – Time Paradox

Sometimes, characters in video games are coded to be ‘unkillable’ so that the narrative remains intact. You may not even be able to aim your gun at them, let alone fire it!

However, once you’ve rendered Ocelot unconscious in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the game actually lets you straight-up murder him. Of course, you’ll trigger a game over Time Paradox, but it’s still pretty neat-o that you can change the course of history. Even if it’s just for a second!

Baldur’s Gate 3 – Rat Extermination

If we had a nickel for being asked to kill cellar rats immediately after arriving at the Elfsong Tavern, we’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it happened twice…

In 2001’s Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance, you are tasked with killing cellar rats just as soon as you arrive at the iconic inn. When you reach that same tavern in 2023’s Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll be able to pick up a quest that has you dispensing with a whole mess of rodents in the cellar. Only nineteen more years until the next culling…

The Last of Us Part II: Sic Parvis Magna

One of the early levels in The Last of Us Part II sees Ellie and Dina exploring a more open area of Seattle. There are many optional areas to discover, but if you detour to the Westlake Bank, you may yet find another Uncharted reference…

Head to the safety deposit boxes and open up the one found in the back right corner. Inside, you’ll pick up Nathan Drake’s iconic ring, engravings and all!

Novac – Fallout TV Show

Players of Fallout: New Vegas will have probably stopped by Novac at some point. You can get yourself a room in the motel, or head inside the gift shop, located inside a great big model dinosaur called Dinky. Climbing up the stairs, it’s then possible to head out into the mouth of the beast, where characters Manny or Boone will be using this strategic spot as a lookout tower.

Novac also makes an appearance in season two of the Fallout TV show. Lucy and the Ghoul run into some trouble there, and the setting is faithfully recreated. Plus, Lucy even uses Dinky’s mouth as a sniping vantage point, so bonus points for authenticity!

World of Warcraft – Harrison Jones

We all know that World of Warcraft often winks and nods to other franchises. But it seems Blizzard has a particular soft spot for Indiana Jones!

Harrison Jones pops up a few times throughout all your questing in Azeroth, donning a fedora and ready for adventure. However, you can most reliably find him in the Royal Library of Stormwind Keep. At this point, though, he probably belongs in a museum!
