DokeV

Since it was first announced in 2019, Pearl Abyss’ DokeV has been one to watch.

DokeV

Whilst it may have evolved away from its original concept somewhat, the utterly vibrant world has captured the imagination. Just check out this gameplay trailer from Gamescom 2021 and then stick around as we take a closer look at this interesting upcoming game.

History of DokeV

Cast your minds back to November 2019. That was when DokeV was first announced, an MMO in its infancy. Originally, it was intended to be a mobile game but during development the decision was made to refocus for PC and consoles. Between its first announcement and trailer drop at Gamescom, DokeV underwent more significant changes. Namely, the fact it is now an open-world, action-adventure, creature collecting game

I can already feel that itch to catch them all…!

What is DokeV?

When we say “creature collecting game” the mind immediately turns to Pokémon or Digimon. DokeV seemingly follows a similar mechanic of fighting in-world creatures and then using a device to capture them, which magically makes you friends. Instead of a ball, it’s an intriguing mix of vacuum and stickers. Veering away from turn-based style battles, it’s more like the free-for-all carnage Pearl Abyss use in their other games. Honestly, so far so good. What can I say, I’m a 90s kid and stickers are the fastest way to my heart.

A lot of the gameplay trailer certainly focuses on the “open-world” aspect of it. The game takes place on a so-far-unnamed island, which seamlessly blends urban and rural for a stunning backdrop. Developers have confirmed that we have seen less than 10% of what this island has to offer, which is certainly exciting. Already we can see there are plenty of ways to get across the island too, skateboard, mini-car, umbrella…

But why are we here? On this island specifically? The Dokebi. (Pronounced doh-keh-bye.)

The Dokebi

The Dokebi are the little critters running around the island that we are tasked with battling and catching. There hasn’t been an official list of how many Dokebi there are or what they are called, but the trailer certainly shows an eclectic mix of creatures. They aren’t even strictly animal-based either. Most commonly we see the shiba inu-style dog on its hind legs in a t-shirt, or the panda/polar bear boxer. If you look closely, however, you’ll see an alarm clock wearing headphones. It’s that level of wacky that we live for, really.

DokeV Gameplay

So far, it has been confirmed that there will be story-driven gameplay, leading you across the island to discover new Dokebi to befriend. This includes in-game events triggered by you reaching certain milestones within the story, enabling you to capture special Dokebi. Beyond the story, you can fish, chill on the beach, and even play mini-games.

What’s more, there is going to be lots of customisation options for both your avatar and room, which is always a fun feature. Given the range of characters we see in the trailer, there seems to be nigh-on no limits what you can do with your avatar.

Will DokeV be multiplayer?

Originally, DokeV was destined to be multiplayer, as it was designed to be an MMO. Pearl Abyss already have a number of MMO games, including Black Desert, Plan 8, and the highly anticipated Crimson Desert. Since the shift to open-world, it is unclear whether there will be multiplayer gameplay. However, the developers have stated during interviews that they would support crossplay across platforms. Therefore, we can certainly hope there is going to be multiplayer gameplay!

What are the official specifications for DokeV?

Currently, DokeV has neither a firm release date, nor official specifications. For now, all we can do is keep an eye out for announcements. Perhaps rewatch the trailer a time or two.

What do I need to play DokeV?

As we don’t have official specs yet, it is hard to say exactly what hardware we’d need. The developers have stated that they moved to the PC and current gen console platform to take advantage of features like ray-tracing. This is certainly a place to start!

Whilst we cannot say that the following hardware is 100% what you need to play, we can have some fun setting up our ideal DokeV gaming environment.

Refract Gaming Celeste 2023

Refract Celeste (FS-1DH-EP)

While we don’t have the official specs, we can say one thing for certain. DokeV has amazing graphics. Straight up gorgeous. Therefore, we need a gaming PC with a certain level of graphical prowess. The Refract Celeste has an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card, armed with the innovative Ada Lovelace architecture. This facilitates smooth gameplay with high frame rates, as well as having the ability to elevate your graphics with features such as ray-tracing. Pair that with the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X CPU and high-speed DDR5 RAM, and you’ve got a great foundation for all your favourite games.

Plus, like all Refract Gaming PCs, the Celeste comes with three years parts and labour warranty and is eligible for next-day delivery.

Gigabyte M27U 160Hz Gaming Monitor (M27Q-X-EK)

What’s the point in beautiful graphics if your monitor is not up to code? Now you might be humming and hawing about 2K or 4K screens, or even wondering what the best type is for you! Either way, you’re going to need a screen that does the vibrant world of DokeV justice. That’s where the Gigabyte M27U gaming monitor comes in.

Its high refresh rate of 160Hz will keep all your fast-paced gaming action looking smooth whilst the super wide colour gamut accurately displays colour. Plus, as an IPS panel gameplay will look amazing from any angle.

Glorious Model O Pink Gaming Mouse (GLO-MS-O-P-FORGE)

Glorious Model O Pink Gaming Mouse (GLO-MS-O-P-FORGE)

Now for a splash of colour! The Glorious Model O matte pink gaming mouse is absolutely stunning and definitely matches the K-pop vibes DokeV has. With an adjustable DPI up to 12,000 and 250 IPS tracking speed, you can set this mouse to the perfect sensitivity for navigating the island.

There are even on-the-fly adjustments you can make to the DPI, that are colour-indicated on the scroll wheel. Switch to a lower DPI when you need more control in battle, then hike it up when you’re gliding from the top of the island with your umbrella.

Ducky One 3 Matcha Full Size Keyboard (DKON2108-RUKPDMAEGGC1)

Last, but not least, we have the Ducky One 3 Matcha keyboard. This full-size model utilises Cherry MX Speed Silver switches, to help you keep up with the fast-paced battles. However, the whole Ducky One 3 range is equipped with hot swapping technology, meaning you can pick and choose between switch types as you would with your Dokebi team for each fight.

Customise this mechanical keyboard to suit your gameplay style. What’s more, the Matcha design is gorgeous and another colourful addition to match those DokeV vibes.
