Vampire Survivors: From Original Launch to the Latest DLC

Since its release in 2022, Vampire Survivors has captured the imagination of gamers everywhere.

With a brand-new DLC and overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam, we thought it was high time we took a look at this bullet hell gem. From initial release to DLCs via updated features along the way, Vampire Survivors has given us plenty to sink our teeth into.

What is Vampire Survivors?

Vampire Survivors is an indie bullet hell game, with a twist – you are the bullet hell! Gameplay also features action roguelite elements and a banging soundtrack. Rocking the pixel graphics, you play as a champion against the creatures of the night. They come at you in hordes and it’s up to you to mow them all down efficiently.

Each level is timed, with wave after wave of monsters coming towards you. How you survive is up to you. There is an exciting roster of characters to choose from, each with their own stats and starting to offer advantage on the battlefield. Defeated foes drop gems, items, and gold, which can be spend on upgrades and power-ups. All to increase your chances of survival on your search for vampires.

Accolades

While gameplay is minimalist in style, it is certainly addictive! There are hundreds of items to collect and achievements to unlock, always giving you something to aim for. As well as, you know, all the night creatures in your crosshairs.

In addition to fan adoration, Vampire Survivors won both Best Game and Game Design at the 2023 BAFTA Game Awards. It was nominated for a further three categories, too!

Vampire Survivors DLC

On top of Vampire Survivors being an absolute gem, four DLCs have been released since it came out of early access. Each adds new stages, characters, unlocks, and monsters, providing new places to search for vampires. The first was Legacy of the Moonspell, then Tides of the Foscari, Emergency Meeting, and most recently Operation Guns.

Legacy of the Moonspell

The Moonspell clan lay to the east, and it fell after being over-run by hordes of yokai and oni. With plenty of spectral foes to defeat, there may be clues as to the vampires’ location! This DLC brings with it:

Eight new characters
Thirteen new weapons including base versions and evolutions
Seventeen new unlocks
Six new music tracks
A new stage called Mt. Moonspell

Legacy of the Moonspell was added on December 12^th 2023.

Tides of the Foscari

Set deep in a continent-sized forest is the Foscari Academy, where you can train to be a powerful wizard, expert spy, and more. Mythological creatures lurk between the trees that surround the Academy. This DLC brings:

Eight new characters
Thirteen new weapons including a unique range weapons
Seven new music tracks
A new stage called Lake Foscari

Tides of Foscari was added on April 13^th 2023.

Emergency Meeting

This DLC seems sus to me! The hunt for vampires takes you into space with some trusty new Crewmates to help you. Be prepared to fight off imposters, shapeshifters, and all manner of alien foes. This delightful crossover brings:

Nine (totally trustworthy) new characters
Fifteen new weapons
Twenty new unlocks
Six new music tracks
A new stage styled on a classic Among Us level

Operation Guns

Operation Guns is another crossover, with classic Contra arcade games. Join this gun-slinging force as you take on fearsome foes and bonkers bosses. The future of Earth depends on it. This DLC brings:

Eleven Contra-Tough characters
Twenty-two fully automatic weapons
A horizontal main stage with three distinct biomes
New tracks of Contra covers and remixes

Operation Guns was added on May 9^th 2024.

What Platform is Vampire Survivors On?

Vampire Survivors is available on a range of platforms. Initially, it launched on Steam in 2021 for early access, with its full release on October 20^th 2022. Since then, it has been added to macOS, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, mobile, and Nintendo Switch. It is due to come to the PlayStation 4 and PS5, but there are no confirmed dates yet.

Is Vampire Survivors Multiplayer?

Originally, Vampire Survivors was a single-player game. Support for local co-op gameplay for up to four players was added with its release on the Switch, in August 2023. This was added to all versions of the game, so you can team up with mates, whichever platform you play from.

As it is local co-op, there is no support for crossplay.
