Get ready to battle it out and flawlessly defeat your opponents in this nostalgia-fuelled clash against up to three players online or locally. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is a 2D fighter beat ‘em up that you won’t want to miss.

Gameplay

Like most brawling games, there are light, strong, special attacks, and grabs, all of which can be used in different directions to change the attack. On top of this, you have a shield, dashes, and powered-up attacks to help evade or finish a fight.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 offers a campaign mode where you play as SpongeBob, trying to save Patrick from an unknown entity that has taken him. Along the way, you battle enemies, gain power-ups, and overcome boss battles to save your best friend and maybe even the rest of the universe.

The campaign power-ups range from extra shots to shooting random projectiles at your opponents or buffing certain skills, such as projectile damage. These offer a helping hand and a good form of progression in a genre where gameplay is purely a test of skill.

Once you’ve beaten the campaign and honed your skills enough, you may want to test your abilities against other players. You can do this either locally against friends or online in both casual and ranked games. I do admit I’m nowhere near good enough to even want to get demolished in a ranked match.

Art & Characters

The game has beautifully crafted environments that pay great tribute to the cartoons they come from. The stages are simple enough to navigate, even if you are new to fighting games. However, they still offer plenty of space to show off your movement skills and provide a challenge for more advanced players.

The characters each have a diverse skill set, with each having some projectile abilities to cut the distance once you’ve thrown your opponent far enough away, or just dash into them and deal even more damage and combo them.

All-Star Brawl Two’s character’s moves all have a unique feel to them, with references to familiar episodes from your favourite Nickelodeon shows.

Following on from the first game, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 also adds to the roster in both the characters and maps for you to brawl on. All in all, this is a great platform brawler with skill expression and charm that will teach you the basics or offer competitive multiplayer for more skilled players.
