Survive to Five Stream Team

After such a successful first year, Save the Children’s Survive to Five streaming event is back! Last year, 22 streamers over the course of 5 days had the goal to raise $25,000. They absolutely smashed that, raising over three times the goal money. $87,000! This helped give over 150,000 children across the world a better chance of seeing their fifth birthday. Can they do it again this year?

What is Survive to Five?

Survive to Five is a streaming event run by the charity Save the Children. The goal is to raise money for children across the world, to help them see their fifth birthday. Why? Because Save the Children believe that no child should die from preventable and treatable causes. Quite frankly, so do we and the streamers taking part.

With all that is going on in the world right now, food supply chains and the ability to even access areas have been severely interrupted. It’s estimated that there are now 272 million people at risk of starvation. This is why the focus of this year’s event is hunger. The money raised in this event will go towards fighting malnutrition, funding and training frontline health workers, cleaning water supplies, and protecting newborns.

Why This is So Important

Access to food, clean water, and healthcare is something we can all take for granted. But across the world, malnutrition is the underlying cause of death for 3.1 million children. Lack of nutrition can also have lasting effects on a child’s development and brain. By providing support for families caught in droughts and crop failure, or those already suffering, STC can treat and even prevent acute malnutrition.

Better equipping the frontline health workers means that more people have access to preventative and curative care. The three major killers of children under five are pneumonia, diarrhoea, and malaria; all very treatable with the right supplies. Additionally, having clean water and proper sanitation helps prevent the need for medical care, as one-third of child deaths from disease are related to poor water, hygiene, and sanitation.

Having clean water, proper hygiene, and adequate sanitation reduces the spread of disease and the risk of children contracting worms. Plus, by having better access to clean water, children can spend their days in school rather than taking the several-mile journey to fetch water.

The first month of a child’s life is when they are at the highest risk, equally so for the mother too. In fact, globally 2.5 million newborns die, a further 2.6 million are stillborn, and 303,000 women die because of childbirth or pregnancy. Even with basic, low-cost health care, up to two-thirds of newborn lives can be saved.

Survive to Five 2022

Over the course of five days, they have tasked sixteen streamers to raise $25,000. This will help 50,000 kids have a better chance of reaching their 5th birthday.

A few streamers have returned for a second year, like Wyvern and Michi, and there are plenty of new faces. With sixteen participants, there’s sure to be some content out there for you to enjoy. All of the live streams can be found through Tiltify.

What Went Down

With so many streamers having taken part, we cannot possible cover everything that happened over the five days. Instead, we’re bringing you some great highlights across a wide selection of the content available.

Speedruns and Cellos

First up, SpeedDocs paired fundraising with speed runs and their launch party. A group effort, their streams were hosted by a number of gamers, each playing a variety of titles. From Spyro Reignited Trilogy to Donkey Kong Country 3, they show you how to expertly zoom your way through these games.

Back for a second year, Michi set the goal of raising $5,000 and got a fifth of the way there on her first stream alone. She took on Elden Ring whilst encouraging her community to donate. In addition to this, she hosted several art streams, working on an amazing wolf painting from the comfort of her noblechairs EPIC.

Something a little different, ZanB, under the name Survive_To_Five_CelloGods, streamed cello performances. Soulful and soothing, he also had suggested donation amounts where he would do squats or play a request.

RPGs and ASMR

From the Realm of Insani-tea, kayPOWXD delighted with her special brand of madness. Her chair-i-tea stream was spent crawling dungeons in preparation for The Elder Scrolls Online: Set Sail for High Isle. Donations affected her team’s equipment, being able to steal certain players’ gear to make the dungeon even harder. Her initial goal of $500 was exceeded before the first stream even finished.

Also back for another year, RubyTrue stepped up to the webcam for a calming ASMR stream. Donations could be used to vote for a special stream, with an outdoor sound bath winning by a landslide! Over the course of four hours, RubyTrue treated us to chill vibes, a Steam marble race, and her reactions to super sour sweets. The True Crew raised over $2,000, qualifying her for a chair giveaway!

More gaming fun, jellyzaur did three streams for Save the Children, raising over $1,000. She also took on Elden Ring in the name of raising money. Prior to one stream, she held a poll to vote for the character to make for that session and then let chat dictate how she played. Naturally, chaos ensued!

Of course, plenty more went down and you can see the fill list of streamers here. What were your highlights from the event? Drop a comment below!

Final Tally

At the end of it all, an amazing $24,142.26 was raised*! This will certainly help 50,000 children across the world to see their fifth birthdays. Here at Overclockers UK, we want to thank and congratulate the streamers on their stellar effort and commitment to Survive to 5. It’s been a blast watching what they all got up to – made all the better knowing that the money is going towards a really good cause.

Save the Children will be back in December with another gaming charity event.
