Using dollars to try and avoid the effect of exchange rates, the 1080Ti FE launched at $699. Adjusted for inflation that would be $742 today.

The 3070 FE launched at $499. It definitely is not priced like a flagship card.

Maybe I've been brainwashed by Nvidia, but the £519 I paid for mine seems relatively good value for performance that would have cost £1200 only four months ago.
Yeah the 3070 I got for £546 was a good price £77 above FE is about right. In Timespy it beats my 2080ti I had by 1000 points.
You completely missed the point and it shows to me that Nvidia's marketing has successfully gotten to you. What you call mid tier once was what a flagship would cost and we don't even have to go back more than 2 gens. Anyway, I think I can say with almost 100% certainty that it's a moot point to discuss as Nvidia can clearly do no wrong here and the market has already accepted this new pricing structure.

@Phixsator was saying the 70 used to be relatively cheap, now it's brutally expensive to the point it's round about the same as what the 1080ti cost.

Bought my 970 for £213 sold 2 free games for £30=£183 outlay, my 3070 cost £519 with a subliminal message of 'be thankful you got one', it's £600 now!:p

Damn, some people got their choices for Christmas. I still wait for my PNY. For 2 months there was no update on any stock from them. I wonder what's up. Is PNY a small fry and is not getting their chips from NVIDIA? I am second guessing my choice now, if i went for Gigabyte or ASUS maybe I would get my card sooner.:(

@tommybhoy Read the op which you did not quote.

I got your point but what you and others have missed is the original comment was nothing to do with cost. Cost was not even mentioned if you read back. I will say it one last time in response to it 'doesn't feel like flagship performance' the 3070 Is not a flagship card so you would not expect flagship performance regardless of cost.

Final word from me move on.

Just installed my 3070 FE and noticed that idling in Windows it's at 1725 mhz GPU and 1750 mhz mem. Also have a slight burning small from the case.. assume it's the GPU as it was fine before!

Anyone else have the clocks issue?

Thanks

Please tell me why you guys have opted for the 3070 and not gone for a 3080, just price?
I was all pumped for Cyberpunk RTX but due to issues and slight let down with the sandbox world decided to get the 'easier to find' 3070 FE. I really like the 3080, you pay more and get more, pretty good deal, but at the moment they are hens teeth. I will be interested in the 3080 Ti price/performance/availability, but I think I'll just wait for the next (next:)) gen GPUs.

I'm just undervolt testing the 3070 FE I've got a stable 1900MHz @ 0.9v 44% fan; Control 68C, Superposition benchmark 86C/throttles.. so I guess just don't run a stress test and all good? ;) Gonna slow the fan down some more.

Yeah, was as much as I'm prepared to pay this time.

Snagged one of them today, how is it running? Anything worth looking out for? Hoping to put a waterblock on it at some point, if one becomes available.
So far ... seems good. Running 1440p BFV and it's really smooth. Haven't checked temps really, but I've got to say it's a lot quieter than my old EVGA 1080. It's a bleeding huge card though, not surprised there's an anti-sag support in the box. Mouse mat was a nice extra too.

More about availability for me. Wanted a decent upgrade on my Vega 64. Bought a load of games around Black Friday and no chance of getting a 3080 or 6800xt before Xmas and probably well beyond. Managed to snag a 3070 thinking I can always sell it on and get something else later. I'm so impressed that I'll probably stick with it now though.
