Hark and listen carefully, brave adventurers! Here be dragons – scaled demons that rule far away kingdoms from the sky and unleash terror on the lands below. The poor folk of these forsaken lands have but one hope – you! Yes, in honour of Saint George’s Day we charge you, with brave steel in hand, to make haste to one of these virtual worlds cursed by dragons. Fight the fire-breathing menace, be the hero, and don’t forget to loot their piles of gold.

Alduin and Friends – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

After a decade we still cannot get enough of Fus-Roh-Dah-ing the World Eater and his winged followers out of the sky, omnomnoming on their souls, and pilfering their bodies to craft armour. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim features a plethora of dragons to battle. They serve as a major component of gameplay, and as part of your character’s destiny as the Last Dragonborn. You can find them as major bosses throughout the story and in side quests. They also spawn randomly as you explore Skyrim’s breathtaking wilderness, often with little warning.

Taking them down is a practiced art. They’ll circle around from above before swooping at you. Get them to land and hack away while enduring their fiery and frosty breath attacks. It’s just getting them to the ground that can prove tricky. Make sure you pack plenty of arrows – you’ve got scaly knees to shoot for.

Elder Dragons – Monster Hunter Rise

With a cornucopia of monsters in Monster Hunter Rise, it’s hardly surprising you can count dragons among their number. Elder Dragons are a series staple that, while not in the game for its release on Nintendo Switch, were added in with the 2.0 update and available from launch for PC players.

Elder Dragons appear in different ways throughout the game. Some are bosses for the story. Others can be found in Hunts you choose to take on. A few can even appear during Rampage Mode, letting you truly live out your knightly fantasies by defending Kamura Village from the beasts! That was all before the Sunbreak expansion added even more dragons for you to hunt.

Hunt Dragon Hearts – Elden Ring

If you don’t want your Saint George’s Day to be Maidenless, then be sure to head to the Lands Between. In all honesty, we won’t be surprised if you haven’t left since FromSoftware’s smash-hit first took over all our lives in February. Among the many bosses out to ruin your day are more than a few dragons. Slaying one of these can reward you with Dragon Hearts

You can trade this consumable at the Church of Dragon Communion for some dragon-based Incantations. These are the perfect way to flip the script and become the dragon terror instead! Terrorise other Tarnished in Invasions as a dragon-powered engine of destruction.

If you are one of the poor souls still in the dark about Elden Ring, you can learn all about it on our blog including the things you really need to play it.

Return of the Dragons! – World of Warcraft Dragonflight

Focusing on the return of the Dragon Aspects after their disappearance during the Cataclysm expansion, Dragonflight sends World of Warcraft players to the ancient and mysterious Dragon Isles. This lush, primordial setting is not the only thing here that’s dragon-themed though.

As well as a new race/class combo called Dracthyr Evokers, a race of draconic humanoids, players get their own dragon mounts. These can be fully customised and used in the new dragon riding activity.  Best of all, flying is available from the start of the expansion, so you don’t need to grind your level to enjoy this feature!

Free the Dragons – God of War

Maybe you actually feel dragons get something of a bad rep in gaming. If that’s the case, then journey into God of War to do them a solid. Kratos and Artreus encounter a myriad of creatures straight out of Norse mythology on the journey, from Valkyries to the World Serpent. But would it even be fantasy if there weren’t a few dragons along the way?

These particular dragons can be found chained up across Midgard. Your goal is to free them for their favour, but they’re in an understandably foul mood. Dodge their deadly attacks as you destroy the magical shrines binding them. Of course, if you don’t want to be benevolent to the dragons then there is still that scourge of the sky Hræzlyr to whelp in the story. Baldur also uses one as his ride which is ripe for a beating.

If you wanted to learn more about Kratos’s PC debut, be sure to check out our blog for all the details.

Dragons if you Squint – Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The intelligence of dragons found on the Continent, like Villentretenmerth, means Witchers generally won’t kill them. Draconids are another matter though! Often mistaken for dragons by the uneducated peasants of the Northern Realms, these winged beasts are perfectly primed for Geralt to accept a fat contract on.

Forktails, wyverns, cockatrices, and basiliks make up the budget dragons Geralt might have to slay, either for coin or to clear a map marker. Rather than flames, these creatures prefer to spew venom. Brew some potions and load your crossbow, because even the serene duchy of Touissant suffers a blight of these creatures. Mind you, saving a fairy-tale kingdom from a dragon scourge is certainly the knightliest thing you can do for Saint George’s Day
