Game of the month

Throughout 2020 we will be introducing you to an array of new releases but instead of reviews, we have opted to do something a little different. Each month we will be taking a closer look at the system requirements of the respective game and introducing you to suitable systems and relevant hardware.

Warcraft 3: Reforged – the game highlight of January?

Blizzard Entertainment’s Warcraft 3: Reforged is the remastered edition of the original Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos (and its expansion The Frozen Throne). This revamped edition of the game not only offers completely redesigned graphics but a whole host of new features and improved modding capabilities.

If you’re wondering if the story has also seen an update, we can confirm it follows the original faithfully. The game is set several years after the events of Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness and Warcraft: Orcs & Humans. In brief, Warcraft 3: Reforged tells the story of the Burning Legions and their attempt to conquer Azeroth.

The system requirements of Warcraft 3: Reforged

The system requirements for Warcraft 3: Reforged are not yet specified on the game’s official website and since this is a “remastered” version of an older game, the requirements are expected to be rather modest. Even an older gen gaming PC should be enough to storm into battle in single or multiplayer modes at 1080p and above! In fact, according to the manufacturer, it should also be possible to play in 4K resolution (UHD 4096 x 2160 pixels) utilising the latest generation of graphics cards.

While the minimum system requirements for Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) can also be met by an integrated graphics unit or a dedicated budget graphics card, you will need a powerful graphics card to play in 4K.

For example, within the Warcraft 3: Reforged Open Beta, an AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 is said to have achieved around 100 frames per second (FPS) at a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (WQHD), while an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti achieved 120 FPS at UWQHD.
For 4K at 60 FPS you can expect to need a Radeon RX Vega 64, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT or Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060.

Since the system requirements for Warcraft 3: Reforged are not officially known, we cannot make a binding statement at this point. As soon as more information is known, we will of course update this blog post.
