Sanity Check My New Build Please!

Hi all

I've specced the following out as a new build. It has been 3 or 4 years at least since my last build. I'm aiming for something that will run any new game at 1440p at high settings, with some future proofing, or at least the potential to upgrade in a couple of years. I'm also keen to make sure I've not missed anything critical! Budget is ~ £1,000. I've tried to stick to AMD / Gigabyte to maximise compatibility, based on previous experience! I'm not convinced about the PSU. Any tips on getting the cost down would also be appreciated.

Few changes I'd make...

Swap the 3600x for the standard 3600, not a lot of difference between the two and you could still push the 3600 to similar performance

The price of that 5600xt is close to 5700 prices so I'd be tempted to go with the more powerful GPU for 1440p

The Samsung 1tb drive seems well overpriced for what your getting, could easily save a fair few £££ there

The PSU isn't the best and its the key component in your build, if that fails your screwed, I don't think you'll even get the full 700w out of it... It also only has 3 Year warranty so consider some more reputable brands like Seasonic or Superflower, I've got a Seasonic and that comes with 10 year warranty.

With that budget i'd be aiming more towards: 3600 CPU, B450 Max Mobo, Crucial P1 NVME with a cheaper case.

You can then possibly get a better GPU.

I'd also swap the PSU for a better one. Something along these lines baring in mind stock levels are bad everywhere at the moment:

Thanks for all the advice so far, it is really appreciated. Is the Kolink stuff really that bad? Or is it worth waiting for a restock of the more expensive brands?

I've swapped out the Samsung SSD for a WD Black version, saving £60 and the 3600X for the 3600, which is another £30.

On the X570, my understanding is that this would let me slot in a Ryzen 7 (or even a 9), in the future, to prolong the life of the system? I'm thinking that bigger CPU, plus a new GPU, should keep me gaming for another 4 or so years (barring any major developments)?

B450 Max versions and B550 will also support Ryzen 7 and 9 if you want to save some more cash.

B450 Max versions might not have been able to support the new AMD 4000 CPU's but this has confirmed possible now through a BIOS update.

750D a great case, but its Corsair AF DC fans at the standard lowest speed of 50% are loud. I got additional better PWM fans for my similar 450D and use Argus fan monitor to run the 2x 140 AF ones that I did keep at 30% idle which is practically silent. At the lowest standard 50% that you can set in bios they are very audible for idle, unacceptably so for me, at least you can override with argus.

I still use a 750D , had it for so long and wouldnt change it , and if i was to get a new case it would be a 750D.

Nothing wrong with the case itself, I agree I'd happily do another build in a 450D, it's not easy to find high airflow aluminium cases with acrylic windows instead of tempered glass, but the fans aren't optimal at all for a silent build, luckily easily amendable.

Thanks for the info on the fans. My tolerance for noise is relatively high - probably much more so than tinkering about and replacing fans! ; )

Yeah my daughter has the 450D and it is a nice case , even got to sling an H100I in it too ( bit of a tight fit ).

1440p at high setting will need more than RX 5600 I think. You probably better off with RX5700 and bios flash that to XT.

save some money from the case, you can get pretty decent mid towers from £70-80 range again this is personal choice of course.

CPU probably go for a 3700x as 8c will be standard for gaming soon.

PSU looks extremely cheap. Change it to something better like Corsair but you only need 650w.

Also the NVMe drive is about £100 too expensive. Samsung drives are expensive there are plenty that are equal so don’t default to Samsung.

Within budget with a better GPU.
Mortar max has confirmed support for ryzen 4000 and can handle up to 16 core cpus so plenty of upgrade options in the future.
If you dont mind a bit of tinkering you can flash MSI 5700XT bios to the gpu which unlock clock and power limits for an extra 10% performance.
