This Earth Day, we’ve decided to celebrate some of the very best Earth-friendly tech that’s currently being developed.

All of this eco-friendly hardware and technology has been designed to reduce the strain on precious resources, prioritise recycling, and protect the Earth’s natural environment.

Microsoft Ocean Plastic Mouse:

Microsoft has made huge strides in sustainability and eco-friendly tech through its Ocean Plastic Mouse. This mouse has been built from 20% of recycled ocean plastic, which has been cleaned before being processed into recyclable plastic resin pellets.

This eco-friendly mouse is completely wireless via reliable Bluetooth connectivity and requires a single AA battery. The battery life lasts up to 12 months.

What’s more, to reduce the amount of waste old technology and hardware can create, you can recycle our old Microsoft mouse through their free mail-in service

Data Server Heated Swimming Pools

In the UK at the Exmouth Leisure Centre, a public swimming pool is being heated by a small data centre.

The computers inside the data centre are surrounded by hot oil. This oil is then pumped into a heat exchange to keep the pool toasty at a comfortable 30° for about 60% of the time.

This has saved the Leisure Centre thousands of pounds, especially at a time of skyrocketing energy prices. The start-up behind the technology, Deep Green, charges its clients to use the data centre but refunds the electricity costs required to run the hardware.

Solar-Powered Tech

In case you didn’t know, there are several different solar-powered PC peripherals available. Including the Logitech K750 Wireless Solar Keyboard

This full-sized keyboard has been designed to streamline your productivity whilst boasting earth-friendly technology.

Completely wireless, this keyboard automatically charges itself whenever there is light and stays charged for up to three months in darkness. You won’t need to worry about wires cluttering up your desk space or running out of battery. Plus, thanks to its ultra-thin design and small form factor, this keyboard won’t take up precious desk space, whilst being easy to take with you for on-the-go work or gaming.

Gigabyte’s Sustainable Server

PC hardware manufacturer Gigabyte has created its very own sustainable data server. By utilising either air, liquid, or immersion cooling, these eco-friendly servers have been designed to keep your business running, all whilst reducing the dampening effect on the environment and hefty energy bills.

3D Printed Batteries

Standard Lithium batteries are used in everything. From cars, phones, and even energy storage. However, these batteries aren’t Earth-friendly and tend to come with a lot of complications or safety risks.

Therefore, in an attempt to move away from Lithium batteries, 3D printing, or additive manufacturing, is being used to create batteries. These new 3D printed batteries not only won’t come with a big list of safety risks, but will also deliver faster charging, better energy efficiency, and be cheaper to produce.
