Since it was first aired in 1999, Spongebob Squarepants has had a massive effect on popular culture. In the show’s twenty-year tenure, it has spawned multiple games, three films, countless memes, and more merch than you can shake a Krabby Patty at. Even after its creator Stephen Hillenburg’s passing, we can’t seem to get enough of the yellow, giggling sponge. Now, he has joined the Minecraft universe. That’s right, Bikini Bottom has come to Minecraft.

Is This The Krusty Krab? No, It’s Patrick!
The Spongebob DLC transports you to Bikini Bottom, in an underwater astronaut suit just like Sandy’s. Your avatar is an air-breather after all. Designed by Spark Universe in conjunction with Nickelodeon, this DLC went live on July 26th 2022 and was the latest in many collabs of this sort.
Many iconic locations from Bikini Bottom have been recreated in classic Minecraft style for you to explore. Chill in Spongebob’s pineapple house, enjoy a Krabby Patty at the Krusty Krab, or spend the day at Goo Lagoon. Just be careful not to rip your pants!
In addition to immersing yourself into Bikini Bottom, there are many familiar faces to be seen across the town. Naturally, this includes characters like Spongebob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, and Squidward, but we also get to see many of the extended cast like Mrs. Puff, Mermaid Man, and Barnacle Boy.
For fans of the show, this is a nostalgia trip definitely worth going on!
Best Day Ever
The main bulk of the gameplay follows your avatar and Spongebob across Bikini Bottom trying to help everyone have the best day ever. (I don’t have that song in my head, you do!) Quests range from puzzles to races and building challenges in various iconic locations from the show. There are even plenty of mini-games to enjoy along the way.
What’s more, there are 40 new skins for your avatar, meaning you can even play as your favourite Bikini Bottomite.
They weren’t kidding when they said it’d be the best day ever.
We’re All Goofy Goobers
In honour of the new Spongebob DLC, Minecraft challenged its community to create a Spongebob-themed build. The community did not disappoint! You can see the featured builds here, but my personal fave is the glam-rock Goofy Goober Spongebob from the end of the first film.

The Spongebob Squarepants DLC is available in the Minecraft Marketplace across all platforms, either for 1340 Minecraft coins or £6.99. You need the latest version of Minecraft: Bedrock Edition to play it. (Fun fact: Bedrock Edition supports crossplay!) Here are the official specifications:
