The Best FPS Games to Play with Friends this Weekend

The weekend has graced us with its presence once more, and it’s time to gather the squad. This time, we’re talking the best multiplayer FPS games. 

First-person shooters cover a wide range of genres, as they are grouped by a game mechanic rather than by themes and style. Plenty of the games we’ve already covered in this series are FPS, so it seemed only right that we did a dedicated post just for them. All you have to do is sync calendars with your mates and make sure your gaming set-up is ready for some multiplayer fun.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is possibly one of the best-known FPS games available to play today. It’s a massive esports title, even played by our friends at Endpoint! This is an objective-based game, pitting two teams against each other. Play as either the Terrorists or Counter-Terrorists, and choose from one of the nine game modes, each with their own distinctive characteristics. What’s more, there are extensive maps to explore and five categories of weapons to master. 

Each mode employs different mechanics and multiplayer group sizes. Pair up with your bestie for Wingman’s 2-v-2 bomb defusal game, or team up with four of your mates in the traditional Competitive mode. You have a whole weekend’s worth of gaming with these modes alone – let alone the community-made mods!

Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 is the third instalment of the original looter-shooter series, chock-full of crazy weaponry, explosive gameplay, and colour. You play as one of the four Vault Hunters, each with their own comprehensive skill trees and fighting styles, plus plenty of customisation options to boot. The aim of the game? Score as much loot as you can! Oh, and save the galaxy from the Calypso Twins and their fearsome cult. 

Borderlands 3 can be played solo or co-op. You can play with anyone, at any time via online co-op, regardless of where you’re at with the mission or your level. Perfect for a little bit of weekend gaming with the gang.

Ghosts of Tabor 

Now something for the VR gamers among us. Ghosts of Tabor launched into early access recently to a very warm welcome. This is the first VR-only FPS survival game, taking inspiration from DayZ and Escape From Tarkov. This game is more than just running around and shooting your fellow players, you need to keep an eye on your health, hunger, and thirst – or they might just get you first! Be sure to stock up on supplies as well as weapons and items for crafting. 

In teams of up to four, eight to twenty players are dropped in a one-hour raid (depending on map size). In this time, you and the squad will face other players, competitive AI, and difficult-to-defeat bosses that drop elite-tier loot.
